@ slouttop That is exactly why I'm learning Krav Jiu Jitsu with a little bit of kick boxing. Krav Maga is more relevant in a stand up street fight because it's based on realistic scenarios focusing on personal protection. GJJ compliments Krav and KB in that it makes you a complete all around fighter. Yes, most fights end up on the ground. That's why the Modern Army Combatives Program is based on BJJ.
PLEASE Tell me people...does BJJ ever stand up and fight?.
What is this thing about going to the floor? DO NOT TELL ME THAT FIGHTS END UP ON THE FLOOR BECAUSE YOU ARE SAYING BJJ IS VERY WEAK AGAINT TWO OR MORE ATTACKERS. WHAT WOULD GRACIES DO AGAINTS TWO ATTACKERS ON THE FLOOR? YES YOU GUEST IT F. U. G. ( F....UP GRACIES)

@Thewiseguitar Keep posting. It obviously makes you feel better about yourself, but understand this. True martial arts are about real life survival and internal spirit. You simply cannot grasp that and I hope one day you will.
@aibuwarrior Hey comeon now how can you call BJJ a fake martial art when it came to the scene in America and made a mockery of all other martial arts. People that get into street fights aren't martial artists of any kind you saying the technicality of the ground fighting system of BJJ would not defend you against some bum street fighter is total idiocy. Ego is a fighters weakness but being humble isn't a strength necessarily.
@jagexisthedevil I don't recall calling BJJ fake. I don't recall saying BJJ techniques wouldn't provide a defense against a street bum. I really don't think you are quoting me. "being humble isn't a strength"??????? Are you sure about that????
Put credit where it is due. Kosen Judo = Origin of BJJ. Rickson said in his book that the japanese held back on teaching and taught only the basics because they were non-japanese and thus had to learn and evolve the art on their own. Helio did improve it, But he did not invent it. ALL of it is still from Kosen Judo.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu comes from Judo. Mitsuyo Maeda tought it to Heilo and Carlos Gracie. Jiu-Jitsu in this spelling shares the same charaters as Judo.
same characters? if it had the same characters it would say judo not jiu-jitsu. in Renzo's book he even admits this is the incorrect 'spelling' of it, but they kept it to differentiate it from jujitsu and jujutsu (more accurate)
Your mostly correct. The only thing is that Maeda taught Carlos not Helio. Helio and the other brothers learned it from Carlos, but everything else you've written is correct.
They copied Judo? Your fucking stupid. So Sambo must have copied Judo too right. Judo must have copied Jujutsu. An Jujutsu copied from Shuai Jiao. And so on. Read a book you stupid fuck! The Gracies have changed Judo for the better. Judo is too constrictive with 35 illegal grips with only like 5 seconds on the match to submit or you stood up. Its worst then Boxing in terms of rules.
they did copy judo. so did sambo. and there is no evidence that jujutsu copied shuai jiao. i agree they took ne waza to a whole new level as far as the 'ju' arts are concerned.
You obviously dont know shit about jiu jitsu. To copy would actually mean that they tried to do something similar and say its theirs, no jiu jitsu comes move for move from Kodokan judo. there are books from the late 1800's that contain every BJJ move there is practically. Why dont you learn some history. and on top of that the only real difference in judo and jiu jitsu is the scoring rules, i only train jiu jitsu , but oddly enough i compete and am successful in both.
What do they call this technique, move? I am beginner. In Robert Drysdale Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, I am getting bjj training under Robert Drysdale.
Its called Kimura.. The kimura lock was named after the judoka Masahiko Kimura, who used it to defeat one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Hélio Gracie.
It's called Gyaku Ude-Garame in Judo or more generally called a reverse Key Lock
Break his arm when you feel his mouth over your ballsack, he'll let go. lol. That and you're pinning his torso to the ground because you're controlling his left arm.
im not trying to be a snob and call you out but at :50 what if he tries to kick you in the head? you seem a little vunerable (once again i am not trying to say you dont know what your doing)
I half to say that BJJ helped me more as a bouncer than anything else I have trained. Because of the success I saw of others with BJJ I started training Gracie Jiu Jitsu 6 years ago. I absolutely love BJJ and if you believe that it is useless in a fight I would refer you to any practitioner that is at a reputable school. Gracies teach control and eliminating space in a fight. If you cannot reach my face you cannot scratch it. And we do train for people trying to eye gouge or hit below the belt.
