Interesting, but silly. Bend the big gear teeth in 90 degree, the figure too, put all mechanism horizontal, and the figure will be spinning in circle like dancer and presents dancing. Now, the figure does unnatural movement. Why upside down?

haha. The round, inside gear provides the "stationary ground". Thats what the little man and the handle relies on. There are 3 rollers connected on the ground and one of those rollers has the handle. Inside those 3 rollers is a perfect ring with a gear connected to it (free to spin) and then the man connected to that. The teeth on the gear match the teeth on the ground. When you move the gear it simply goes with the teeth together causing the gear and the man connected to it to spin.
