There was a cartoon that I loved where a town girl falls into a well and ends up in a crazy world. Its was a different version of Alice in Wonderland I think. Can anyone help with the name of this cartoon?
@MuzikRoze40 I think the name is "Once Upon A Time" released in 1976 or "The Two Caskets" which "Alice In Wonderland" seems based off. I will send you a link also.
KTLA will be launching "antennatv" a channel dedicated to old programming. I just email them to request for them to rebroadcast programs like "Family Film Festival"
and the Show with Tom Hatten showing Popeye and George of the Jungle cartoons.
If we're lucky they might even rebroadcast "Movies Till Dawn" and "Movies For A Saturday Evening" MAYBE IF ENOUGH OF US EMAIL THIS REQUEST!
I mainly used this as a way to show my wife what the beginning of Family Film Festival was like. She grew up in a different state, so she never even heard of this. I still remember when the opening included a portion from the song "Reminiscing" from Little River Band!
WOW! I remember watching this. I turned 39 today, so it's been really great to be able to "look back" at the 80s...it's been even better being able to live it! :)
Does anyone remember a cartoon where Erin Morans voice is a fairy guiding a boy who has to get some magical items for a king. (the boy is ugly but falls into the bath thats suppose to be for the king containing the magical items & he becomes handsome then the princess falls for him. It was shown in the family film festival & i've been longing to see it.
@musicrose10k I remember seeing that as well. It also had a huge whale who couldn't move ( because of a curse or something ) and had a town on it's back. Richard Backus ( Mister Magoo, Gilligains Island ) voiced the king too, I remember .
@Skulldini Such great cartoons back then, whatever happened to innocence & decency nowadays. My children have to be banned from watching Family Guy & all these other crappy cartoons. Now if they sold these movies then we could have our FFF every Sunday! I'm also trying to find a cartoon which is like a different version of Alice and Wonderland (a young girl falls into the towns well & ends up in another land) Did you ever watch this cartoon?
The original intro song was "Reminiscing" by Little River Band. Original cut was circa '78. Great song. Real smooth. Reminiscing is right... this show and that song bring back a lot of memories.
@gpbennett I have not found any good film festival like it on TV since I was a kid. KBYU donation drives may be the closest thing today. Why is stupid Perfect strangers coming up next to this? Only Pippi and pinocio or popeye are things that aired with Hatten. I was hoping to get more movie title hints cuz I don't remember all he used to show.
Holy crap I have not heard this man's voice in 20+ years. I freaking LOVE FFF and Tom Hatten IS the best host I have seen to date. He introduced me to so many cartoons from around the world (The Magic Pony (dub but its cool); Pippi Longstocking, the TRUE Little Mermaid, The italian Pinnocchio (dub) and so many others. Sigh.....I wish KTLA would release his shows on DVD-I know I would be one of many, many adults who would snatch it fast.
I watched for years. Saw a lot of great movies, probably some I will never see again. Tom Hatten used to draw a Popeye character from a "squiggle" which would be chosen from those who sent one in. The winner's name would be announced by Tom, and then he would quickly transform the squiggle into a very good drawing. He also ran George of The Jungle (1960's vtg) cartoons, as well as Popeye. He will be missed.
I used to watch the family film festival as a kid. Just like popeye and friends every sunday. Unless when the California Angels were playing then I would watch baseball.
I remember growing up to watching Tom Hatten and FFF. I remember when he showed Pipi Longstocking as well as the Little Rascals. Just another fantastic memory of growing up in a great era. Thank you for the memories!
This was great to see. I grew up watching the FFF and this brings back amazing memories. I love Tom, I just want to hug that man. They played Pippi Longstocking all the time too...ahhh.
This was a very funny movie... As for Tom Hatten, grew up watching him on Sunday mornings via KTLA Channel 5 when he was the host the Popeye Cartoons...and of course The Family Film Festival... Thanks for posting it. David
I saw a film on FFF that was stop motion about a penguin and an inventor living on top of a mountain and it ended with a car race. Cool action scene with cotton balls for smoke. Anyone know the title?
Cody, you're not alone; I too saw and loved it! After some searching, I found out about it. Flåklypa Grand Prix (released under the English title "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix") is a Norwegian stop motion-animated feature film directed by Ivo Caprino. It was released in 1975 and is based on characters from a series of books by Norwegian cartoonist and author Kjell Aukrust. There are good versions of this floating around out there as this may be the most-watched Norwegian film in the world. Enjoy!
Cool, thanks... I've been in contact with Tom Hatten in the last 2 weeks. He just compiled a list of all the movies that he showed on the "KTLA Family Film Festival" durring it's 13 year run. I'll will be posting online once I get it. Tom is a really nice guy.
That's wonderful! Give Tom lots of love & respect from one among a generation of fans who really valued his impact on their lives. I'm curious, since someone seeing this may know; I've been trying to find out about this film he once screened (Scandanavian I think?) about a child who goes out to buy ice cream for his family and ends up in an alternate world adventure ala "Wizard Of Oz" - he frees oppressed children in a castle with strange baddies and wakes up back in his world. Any help?
@MuzikRoze40 Yes, I have the list I received from Tom about 3 years ago. He had gone into his garage for me and went through all his old scripts he had in boxes for the FFF and took note of the movies. He typed it up on his old typerwriter. He doesn't use computers at all. The thing is, I know the list in incomplete based on my memory. I mentioned that too him after I received the list. He said that was the best he could do.

You sure this is '89? Tom keeps saying "5 years ago" about My Favorite Year. MFY came out in '82, so that would place this FFF in 1987.

Tom Hatten was such a class act. I was fortunate enough to watch him on the Popeye show and FFF.
He turned me on to so many interesting films. Once he played an obscure version of Pinochio from Europe that was way better than the Disney version.
But his commentary was 2nd to none! I felt like I was watching the movie with him.

Pinocchio In Outer Space.
Miggy1972 2 years ago
No. It followed the Pinocchio story line, but no songs. I remember that Pinocchio had paper clothes and a half a load of bread for a hat.
In this version, Pinocchio learned the hard way about playing with matches when he burned his feet off.
But what struck me the most was the old elegant animation style similar to Gulliver's Travels.
busymartian 2 years ago 2
I've been wanting to watch that version ever since I watched it on FFF a looooooooooooong time ago.
