This was held in Septem er of the previous year back in those days. This aired live in September 1985 The winner was crowned Miss America 1986 .When you get older you remember all this useless detail

Halle Berry was 1986 Miss Ohio in the Miss USA pageant, the winner of which takes part in Miss Universe.

This one, Miss America, is the contest with the flute playing (talent) portion to pretend we're not just picking the chick who looks hottest in their bikini.

A good friend of mine accidentally taped this following the series premeires of the Golden Girls and 227. All we had was the parade of states before the tape ran out. We still roll on the floor watching this....classic! Samantha Mohr, Miss Georgia who we giggled at for her goofy big-eyed smile as she walked away from the mic is now a regular on-camera meteorologist on the weather channel. She is stunning these days...looks much better now than she did then.

yes, the Miss Washington pageant is held in Vancouver, WA across the river from Portland, OR.

Miss Illinois, Karen Moncrieff, later appeared on 'Days of our Lives' as Gabrielle Pascal (1987-1988) and 'Santa Barbara' as Cassandra Benedict (1990-1992).

Miss Arizona and Miss Florida also participated in Miss USA 1987 and 1988 respectively. They look better at Miss USA pageant, btw.

In addition, Miss North Dakota was in Miss USA 1983 and was 4th runner-up. Miss Wisconsin was in Miss USA 1988 and although she placed in the top 10 in preliminary swimsuit, she didn't make the semifinals.
