Dr. Otto L. Jiriczek, in his book: „Die Deutsche Heldensage” (Sammlung Göschen. G.J. Göschensche Verlag, Berlin u. Leipzig, 1913) on page 111 writes: „Sigurd rides towards the land of the Franks, as he comes to the Field of the Walküren. He is called ‘the southern, the Hun hero".
So, Alex Alice just released (in November 2011) his third and last "comic" for his Siegfried trilogy. This means that a movie will not be released in 2011. Let's hope that he finds the funds to make a movie for his AWESOME comics by 2012, or later. I'm French so I easily bought his work, but I'm wondering if other European countries can too (apart from French Belgium and Switzerland). If there were a continental following, a real movie could be a possibility. So buy his damn comics!
I would love to see this made into a full-length film, and I'm quite sure that I can speak for other fans Der Ring des Nibelungen, we'd all flock to the theater to see it. Superb visuals that reveal a real understanding of the story!
I know the main music used in the vid is the Prelude to Act 1 - Das Rheingold, but can any Wagnerites out there please tell me what part the music at the end is!? (3:58 onwards)
@81Mace81 -- Music at 3:58 is based on Brunnhilde's salute to the sun from Act 3 of Die Walkure. She's been asleep on top of a fiery mountain for many years, having been stripped of her godhead. Only a man without fear can wake her, which Siegfried does. She awakens to being human for the first time, feeling the sun on her body.
@LidaRose9 Thank you for the reply LidaRose9, however surely Brunnhilde awakens at the end of Siegfried? so if it's based on her saluting the sun after years of sleep, the music would have to be from there. Either that or perhaps it's at the end of Die Walkure as you say, around the time of the Magic Fire Music in Act 3, when she's put into slumber?
@81Mace81 Weeeeell - actually it's a bit taken from the opening of "Götterdämmerung": Same motif, but different instrumentation than the "awakening"-music in Siegfried (it's kinda like the dolled up version of it)... ;P
I heard that the budget failed to materialize so the film is canceled. The creator Alex Alice is publishing a graphic novel version instead (or something like that).
It's a demo trailer to a project that never is. It's based on a graphic novel adaption of the saga/opera by Alex Alice, in france. They also produced this trailer to show what an animated feature based on it could look like.
One of the biggest problems there is with living in the U.S. IS THAT YOU DON'T GET TO SEE AWSOME FILMS LIKE THIS ONE! THIS FILM LOOKS AMAZING! I understand people think that animation should really be just for kids, but come on! This movie looks great!
Why cant American filmakers make something this awesome? oh wait, they would probably fucking ruin it by putting in shitty comic relief characters and CGI
The movie is supposed to come out once the three (French) comics are completed. I bought and read the first one and, being a fan of the Nibelungen Saga myself, I must say I thought it was amazing. A beautiful piece of pure art.
The looseliness (if that's even a word) of the adaptation is due to the fact that Alex Alice, the author, based his story mostly on the opera by Richard Wagner.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
nice animated, i guess by northern koreans, but the story itself looks so boring, like star wars for grandpas with some low-beat wagnerian music, that s old stuff
This looks so bad ass! Its like Lord of the Rings meet Conan the Barbarian meets Masters of the Universe meet Legend. Wondering if this is in production or even completed. This is how you'll get people interested in 2D animation again. I love animated epics, so many possibilities with that medium.
GRACIAS, GRACIAS ALEX ALEC
It is maybe one of the oldest "sword and sorcery" tales and the archetype of almost every sword hero story, ranging from Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, He-man, Conan, Frazetta...
Everyone pays a tribute to Siegfried, the dragon slayer, and the Rhine Gold...a tribute to the old germanic world, from where all the stories of mighty thundergods, legendary kings, mines and dwarfs, shieldmaidens, magical swords, powerful dragons, rainbow bridges and golden halls in th sky, come from...
@KronprinzAdam it is not "sword and sorcery". it's a "myth" and it's about a thousand times more interesting than all comics and stupid blockbusters in the world.
@Regenmacher175 Of course Rainmaker, it is "THE myth of myths". It has incredible historical value, a look inside Low Middle Ages!! But it has already "Sword & Sorcery" (S&S) elements on it (Siegfried slays the dragon...using a sword), and he used magic and magical objects....it has already all S&S elements. Some S&S artwork is beautifully drawn, it is not so stupid as you think.
So i was looking for this on imdb, and i also googled it, but for no result. Are there any english site for it? For people who does not speak french... When will it come out?
I don't think it's an actual film. I think it's more of a trailer from the graphic novel. Like a proof of concept to maybe get studios interested. It's brilliant. I would so buy this if it were a finished film.
« à l'aube des temps » : non, je ne suis pas d'accord ; on pourrait situer le mythe plutôt dans la période de Stonehenge, soit grossomodo vers 5000 av. J-C... Voilà qui serait beaucoup plus plausible ! Du moins, d'un point de vue historique.
Si tu pouvais commenter de façon non débile, peut-être aurai-je alors envie de t'accorder une attention : de plus, mon message n'est nullement relatif à wagner... Pauvre tachon !!!