Fighting is chaotic at best...I subscribe to the Bruce Lee philosophy that no one style has all the answers but that all styles have value. BJJ then is a piece of the puzzle, as is wrestling, boxing, muay thai and judo. It's never been which style is best but about sensing an opponent's weakness and flowing there like water. Watch Georges St. Pierre fight and you'll see what I'm talking about.
actually krav maga has alot of the answers to fighting because its changes whenever a technique(s) becomes insefishant and has almost every style of martial arts in it like jujutsu, muay thai, judo, boxing, ect. But i got to agree on GSP hes hella badass
That's my point though, it takes the valuable points from many arts...very similar to how Bruce Lee created Jeet Kune Do (which arguably has a lot of the answers as well). By doing so it allows the style to flow to an opponent's weakness while not giving up weak areas in your own style.
yeah exactly... say ur alot smaller than a guy comin at u and he's easily big enough to tackle you, u can land in position with ur legs around his waist and work him from the bottom. cuz mostly all they're gonna kno is tackle n start swingin
I totally disagree that BJJ is useless in a streetfight. I've had several instances where it worked beautifully. What most don't realize is being trained to groundfight makes you best qualified to keep the fight standing if that's what you choose. Combine BJJ with muay thai and you're the wrong person to mess with on the street.
All martail arts are good, from Judo to Kempo to BBJ to Krav Maga, Aikido Ect. The thing is to have fun with ur sport. To learn and grow as a person. Trust me, any one of these will do fine In any situation if well applyed.
I would agree it is limited agaisnt 2 attackers. But to say it's useless ? It did beat every fighter in the first UFC . All their kicks and punches did nothing . They were all submitted .
BJJ is a martial art and combat sport..its definatly applicable in a real situation..explain to me why the navy seals HAVE to train in BJJ? Plain and simple its effective so i dont know why your bashing BJJ, maybe a BJJ guy beat the shit out of u? and BJJ stands for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu not sport ground judo..any white belt trained in BJJ would take you out in seconds.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Bjj is: - useless against 2 or more opponent - useless against weapon - useless in a crowded place - useless in a small space - useless without rules - it don't teach to strike, to hit - it don't teach stand up grappling - useless on a dangerous or real floor - let vital point without protection (see up when i say about rules) - Ordinary police and the most part of special corps ignore it
Tournament style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is useless in most of the situations that you mentioned. I agree. However, most of the people who I train with have cross-trained in other martial arts. Believe me, we know. In what style do you train?
No Martial Art can guarantee to protect you against ultiple attackers or weapons. If they say so, they're lying. Buy a firearm. BJJ does each stndup grappling. Most places mix in Judo and wrestling. Mine does. It's worked for me in a small bar. Strikes are covered depending on the school. Again mine does. Rear Naked Choke worked perfctly. And no the Army's H2H comatives program uses a lot (2/3rds) of BJJ tchniques. Have you trained before???
you show me a martial art that is good against 2 or more people...gracie jiu jitsu the self defence aspect shows u how to defend against weapons, is useful in a small place, u dont need to strike to be effective, and watch the first 4 ufcs...and ALL of the navy seals use gracie jiu jitsu..so get your facts straight and stop bashing BJJ,
Most of you people are stupid as dirt. I respect every art there is something useful in every art. But I am willing to bet only a handful of you train in anything, the rest of you are on a computer talking shit about something you know nothing about.
all this talk about grabbing balls has me nervous. if I went to any academy and the first thing they tried to teach me was how to grab balls I would definitely leave and go back to training BJJ where I dont have to worry about ball grabbers.
street effective. u dont know what your talking about. even if your really are a black belt in japanese jujitsu, any gracie jiu jitsu blackbelt will own you. gjj is more about technique where as japanese jujitsu has more to do with strength.
