@LucasSasquatchScott have you actually tried these headphones? it doesn't really matter if you have, you obviously don't know what monitor headphones are...
Are these overkill for basic music listening for long trips... Other ppl cant hear what im listening to either :) if so anyvother headphones to recomwnd?
Hey guys I have little to no knowledge on headphones but from what I can see this is definitively the best there is. All I really want is something that keeps all the noise out. Would this be the best choice?
If I can get the Studio Beats for the same price as the ATH-M50s, which should I get? I listen to a little bit of everything, but mostly rap and hip-hop.
The M50's are an excellent choice for isolation when recording drums, allowing you to clearly hear the backing tracks. They're also a sturdy and comfortable fit which is great for active drummers.
@pcho614 Hi - you will find a discussion re this under the PRO700MKS2 product video on our channel. but in summary, The ATH-PRO700MK2 headphones have a very punchy sound with a tightened bass response and a little extra sparkle in the treble. They also have detachable cable which is useful. The ATH-M50 headphones have a flatter response and are more suitable for mixing and studio recording.
I have recently purchased these and while being very satisfied with the sound i dislike the comfort a lot, is there a way i can buy a softer pair of ear pads for these?
Hi @yousellouts, the ear pads fitted to the ATH-M50’s are the only type available for this model. We would not recommend changing the ear pads on your M50’s as this can affect the sound characteristics of the headphones.
@AudioTechnicaUK I'm really into dubstep music. And I am thinking about purchasing the ATH-M50's. Will dubstep sound good on them? What do you recommend?
@FazExKiLLa you can get the audio technica athpro 700 mk2 for the same price as the ath m50s. It's on sale on amazon now, but there aren't much left in stock. I only have the ath m50s, and the bass is really powerful, controlled and accurate, you won't regret going with the m50s, but I've heard the 700s have even more bass with the same detail in the highs. I listen to mainly dubstep, and the m50s are really good headphones to listen to dubstep with.
Thanks for your comments regarding noise cancellation on our ATH-M50 studio monitor headphones. There is no industry standard for measuring ambient noise cancellation and any specification given is dependent entirely upon what frequencies are being tested against.

