New saying to replace " There are no atheists in foxholes." How about "There are no Christians in courtrooms." Sinclair Lewis-1935-"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."
Check the facts, Liberty's law school is a joke.Conservative indoctrination and Christian dogma. Tell me out there in youtube land if you were on trial for murder would you rather have an ill-prepared, under-educated, white-bread Christian lawyer from LU who spent their time trying to figure out how to get prayer back in our schools or a sharp, street-wise, hard ass, Jewish Lawyer from NYU well-versed in constitutional law? If you choose the former you're an idiot.
Hey, doesn't Liberty U. offer a Teabagging degree. Misspelled sign making 101, Graphic Design-specializing in racist images of Obama 101, Fox News watching 101.
12000 residential students, 50000+ online students (online ranked as one of the top 3 online schools in the country), highest accreditation level there is, law school bar pass rating surpassing most law schools, 20+ division 1 NCAA athletics, 60+ majors and all done in less than 40 years. but wait.....Liberty is not a legit school.
I was looking at their Liberty U's website out of pure curiosity and found it incredible (being a German major) that German isn't offered. Considering the German language's importance with Martin Luther's translation of the Bible into German so the common man could understand it, the fact that it's not offered astounds me. In fact, the only languages offered are Spanish, English and French (but French you can only minor in).
Well at least you are willing to admit a fair exception. I will give you credit for that. Just always keep in mind that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Colleges are like artwork or music, what some consider a masterpiece may look or sound like "shit" to others as you would say. It's real easy to develop elitist and pretentious attitudes about higher education but at the end of the day it's what the individual student takes away that matters.
The reason it's a fair exception is that there are empirical measures to judge the quality of a school. By my, and most others' standards, Biblical education is a waste of time when there are legitimate fields to learn about.
That would assume that all kids do at Christian affiliated schools is learn about the Bible which is obviously untrue... Liberty's Pre-Med major requires 19 credits of "Biblical education" as you would say but the majority of credits (52) are in the hard sciences. Liberty is a level 6 accredited school and you don't get that by only teaching the Bible. Think of it as a place where the Biblical aspect compliments the "regular" learning, not the other way around.
How exactly does Biblical education compliment real learning? The biblical aspect is wrong and obsolete. Those credits would be better spent on just about ANY other topic. I'm not saying the Bible has no place in Academics, fictional literature is great. I just have a bias toward practical education. Teach people to build and create real things that help mankind. At worst, Biblical scholarship only feeds the dishonest monster that is the religious establishment.
And true Biblical Christianity does not help mankind? Do you know how many mission trips are being planned to Haiti right now? How about Habitat for Humanity? Ever heard of the Salvation Army? Ever heard the greatest commandment? There are two - Love God with all your heart and Love your neighbor as you would yourself.
Ever heard the story of the good Samaritan?
What if the entire world thought more like him? You would be a fool to think the would would not be a better place.
Read the story of the Good Samaritan...That is the essence of Christianity. Be kind, love others, etc. How is that not good for mankind? How is that not good for humanity? Education is so much more than books, one must educate the soul as well. What good are smart people that lie, cheat, steal?
Do a study on Bernie Madoff and S. Truett Cathy, see what you come up with.
I'll take my chances with a man ground in the faith any day of the week.
First, I don't need some Bible tales to tell me to be good to one another and neither do you.
Second, wtf? Educate the soul? It is the brain that does all the data processing & decision making. Your jesus language makes no sense.
Third, don't act like Christianity has a monopoly on charity. I've read several articles on 3 secular organizations that are raising money & sending aid to Haiti as well.
Finally, religion is inherently dishonest because it tells you that you know when you don't.
Founded by a Reverend...THE national CATHOLIC University in the United States...has a THEOLOGY school...
Ranked 20th in the country nationally by US News and World Report, ahead of the schools you mention and topped only by Cal Tech and Stanford.
By your logic because Notre Dame is a religious school it can't be held on the same academic level as a "superior" public school. Laughable. The school is only 40 years old, give it time!
spikesmth. I go to Liberty University. It is a Christian University and as a Christian, no matter what I do, my relationship with Christ is going to influence my life, in every part of my life. So the emphasis makes sense. But as far as thinking that this emphasis is wrong is indeed wrong. In public school other schools of thought are emphasized and its perfectly alright. No one cares. So watch using a distinguishing factor in one and ignore it in the other.
I'm sorry but your school sucks. It is the definition of indoctrination that you Christians always deny and accuse secular education to be about. Jesus has no place in academics except for historical. I don't want Jesus-faced lawyers, judges or juries in my judicial system because they think their fictional delusions are more important than critical examination of reality. Maybe you're "one of the good ones" but you're just providing cover for the nutters.
I don't see how religious affiliation causes "fictional delusions" in a judicial court of law. the only thing that would be affected would be the jurors set of morals or the judges. Please elaborate. I am merely asking what you mean by this.
Cal Poly may be a good school, too bad they couldn't teach you to talk like an educated professional. At the least the Christian schools you denounce would have washed your mouth out with soap long ago.
Dude, here's the thing: SFSU and CALPOLY are both over 100 years old. Liberty is less than 40. The law school is less than 10. Give them a break. I'm sure SFSU and CALPOLY weren't as big of a deal when they were in their forties. As far as the School of Religion - it is a self-proclaiming Christian school. What do you expect? By the way, you never mentioned the other 60 legitimate majors Liberty offers. That's 60 majors in less than 40 years. That's tremendous by any standard
hey spike. I'm an LU student. I'm also in the minority by being a raging liberal and I walk the line between agnostic and christian. Despite all it's bad press it's really not too bad of a school. I'm getting a psychology degree and very little of what I've been taught has been influenced by their spiritual views.
"If you don't let my defendant go, a plague of locusts will swarm all over your crops; and thy countenance will be lowered by a rain of frogs from the heavens!"
Yeah Weird Al rulz..But Chuck is a deuche-fag, i used to see him at bars and stuff surrounded by a harem of underaged girls... some kind of husband :-)
Yeah, the audio is a bit messed, but got the jist of the message :) I agree it's not a true university. Doesn't Liberty University also have a program only open to women that gives an actual degree in the proper running of a godly home? I know they call it home economics, but again, it's only open to women and it teaches as if they all need to be like June Cleaver. I'll have to look this one up myself...

@Justin235 No it is not legit. It's a Jesus school. There is no legitimacy in teaching religion other than for anthropological reasons.

Here is a Liberty U supporter here on YT a while back when we 'debated' the Creation Museum in Kentucky;
"A university that allows the belief of coexisting humans and dinosaurs is a university that upholds academic freedom."
Pretty stupid philosophy in anyone's book.

Go check out the Liberty U course catalog for Biology. Here is what they say;
"There is a strong emphasis on God as the Creator of our world."
Sure, real good school, maybe for religious studies. That's like going to Disney U to study Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbell, Goofey, etc.