........... in a fight between a japanese jiu jitsu and bjj no one would know who would win unless they fought, and im guessing you dont know about the fight helio gracie(inventer of gracie jiu jitsu and bjj) and kato (japanese jiu jitsu) had.... kato won from my memory,\
no martial art is better only better fighters dont say who would win in a fight no one would know unless they fought
YOU SEE RENZO EXPLAINING THIS TECHNIQUE? TAKES HIM 2 MINUTES TO EXPLAIN IT. iN A REAL SITUATION HE WOULD DO THIS TO YOU IN A SPLIT SECOND. yOU WOULDNT BE ABLE TO GRAB HIS BALLS. MOST OF YOU ARE FOOLS. ALL I CAN SAY IS GO TRAIN BJJ ONE NIGHT AND THEN TALK SHIT
Brazilian Jiu jitsu is only be in fashion. Ground fighting can be usefull only in a cage, never in a street fighting. I'm sorry if this can get angry some people but for you there isn't a reason if ground fighting was ignored for century??? Is only novelty, the latest fashion....
when was it ignored? and you need to watch some royce gracie fights he fight people who can actualy fight and he beats them all just about so if it can beat a actual fighter it could beat a street fighter
I was addressing someone who said that BJJ was pointless on the street as you should never go to ground. My point is that whether or not you want it, that's where the majority of fights end up.
I think that a martial artist does himself a disservice by assuming anything. Learn all you can and stay out of dangerous places. I think it is funny that people would train to be in a street fight. I train to not be in a street fight.
I agree to, best way to stay out of trouble is to not put yourself in that situation, but sometimes things go down and you have to be prepared, so knowing is always best if it HAS to go down.
@aibuwarrior Its not about being able to kick asses it's about seeing yourself superior to another human being by knowing you can beat someone, then, being able to control yourself not to enter in a fight even if you know you are superior. This relation between control and superiority makes you feel damn proud of yourself.
By the way I speak french if my msg is not clear im sry
@Thewiseguitar You represent all that is wrong with modern martial arts. You couldn't be more wrong. Your entire comment is EGO. There is no place in real martial arts for EGO. The moment you feel superior-you lose. Feeling "Damn Proud" is the pathway to severe negativity. If you don't get past the "self", you will only learn the physicality of fighting.
@aibuwarrior dont misinterprete what I said by saying superiority I don't mean vanity. My post was about self control which refers to finding that equilibrium between your body and your mind. But the facts are the facts... practicing mma for 10 years sure makes you superior to a lot of people. As primitive beings we all had that motivation in ourselves.. but that would be another debate
@Thewiseguitar You have a lot of learning to do. You are not superior to anyone. Martial Arts should humble you and yet you use it to feed your ego. Instead of argueing with me you should study true martial arts and learn the truth.
@aibuwarrior With MMA I learned to have control of myself. I think that the ''spiritual humble truth blabla'' only comes from american movies of from other cultures you have been brainwashed by. Sure I feel proud when I do great in MMA, not hiding it makes me selfish? This is reality, not some 1990's jet lee movie. My pride has nothing to do with ego. When I win a fight, I go see the other guy and tell him what he can do to ameliorate himself against me. I think this is the true spirit
Not all, but many, ESPECIALLY if someone is much bigger and stronger than you. They grab ahold of you and try to smother you or grab you and use their weight to push you to the ground.
Also, alot times even in striking people lose their footing and end up falling. So, no, it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen A LOT. I'd say something more like 60 or 70 percent , not 100.
I was just wondering. Why do all you who call this useless come and watch this? The negative comments are from sissy's who would learn very quickly there first class, their first time rolling live. But all of a sudden on the street that would change? Oh you got a knife? HAHAHA. Or 8 to 10 of your friends will jump out? HAHAHA. Or wait your gonna punch me in the balls? HAHAHA. Or headbutt me? well ok. Being invovled in the sport of bjj doesnt make a person stupid.
I take a 150 pound weakling who has trained bjj for a year over all of you. Do you know how quick the average untrained man gets tired in a fight? Go to a bjj school for 1 year and then tell me do you think you could kick your own ass?
Why so negative towards bjj? Yes you can eye gouge, headbutt etc in a real fight. But dont you think the people who decide to go train in bjj and any other martial arts realize this? Dont you think a guy who has trained for 10 years or even one year has improved himself in every aspect(agility, quickness, responsivness, strength, awareness to name a few)?