@MsiEvgaAsusGigabyte: Sorry to hear you are having problems. Regarding the box, we have emailed you a picture of the box for reference - if your box is different to this then it may be your headphones were not brand new – eg reconditioned, or they may be non genuine. For the driver to stop working at high volume and start working again is a very odd problem which we have not seen. @AudioTechnicaUK I bought these headphonesin the end (you might remember me comparing these to the anc7b. Something odd. I bought on a 3rd party seller on amazon (straight cable). I recieved the coiled cable box but the straight cable headphones. They do sound great, but before these i had apple earphones. Any ideas about the box?
Just bought these as they were recommended, they are always highly praised on music forums for their equal sound comparrison to other headphones which cost 3x as much and many even prefer them, can't wait for the delivery. :-) woooop
@AudioTechnicaUK Hi I was wondering if the cable can come out of the headphones itself (like the quietpoint ath-anc7b) and also what is the difference between the m50s and the quietpoints in terms of sound quality and sound leakage.
@MsiEvgaAsusGigabyte: Hi, the M50 cable is not detachable no, but our service department is able to replace cables. The sound quality of the M50 is flat and neutral - the bass end is particularly smooth, right down into the bass frequencies. The ANC7b has more of a hifi sound quality with extra sparkle in the top. The M50's are designed to stop sound leakage whereas the ANC7b's will leak a little at higher volumes. Hope this helps.
@ytfmichaelxu : Hi, the M50s are very different headphones - not least because they are closed back making them more suitable for studio use where sound bleed may be an issue - so for vocal, drum and other types of recording. The open backed design of the HD650 would perhaps be more suited to mixing as opposed to monitoring, but that's a very subjective and personal choice thing. For a top of the range A-T open backed model - you could consider the ATH-AD1000.
@ytfmichaelxu : The ATH-M50's are also available to trial for 2 weeks under our First Impressions scheme which allows you to borrow a selection of mics and headphones (UK based customers only). Just go to our website and follow the link on the homepage - towards the bottom, on the right.
They are very suitable for the iPod touch, as it has a good quality pre-amp built in which compliments the headphones. We would recommend the coiled cable as opposed to the straight cable version if used for going out and about; convenient and can be extended if required. The straight cable tends to be the preferred choice for studio use
These headphones are amazing.....point black period no questions asked. Im a big hip hop fan so thats most of my music, the base on this is incredible nice and clear and not to strong but strong enough. Hands down better then beats by dre( yes i own a pair of those too)
and finally my last question! i know these are not bass heavy headphones, but if songs i listen to are bass heavy with the audio technica's give me a nice bass?
@cmontblock4life The M50's are designed to give maximum comfort over long periods of time. As is the case with most headphones though, you may find sweat becomes an issue during extended periods of physical excercise.
@cmontblock4life you shouldn't have any problems using the M50's for excercise but we would recommend cleaning the earpads after use in order to maintain their condition.
are these headphones better then the Bose QC15? someone please respond quickly. I'm thinking about buying the bose qc's because of noise cancelling and because of the high quality sound they produce. But I listen to music with lots of bass and these, I hear, are the best of the best.
@ShaverzzHD thanks! and yea I've read up some reviews on amazon about bose and heard their all marketing but they produce some pretty good sound. im going with the ath m50s
Hi - no batteries are nedded - just plug them in and enjoy! :) And @yousellouts: absolutely, these would also be idea for home use as well as in a studio environment
3/8" or so. If your case is really thin, it would maybe work. I'm not a bass head, but I think these have exceptional bass. It sounds true to what the intended sound is, and it's not overpowering like beats can be. the high notes are really crisp as well. I am fond of drum solos and these are superb headphones for drums. The mids aren't quite as good as the high's and low's, but so far these are the best headphones I've encountered for something under $300. Well worth the $120 or so I paid.
The plug look big. What if i want to pkug into my iphone which have a case. Itlooks like i woud have to remove the case of my iphone to plug it into it.
@TheSebb47 yep. i have these and a 3gs. you do need to remove the cover, but the sound quality is extremely worth it. pulling the cover off is no big deal for these headphones.
Does anyone reckon that they are better than the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, I need to know so I can by a decent pair unlike my crappy ones at the moment.
@diache93 They are much better than Beats by Dre. Beats are popular among those who don't know much about headphones because they look cool, and everyone seems to have them. They are sold by their looks and people rave about them because they are a lot better than what they are used to (the standard iPod headphones, for example). But the fact is that they are pretty shabby headphones and ridiculously overpriced. The ATH-M50 is miles ahead, don't get fooled into wasting your money on Beats.
Just ordered these straight cable for $109 from B&H Photo/Video online. Guitar Center wants $179 for these with straight cable. I'm beginning to see that GC isn't all that great cause there's alot of music equipment from other vendors I'm seeing at lower prices, many times much lower. Support the small dog, fuck the big dog.
@PlanetDrumLtd these headphones are your best bet by a landslide. You will not do better for the buck, If these guys were twice the price it would be worth it. The noise isolation is geared towards professional applications. AT. was playing around when constructing these. iv handled many headphones in my time, for the price they ar unbeatable and the sound/noise isolation is indeed fantastic.
@RokerBorut well i have regular sized ears, but unless you're talkn dumbo, then i think you should be fine. These phones ar enot be 2nd guessed. My initial comment was over 6 months ago, now they sound even better after tons of use. They are still the best.
@codern - great :) No worries, i'm not fucking dumbo, so it will be ok i thing :) I'm comparing these to Beyerdinamics 770 pro 80 ohms, AKG 271MKII and Shure SHR 840. Did you have any experience with those? I'm looking for best studio-mixing headphones in these range, so any help would be great! Thanks! :)
@RokerBorut ath m50 by a landslide, I initially tried about 100 cans. These easily surpass it, they're built to last. They'll last years and years with their rugged construction. Fro ex. they're fully collapsible, so if they fall, they'll just fall in a natural collapse which protects them. They are impeccable for mixing, esp. if they're burnt in. Just get them while they're still on the market. I promise you wont go wrong.
@codern - DONE! I bought these phones two days ago and here are my first thoughts. They sounds GREAT! When they burn out, they will be even better. But on my great shame - they are uncomftable, at the moment at least. My left ear starts to hurt me after a while, and i got headaches (which i usually never have). I think they cover my whole ears, but they make heavy pressure on my head, i hope this goes better after a while. If not, i'll have to replace them unfortually :/
@RokerBorut hmm, well-don't lose hope just yet. Think about it as a new pair of shoes that u just need to get used to. Me personally, i found them perfectly fine but i suppose to each his own. Rest assured that there are many headphones that are not comfortable more many peeople. Ultimately, if ur using them for a serious project, u want quality 1st & foremost...give it a chance, use it often, burn it in..dont focuz so much on how they feel & before you know it, it might not be an issue. cheers
@codern I figure it out, why my left ear hurt. You can rotate earpads, and left headphone wasn't set properly, so it's much better now. I'll gave them a try of course, as i always do. I hope it'll be all fine in the end ;) cheers
@codern hey do you have any tips on how to easily fix the cord? where do i get the cord? i pulled too hard and the signals dropped now... i'd mail it in, but since this is the second time, i guess i'd like to learn to do it myself. thanks - i love these cans too!
Hello, all. I've been doing a lot of research into headphones as an upcoming christmas gift and I can't think of another time when I've seen such a positively reviewed product as the M50's. I love what I've read and the price is affordable.
My only concern is that these are advertised as studio headphones that are great for isolating. I am just a casual listener who wants to plug these into my ipod and enjoy. Would you still recommend me to these or are there better options at this price?
@mastorito7 I own a pair of Sennheiser 595 and have done that for a while now. Driven to their fullest potential.
Sennheiser 595: Vocals sound good, dynamics are pretty good and the sound is all over clear. Shooting in FPS games sounds really bad and the highs are to tin in sound for me. I've only tried the M50's in a store today actually and they will probably sound ALOT better for gaming and has a nice strong bass (not muddy) and sounded great all over. I'm gonna buy the M50's soon :-)
@mastorito7 i cant play mw2 without m50s, and i get greatly improved scores using m50s. i havent tried 595 but yeh theres my op. for music, without amp it sounds awesome but you have to put the headphones on a certain way. it gives a lot more bass :D
@CCMrJones No doubt about it. I've had mine for about a year, and I've been blown away by them. They've held up very very well, and sound quite amazing! (Though, since they are a closed design, they don't have that spacious feeling to em.)
theese seems nice, i have sennheiser 280 pro, but these seem better, i wanted to get jvcHARX900 how do they compare to the jvc

