I've never thought of Q as being evil. If he used his powers to spread death and destruction, he'd be evil, but he usually just uses them to irritate people. Really, he's more of a nuisance than anything else. The video is quite good, though.

Going by his TNG arc alone (his appearances in DS9 and Voyager were stupid and non-canon imo), Q is trying to help humans become gods like himself by challenging and testing them. Yes, Q is like a trickster god, which is what the concept of Satan was originally, thousands of years ago---Yahweh's trickster assistant, who plays his tricks to teach a lesson, rather than the personification of pure evil.

No, I wasn't thinking about Odin or Puck at all, but good point. Q is a bit like them, too.

Maybe Satan isn't a trickster God, I'll concede that. I had the book of Job in mind, although "adversarial attorney" might be a better description of Satan in that case. Satan punishes Job to prove with God's permission---and that's where similarity to Q comes in, ex. Encounter at Farpoint.

Anyway, Q does have a lot of Devilish and trickster God characteristics. That's what I was trying to say. :-)
