its not really a gps. it just finds where you are using the cell phone network towers. if there is no network, you can't find your place. a real gps connects to a satellite and some phones have a real gps like the nokia n95, n82 and some windows mobile phones.

The latest update for the iPhone from Apple includes a GPS function. When you open Google maps now, it has a large circle with a crosshair that shows where you are. I'm not sure how accurate it is compared to other GPS units but it does work.

i use a bluetooth gps device.. because of PPC platform, there are huge array of FREE GPS s/wares to use. iPhone is lightyears behind this because thee just aren't the apps to support it yet. Fancy showing off GoogleMaps on iPhone without the essential GPS functionality! Typical hype!

why does everyone look for bloody starbucks on their iphone?! My HTC does a thousand tmes more than what this iPhone does and connects to my bt gps. Most of the PPC apps were a free download. Within 10mins of using an iphone i was missing the functionality of my HTC PPC. iPhone is a good concept but in its current state, its nothing more than just pure hype and looks.

Google maps on an iPhone is nothing special since it's a free download for any phone with GPRS capability (obviously not including the WAP charge for your provider). For actual dedicated GPS there are the N95 and N95 8GB (8GB is limited to Vodafone at the moment but will be available to all later) or the Nokia 6110 Navigator. There is a Samsung coming out in a few months with GPS too, but that'll be later.