Anyway, so far the higes noise isolation headphones for vocal recording or drummers are:
The Sennheiser HD 280 or 380 PRO that can cancel ambient noise to 32 dB
And the highest, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 M that cancel noise up to 35 dB.
Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic publish this info for there top pro studio headphones.
How come Audio-Technica is not willing to do it?
So the question is:
Does anyone here or even Audio-Technica knows how much isolation the ATH-M50 can cancell?

mrbest20 3 months ago
I contacted Audio-Technica with my question and there answer was "We do not spec ambient noise reduction.
This is very hard to measure because the question is "At what frequency?"
I contacted them again, and they refused to answer and Rejected to publish my question on there Q&A Products Overview page: ATH-M50.
This tells me that Audio-Technica is not legitimate, they only post answers and questions with good reviews. NOT legitimate.
FarandulaClub 4 months ago
Since no one at Audio-Technica wants to answer this question, maybe someone here can help.
I'm looking for the best headphones for vocal recording
This mean that the isolation must be top notch to avoid bleed back in the mic while recording.
My question is, how good is the isolation seal on the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 ?

The plug look big. What if i want to pkug into my iphone which have a case. Itlooks like i woud have to remove the case of my iphone to plug it into it.
TheSebb47 1 year ago
@TheSebb47 yep. i have these and a 3gs. you do need to remove the cover, but the sound quality is extremely worth it. pulling the cover off is no big deal for these headphones.
ksax23 1 year ago
@ksax23 do you know how big it is in inch? like 1/4"? :) plz. my case is not a hard/solid one. maybe i cant fit it in.
What about the bass?

Top producers like Dre?! Oh wait no he has those crappy ass beats nvm.
PlanetDrumLtd 1 year ago
Does anyone reckon that they are better than the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, I need to know so I can by a decent pair unlike my crappy ones at the moment.
diache93 1 year ago

@codern How is tyhe noise isolation? I need some headphones that don't break the bank but that have amazing noise isolating sound.
PlanetDrumLtd 1 year ago
@PlanetDrumLtd these headphones are your best bet by a landslide. You will not do better for the buck, If these guys were twice the price it would be worth it. The noise isolation is geared towards professional applications. AT. was playing around when constructing these. iv handled many headphones in my time, for the price they ar unbeatable and the sound/noise isolation is indeed fantastic.