2) to go at the ground you must pass in the strike. Everyone have seen a real fight know this. Peoples want hit you and you must know striking to defend from this. In a real fight is incredible an armlock!!!! 3) If you aren't sure that your opponent is alone... is better you don't fight. Your system is inappropriate against 2 or more opponents 4) the ground isn't a tatami or ring 5) In a crowded pub you can't fight. ... Bjj is only fashion... Like in this time the mma
first of all gemsmider, your kung fu is no good here (that has been proven time and again) All you " two or more attackers " idiots crack me up: if you can't handle ONE bjj guy, what makes you think you can handle TWO of us?and, if it comes down to it, we know how to headbutt, bite, eye gouge and all the other pussy shit your style probably teaches you in little outfits, scarves, the difference is, once we get a hold of you to do this, there is no getting away. Go to any BJJ school to find out.
1. "Passing the Strikes" is a hell of a lot easier for a grappler trained to do so, then it is for a striker
not trained against a grappler to stay standing.
2. In a "street fight" it's irrelevant. BJJ as a self defense art teaches one thing...if he's not close enough to damage you, don't get closer. Why attack?
The point of self defense is to get away unharmed, not to close the distance as quickly possible and hurt your opponent.
If your opponent is aggressively attacking BJJ says Grapple.
@gemsmider street fights usualy end up on the ground with the 2 guys still completely conscious. Knowing ur bjj makes you good for ground and pound. You take what you want from bjj.. in a street fight I won't do fancy knee locks. In a street fight I would use bjj only for controlling the opponent and getting in a good position for ground and pound. Street fights are, in essence, ground and pound
I think brazilian jiu jitsu is the most useless martial art never seen. It's fortune is mma fights, without this latest fad BJJ is a idiot system. Consider this: 1) In a real fight in the ground you have head butt, scratch (also in the eyes), bites, hits at the genitals and a lot of thing that bjj ignore.
True the Kimura Vs. Gracie match was not a good representative of a street fight at all, as the gracies brought in thick pads that let him withstand Kimura's many absolutly brutal throws. Kimura also won anyway.
The Gracie challenge proved that their opponents knew very little about fighting. You're in their school in front of 50 of their students? You fight on a giant spongee matt where you can't move and strike very well? Try all those "take downs" on the asphalt. Then for some reason these "experts"...barely try? Just eye gouge them or fight them on the street and the whole "challenge" is a different ball game.. So in this regard a real challenege would be "No Rules/ on Concrete."
Yet they still call it a victory? You would have a hard time breaking the arm of a Japanese JuJitsu Black Belt (me) since every move in BJJ has came from us (except the silly sport stuff) So you take groin shots? Impressive. I've been hit so bad it made me pale white and break out in a cold sweat and I was physically ill? But I guess you'll tell me now that you'll walk right through eye gouges too? MMA guys are pretty tough. they drop like girls from both? BTW a Kimura does not break the arm.
They never called it a victory as his corner forfeited the fight cause he was to proud to tap (a bad thing in my book for many reasons). And you are right about not striking when changing positions being a bad thing. And eye gouges are paralyzing and most BJJ instructors recognize this and try to implement tips to avoid this.
Lets just call a spade a spade, this is a cool sport, but not a street system. Anyone who moves from p[osition to position without striking is fooling themselves. At about 1:00 he post up in a 3 point stance where his groin will be struck. But these are the bad habits that carry over to the street when you train in a sport w/ rules. I love how they call it a "Kimua". That's the lock that The Judo Master Kimura broke Helio's arm with. Oh they don't mention that do they? It still beats bowling.
Can someone explain the whole BJJ thing to me? I mean, what good is a style where you can only fight one guy at a time? While you are down on the floor of the bar wrestling with some guy, trying to put some arm lock on him, his three buddies have picked up bar stools and begun smashing you on the head with them!! I can see how this could be useful inside the octagon, but any time you get into a wrestling match on the street you are very vulnerable.
Self defense BJJ does have a few standing breaks however most people focus on the competition BJJ moves. And most BJJ blue belts (Takes aprox. 2-3 years) Can put the average guy from the streets in a choke or armbar/lock in a matter of seconds making multiple oppenents possible but not efficent. Any decent BJJ school teaches its students Vale-Tudo which teaches striking, standing and on the ground.
look ground fighting is essential now, no amtter how much any fighter wants to make fun of it you need bjj, or maybe some form of wrestling. its fun to swing wild punches but you need to be able to at least get off your back.
wow can i join your school cos u sound so good..NOT!!!!!!! you friggin idiot...bet you wouldn't turn down a one to one with this legend....u knobhead lol
you always need both striking and grappeling...i love muay thai but i will absolutly learn jiu-jitsu if i wanna survive in a fight. watch any of the gracies old fights, i think the fact that a gracie won the first ufc championship ever is testimony to how effective it is as a martial art. you can make fun of it but i promise that when your choked out you will respect it.
