That pinch hitter is a pitcher, Shingo Takatsu who had played for major league as well, Cicago whitesox and a few other teams many years ago. I am Japanese and baseball fan , I remember this game of 15years ago well
It could be I guess, but many pitchers do not bat, so that is why in the American league pitchers are substituted out by a designated hitter, however in the National league you can not have someone pinch hit for the pitcher, he must pitch.
Ichiro is great but when he was debut in Japan, manager wouldn't appreciate his batting form(his batting form is unique). So he was farmed out on the day he belted a homerun.
At a Fan Fest, it had the Seattle Mariners, and the Miami Dolphins there, And I saw Ichiro, and Ichiro threw me a ball! And I also have a Baseball shirt of him! I'm wearing it to School when we play T-Ball at P.E.! GO ICHIRO!
@vivixdragon It's an all-star game though. I would agree that Ichiro is probably pitching in relief, but that alone does not necessarily determine whether he is a starter or not. Was this just a gimmick or did he actually pitch in japan? He has THE strongest arm in the league in outfield, but I don't know how well that translates if someone doesn't know how to pitch.
this must explain Papelbons career 1.84 ERA. an only 18 blownsaves in 4 years (about avereage). 4 straight all-star games, being in the top 10 every full year of his career in saves. And an un believable 0.92 ERA in only first full season....
And hes also very young and has little experience in such a huge role... Its tough being a red sox player in the post season, let alone the closer. Give his some time his play off number will come around
Your numbers are a little off. 160 km/h is 100 mph, so you are correct here.
But, 150 km/h is closer to 93 mph,
and 140 km/h is closer to 87 mph.
The conversion of km/h to mph, or visa-versa, results in an estimated number. If you'd like an exact conversion, 140 km/h equals 86.992 mph. Talking in terms of exact decimals is too technical, so 86.992 mph is rounded off to 87 mph.
The km/h figures you posted have one, two, or no digits...this makes the conversion uneven. It's uneedingly specific to write out the conversion to the exact decimal on a simple video annotation showing km/h to mph, so I rounded off. This makes more sense.
140 km/h = 86.992 mph (three digits after the decimal) so I rounded off to 87 mph.
Your mph figures but with one digit after the decimal point:
he is amazing at outfield and hitting hitting better than david ortiz right now and can pitch really good? geese is there anything he cant do? he should pitch some times for seattle.
I'm not sure about fielders pitching in the Japanese league. I've heard of some in the Major Leagues that pitched in college or in the minors but converted to fielders. These have pitched an inning or two before when their team ran out of relief pitchers during a blowout loss. Ichiro appears to be above an average pitcher for a a fielder; he can bring it at 90 mph, just don't expect to see him pitching anytime soon.

i'm not sure where you guys got these numbers from but 1mph = 1.61 kmh so 100mph = 161km and 93.2mph = 150kmh...
so 90mph = 144.9kmh