@codern
yeah i have read very good reviews about happy customers
however i checked the frequency response curve and they have a 6 db boost in the bass section ( kick frequency space) from aprox 30hz to 230 hz
and i would like to know if that boost is real and revealing or just sounds "awesome"
What monitors do you use for mixing?
SynaesthesiaOfficial 11 months ago
@codern - are they comftable for bigger ears also? I've hears that they rather pretty small. Other than that, AMAZING headphones!
RokerBorut 8 months ago
@RokerBorut well i have regular sized ears, but unless you're talkn dumbo, then i think you should be fine. These phones ar enot be 2nd guessed. My initial comment was over 6 months ago, now they sound even better after tons of use. They are still the best.
codern 8 months ago
@codern - great :) No worries, i'm not fucking dumbo, so it will be ok i thing :) I'm comparing these to Beyerdinamics 770 pro 80 ohms, AKG 271MKII and Shure SHR 840. Did you have any experience with those? I'm looking for best studio-mixing headphones in these range, so any help would be great! Thanks! :)
RokerBorut 8 months ago
@RokerBorut ath m50 by a landslide, I initially tried about 100 cans. These easily surpass it, they're built to last. They'll last years and years with their rugged construction. Fro ex. they're fully collapsible, so if they fall, they'll just fall in a natural collapse which protects them. They are impeccable for mixing, esp. if they're burnt in. Just get them while they're still on the market. I promise you wont go wrong.
codern 8 months ago
@codern - thanks a lot man, many says so, and i believe them. I think i'll buy those next week for sure! :)
RokerBorut 8 months ago
@RokerBorut no prob! and wise choice. Let me know just how awesome they are once you purchase them. Cheers :)
codern 8 months ago
@codern - will do ;) Thanks.
RokerBorut 8 months ago
@codern - DONE! I bought these phones two days ago and here are my first thoughts. They sounds GREAT! When they burn out, they will be even better. But on my great shame - they are uncomftable, at the moment at least. My left ear starts to hurt me after a while, and i got headaches (which i usually never have). I think they cover my whole ears, but they make heavy pressure on my head, i hope this goes better after a while. If not, i'll have to replace them unfortually :/
RokerBorut 8 months ago
@RokerBorut hmm, well-don't lose hope just yet. Think about it as a new pair of shoes that u just need to get used to. Me personally, i found them perfectly fine but i suppose to each his own. Rest assured that there are many headphones that are not comfortable more many peeople. Ultimately, if ur using them for a serious project, u want quality 1st & foremost...give it a chance, use it often, burn it in..dont focuz so much on how they feel & before you know it, it might not be an issue. cheers
codern 8 months ago
@codern I figure it out, why my left ear hurt. You can rotate earpads, and left headphone wasn't set properly, so it's much better now. I'll gave them a try of course, as i always do. I hope it'll be all fine in the end ;) cheers

@RokerBorut oops typo...i meant "for many people".

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or Sennheiser 595?
Mainly for music but also for gaming.
Honestly!
mastorito7 1 year ago
@mastorito7 I own a pair of Sennheiser 595 and have done that for a while now. Driven to their fullest potential.
Sennheiser 595: Vocals sound good, dynamics are pretty good and the sound is all over clear. Shooting in FPS games sounds really bad and the highs are to tin in sound for me. I've only tried the M50's in a store today actually and they will probably sound ALOT better for gaming and has a nice strong bass (not muddy) and sounded great all over. I'm gonna buy the M50's soon :-)
markusblomstrand92 1 year ago
@mastorito7 I would go with the m50
stud002 1 year ago
@mastorito7 i cant play mw2 without m50s, and i get greatly improved scores using m50s. i havent tried 595 but yeh theres my op. for music, without amp it sounds awesome but you have to put the headphones on a certain way. it gives a lot more bass :D

@CCMrJones these are great! i use them for games and music. underkill im sure.
thisizbrian 1 year ago
@CCMrJones No doubt about it. I've had mine for about a year, and I've been blown away by them. They've held up very very well, and sound quite amazing! (Though, since they are a closed design, they don't have that spacious feeling to em.)
