Beautiful song. I lost my brother Matt at the age of 22 in September 2010. This is the song I used in his funeral slideshow. I can't even listen to it without crying. R.I.P Matt. I Love you.
@16beatlefan haha I cried the first time I listened to this.. also because I was feeling very sentimental having just left spain, where I studied abroad for the summer
My God, I never thought ANYONE would ever approach the Al Green version of this song. But the funereal tone in Cash's voice is equally heartbreaking... no, more so. Very different approaches to the same song. Both aching in their own private hearts.
@ddoty39 Actually, the song is written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson back in '69 for his debut album, which was released in 1970. In that same year Price did record it and had a huge hit with it, but it's not originally his.
Please don't get me wrong, Price did a good job on it, but I'm just setting the record straight ;-)
Johnny was & is a legend & this from his last studio album is a great song from what I personally believe is the most evocative album he ever did! God bless Johnny & thanks for all the memories, music laughs & tears - you are one of the brightest stars in heaven!
I found this song by accident and Im glad I did. I didnt think he could do this song justice ,but I was wrong . This version gives me chills ,it is that good. He makes every song his own.
Why would you download the Album, if your a true Johnny Cash fan or just like the music by the wonderous man, then you MUST buy it to show your respect as he recorded this with his dying breaths.
wow, this is an amazing version. it makes me so sad though, amazing how we share things with ppl then burn those bridges and move on with life, we human beings are a weird breed...lol
@nakketakker I watched it - this Waylon chose to fuck up the lyrics of the song at three crucial points, taking away strength from the song - a great voice though
What a man, what a singer. He brings so much joy in my life because he is able to cover life's emotions and he was very intelligent. I always tend to say: of all JC's -Jesus Christ, Julius Ceasar, Johan Cruyff, Johnny Cash, the latter is the best to listen maybe also because he managed to marry a JC! .
May both rest in peace but I would give a fortune to see him live performing again.
This song isnt from Cash.
It was written by Kris Kristofferson.
All the credits to Kris.
