How do you put on the clay, in large pieces of thicker strips? also do you have to apply clay everywhere on the head to make a full face mask? Thanks for answering all my questions.
I use a thin layer (1/8") to cover the whole head, then I add clay to match my own cranial dimensions and after that I begin making the mask, if I don't cover the whole head I've found that the clay will wanna come off of it since clay doesn't stick to foam. As long as you've made you jacket mold properly is doesn't matter how hard the mother mold is to remove (doesn't matter if you wreck the clay form underneath. if the clay form is important try making a 2 part mother mold.
First of all, this stuff is amazing, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this stuff.
I was wondering what these are for.
From what I gather it sounds like you could put this stuff on, which is amazing.
I've actually never sculpted before in my life, and I want to start soon. Does Klean Klay take paint well? Do you have any tips for a clay that will air dry without shrinking?
you don't want to paint klean clay, you'll need air dry clay to paint it but you also have a very narrow work window with airdry clay, that's why you need to keep it wet until you're done, klean klay is great since it doesn't dry but don't paint it, since it's $2 + per lb it would be a waste plus the paint wouldn't stick, klean klay is good for making molds.
Im confused as to what this is for. After it hardens do you wear it or is it just a sculpture? Thanks.

what kind of clay is that?

I use Klean Klay but any type of non-sulphur clay will work, plastalina is another type that's like this.

Great vid!
I ended up wrapping wire around the foam head I used as a base. Just so the clay would have something to grip too better.
I live in Texas so I keep the sculpt in the fridge until I can work on it again.