If you talk shit about Jiu Jitsu or the Gracie's then you are a dumb fuck! I usually stick with my striking skills (muay thai) but would never doubt anyones jiu jitsu skills in a fight. Not because I'm scared of it just simply because I know it works. In MMA today Jiu Jitsu is a must know. So stop talking and start training/fighting if you want to prove something. As for the streets. Use a gun. Too many faggots try to jump people these days. I suggest a five seven! 20 in da clip!
The Gracie's are great, but not unbeatable. Look at their win loss records. Renzo is 13-6-1.
They've beaten the best an have lost to the best. Even Rickson has lost despite his claims of being undefeated. Judo stylist Ron Tripp and the late GREAT Rolls Gracie have beaten him in competition.

It's called Gyaku Ude-Garame in Judo or more generally called a reverse Key Lock

And we do train for people trying to eye gouge or hit below the belt.
taltos1336 3 years ago 2
Fighting is chaotic at best...I subscribe to the Bruce Lee philosophy that no one style has all the answers but that all styles have value. BJJ then is a piece of the puzzle, as is wrestling, boxing, muay thai and judo. It's never been which style is best but about sensing an opponent's weakness and flowing there like water. Watch Georges St. Pierre fight and you'll see what I'm talking about.
dlkenny2008 2 years ago 3
actually krav maga has alot of the answers to fighting because its changes whenever a technique(s) becomes insefishant and has almost every style of martial arts in it like jujutsu, muay thai, judo, boxing, ect. But i got to agree on GSP hes hella badass
bushido209 2 years ago
That's my point though, it takes the valuable points from many arts...very similar to how Bruce Lee created Jeet Kune Do (which arguably has a lot of the answers as well). By doing so it allows the style to flow to an opponent's weakness while not giving up weak areas in your own style.
dlkenny2008 2 years ago
yeah exactly... say ur alot smaller than a guy comin at u and he's easily big enough to tackle you, u can land in position with ur legs around his waist and work him from the bottom. cuz mostly all they're gonna kno is tackle n start swingin
guitarplayershawn 3 years ago
I totally disagree that BJJ is useless in a streetfight. I've had several instances where it worked beautifully. What most don't realize is being trained to groundfight makes you best qualified to keep the fight standing if that's what you choose. Combine BJJ with muay thai and you're the wrong person to mess with on the street.

It's about time someone brought a little common sense back to this SPORT called BJJ.
By the way; it's not jujitsu.
Because by definition jujitsu has punches, kicks, multiple attacker and weapons defense.
It's "sport ground judo" from Brazil. Period.

BJJ is a martial art and combat sport..its definatly applicable in a real situation..explain to me why the navy seals HAVE to train in BJJ? Tournament style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is useless in most of the situations that you mentioned. I agree. However, most of the people who I train with have cross-trained in other martial arts. Believe me, we know. In what style do you train?
ajgunns 3 years ago
No Martial Art can guarantee to protect you against ultiple attackers or weapons. If they say so, they're lying. Buy a firearm. BJJ does each stndup grappling. Most places mix in Judo and wrestling. Mine does. It's worked for me in a small bar. Strikes are covered depending on the school. Again mine does. Rear Naked Choke worked perfctly. And no the Army's H2H comatives program uses a lot (2/3rds) of BJJ tchniques. Have you trained before???

I agree to, best way to stay out of trouble is to not put yourself in that situation, but sometimes things go down and you have to be prepared, so knowing is always best if it HAS to go down.
tigahshark 2 years ago 6
@aibuwarrior Its not about being able to kick asses it's about seeing yourself superior to another human being by knowing you can beat someone, then, being able to control yourself not to enter in a fight even if you know you are superior. This relation between control and superiority makes you feel damn proud of yourself.
