I believe if he does get this part he'll play it well. I had doubts about Ledger and when i saw the dark knight i was just in awe. Honestly, it wa Heath ledgers best film. Remember before the Dark Knight casting was revealed, with people claiming : "It will be this actor, or this one!!" and then Nolan surprised us all by casting Ledger? I think it will be the same, here : whoever will play the villain (we're not even sure, it's gonna be Riddler) will be a total surprise.

Depp is one of the most uninspired casting suggestions ever. Not only have people been throwing his name around for Riddler, but a Joker recast and a number of other Batman villains. If they do recast Joker(which I'm against) or if Riddler is in, I hope they don't go with such a lazy and predictiable choice. It would be a shame if Nolan stopped his inspired casting after the last two films.

@Classic80Rock a now adays riddler would have to be a hacker. so i agree with you so much, what a better way to control the flow of information, spread rumars. and figured shit out , and from what i remeber, he was the only one who new batmans true identity. and used it to his favor. i think if done right, deep could really kick ass in this, but im not going to get my hopes up, cause then ill be disapointed. especially when they all have huge shoes to fill, after heaths performance. good luck!!

I think The Riddler would be too much like the Joker, so people might find it a bit repetitive, though they do have their differences. Frankly, I wish for a Victor Fries, though. I just don't see Johnny in the role. I really like him as an actor, but I love the comic book and TAS versions of Riddler more. For Johnny to fit they'd have to change the character too much. The Riddler isn't ugly, like so many of Batman's other foes, and he's usually drawn as relatively attractive, but it's in a nerdy sort of way. Johnny is too physically imposing. If you want Depp in the movie, there are other Batman villains that would suit him more.

If Tim Burton or Joel Schumacher were still directing the franchise then there'd be some merit to this discussion. But Chris Nolan doesn't usually pick "big name" actors to be villains. The only exception would be Liam Neeson in Batman Begins. Nolan picks the right actor for the role.

if they are going the hollywood route, johnny depp would be a superb choice. however, there are plenty of other actors that could do the job quite well that aren't A-listers. david hyde pierce has the voice down perfectly as does doug jones. a real treat would be crispin glover. he can pull off that dark, creepy, and inquisitive voice that the riddler is known for.