By the way I speak french if my msg is not clear im sry
Thewiseguitar 1 year ago
@Thewiseguitar You represent all that is wrong with modern martial arts. You couldn't be more wrong. Your entire comment is EGO. There is no place in real martial arts for EGO. The moment you feel superior-you lose. Feeling "Damn Proud" is the pathway to severe negativity. If you don't get past the "self", you will only learn the physicality of fighting.
aibuwarrior 1 year ago
@aibuwarrior dont misinterprete what I said by saying superiority I don't mean vanity. My post was about self control which refers to finding that equilibrium between your body and your mind. But the facts are the facts... practicing mma for 10 years sure makes you superior to a lot of people. As primitive beings we all had that motivation in ourselves.. but that would be another debate
Thewiseguitar 1 year ago
@Thewiseguitar You have a lot of learning to do. You are not superior to anyone. Martial Arts should humble you and yet you use it to feed your ego. Instead of argueing with me you should study true martial arts and learn the truth.
aibuwarrior 1 year ago
@aibuwarrior With MMA I learned to have control of myself. I think that the ''spiritual humble truth blabla'' only comes from american movies of from other cultures you have been brainwashed by. Sure I feel proud when I do great in MMA, not hiding it makes me selfish? This is reality, not some 1990's jet lee movie. My pride has nothing to do with ego. When I win a fight, I go see the other guy and tell him what he can do to ameliorate himself against me. I think this is the true spirit
Thewiseguitar 1 year ago
@aibuwarrior I couldn't agree more with you.
TheHylianSwordsman 11 months ago
Not all, but many, ESPECIALLY if someone is much bigger and stronger than you. They grab ahold of you and try to smother you or grab you and use their weight to push you to the ground.
Also, alot times even in striking people lose their footing and end up falling. So, no, it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen A LOT. I'd say something more like 60 or 70 percent , not 100.
Mortido 2 years ago
I'd probably grab your balls before you grabbed mine.
tdo1974 3 years ago
I was just wondering. Why do all you who call this useless come and watch this? The negative comments are from sissy's who would learn very quickly there first class, their first time rolling live. But all of a sudden on the street that would change? Oh you got a knife? HAHAHA. Or 8 to 10 of your friends will jump out? HAHAHA. Or wait your gonna punch me in the balls? HAHAHA. Or headbutt me? well ok. Being invovled in the sport of bjj doesnt make a person stupid.
tdo1974 3 years ago
I take a 150 pound weakling who has trained bjj for a year over all of you. Do you know how quick the average untrained man gets tired in a fight? Go to a bjj school for 1 year and then tell me do you think you could kick your own ass?
tdo1974 3 years ago 2
Why so negative towards bjj? Yes you can eye gouge, headbutt etc in a real fight. But dont you think the people who decide to go train in bjj and any other martial arts realize this? Dont you think a guy who has trained for 10 years or even one year has improved himself in every aspect(agility, quickness, responsivness, strength, awareness to name a few)?
tdo1974 3 years ago 2
2) to go at the ground you must pass in the strike. Everyone have seen a real fight know this. Peoples want hit you and you must know striking to defend from this. In a real fight is incredible an armlock!!!! 3) If you aren't sure that your opponent is alone... is better you don't fight. Your system is inappropriate against 2 or more opponents 4) the ground isn't a tatami or ring 5) In a crowded pub you can't fight. ... Bjj is only fashion... Like in this time the mma
gemsmider 3 years ago
first of all gemsmider, your kung fu is no good here (that has been proven time and again) All you " two or more attackers " idiots crack me up: if you can't handle ONE bjj guy, what makes you think you can handle TWO of us?and, if it comes down to it, we know how to headbutt, bite, eye gouge and all the other pussy shit your style probably teaches you in little outfits, scarves, the difference is, once we get a hold of you to do this, there is no getting away. Go to any BJJ school to find out.
dragonballjules 3 years ago
Paytience3721 2 years ago 3
Otherwise, BJJ says just relax and stay back.
There's a huge difference between Sport Jiu-Jitsu, Cage Jiu-Jitsu which is popular now, and the original street art of BJJ.
You and anyone else would do well to learn that.
Also, BJJ does train striking. Does not ALWAYS advocate going to the ground...and is made Primarily for the street.
Before you go any farther then you 3rd or 4th class you'll learn this, as well as the difference in techniques and situations.
Paytience3721 2 years ago
i agree with you except for one thing my instructor teaches striking but only as means to get the fight ot the ground.
ritchieroyce 2 years ago
Right...very often it is used as a way to close the distance, or in certain situation, to get your opponent off you to escape.
(i.e. using a knee or push kick when against a wall.)
Paytience3721 2 years ago
@gemsmider street fights usualy end up on the ground with the 2 guys still completely conscious. Knowing ur bjj makes you good for ground and pound. You take what you want from bjj.. in a street fight I won't do fancy knee locks. In a street fight I would use bjj only for controlling the opponent and getting in a good position for ground and pound. Street fights are, in essence, ground and pound
Thewiseguitar 1 year ago
I think brazilian jiu jitsu is the most useless martial art never seen. It's fortune is mma fights, without this latest fad BJJ is a idiot system. Consider this: 1) In a real fight in the ground you have head butt, scratch (also in the eyes), bites, hits at the genitals and a lot of thing that bjj ignore.
gemsmider 3 years ago

True the Kimura Vs. Gracie match was not a good representative of a street fight at all, as the gracies brought in thick pads that let him withstand Kimura's many absolutly brutal throws. Kimura also won anyway.
TurnerBJJ 3 years ago
The Gracie challenge proved that their opponents knew very little about fighting. You're in their school in front of 50 of their students? You fight on a giant spongee matt where you can't move and strike very well? Try all those "take downs" on the asphalt. Then for some reason these "experts"...barely try? Just eye gouge them or fight them on the street and the whole "challenge" is a different ball game.. So in this regard a real challenege would be "No Rules/ on Concrete."
streeteffective 3 years ago
really you would get stabbed to death using bjj on the street its a ground fighting style useless against multiple opponents
drunknbaztard 3 years ago
Do you really thing a punch to the groin is gonna stop BJJ in a real fight. You'll just tick me off and get your arm broken faster.
TurnerBJJ 3 years ago
Yet they still call it a victory? You would have a hard time breaking the arm of a Japanese JuJitsu Black Belt (me) since every move in BJJ has came from us (except the silly sport stuff) So you take groin shots? Impressive. I've been hit so bad it made me pale white and break out in a cold sweat and I was physically ill? But I guess you'll tell me now that you'll walk right through eye gouges too? MMA guys are pretty tough. they drop like girls from both? BTW a Kimura does not break the arm.
streeteffective 3 years ago
They never called it a victory as his corner forfeited the fight cause he was to proud to tap (a bad thing in my book for many reasons). And you are right about not striking when changing positions being a bad thing. And eye gouges are paralyzing and most BJJ instructors recognize this and try to implement tips to avoid this.
TurnerBJJ 3 years ago
Lets just call a spade a spade, this is a cool sport, but not a street system. Anyone who moves from p[osition to position without striking is fooling themselves. At about 1:00 he post up in a 3 point stance where his groin will be struck. But these are the bad habits that carry over to the street when you train in a sport w/ rules. I love how they call it a "Kimua". That's the lock that The Judo Master Kimura broke Helio's arm with. Oh they don't mention that do they? It still beats bowling.

leichna 3 years ago
Can someone explain the whole BJJ thing to me? I mean, what good is a style where you can only fight one guy at a time? While you are down on the floor of the bar wrestling with some guy, trying to put some arm lock on him, his three buddies have picked up bar stools and begun smashing you on the head with them!! I can see how this could be useful inside the octagon, but any time you get into a wrestling match on the street you are very vulnerable.
leichna 3 years ago
Self defense BJJ does have a few standing breaks however most people focus on the competition BJJ moves. And most BJJ blue belts (Takes aprox. 2-3 years) Can put the average guy from the streets in a choke or armbar/lock in a matter of seconds making multiple oppenents possible but not efficent. Any decent BJJ school teaches its students Vale-Tudo which teaches striking, standing and on the ground.
TurnerBJJ 3 years ago 2
Ok.

yeah good point bout the early ufc's.
look ground fighting is essential now, no amtter how much any fighter wants to make fun of it you need bjj, or maybe some form of wrestling. its fun to swing wild punches but you need to be able to at least get off your back.

Not because I'm scared of it just simply because I know it works. In MMA today Jiu Jitsu is a must know. So stop talking and start training/fighting if you want to prove something.
