  • Could there be a problem with the power supply? Because I just did the whole process of dissassembly and reflowing and still no success. I'm sorry, I know this is just a prevention vid, but I really want to get my PS3 working again.

  • @Whatheflip13 THIS IS A PREVENTION VIDEO.... NOT A REPAIR VIDEO.

No, it's not the power supply.

  • What size Security bit screw driver did you use? I don't want to have to do that whole "using a flat head" process......

  • @Kregadrekahrn Torx-10

  • my playstation doesn't have memory card slots o.o i bought it in 6-7th month in 2010

  • @MrHaaad It's a model G or H, probably. It's a little easier to disassemble than the E model in my videos.

  • How to do I bring the top off if you have a playstation 3 Slim?

  • @Tom72536 Check for a Slim disassembly vid on youtube. You'll remove 7 silver philips head screws and 3 or 4 black torx screws.

  • my cover wont slide off :(

  • @Born2BeAwesome The cover can get sticky over the years. Try running a credit card around the edge of the outer cover, to be sure it's free.

  • @ChippingPanda Every 2 years after the first cleaning.

  • this actually frightens me, I don't wwanna open mine ( a slim one) and I just wanted to put an arctic thermal paste in it...but you have to tear the whole console apart to do it...sheesh, couldn't they do it like a pc, you unscrew 4 screws on the cooler and bam, there's the processor.

  • @tratorta Yes you must totally disassemble every model PS3 to clean the heat sink.

  • What about replacing the Thernal paste for an Silver alloy?

  • @DonDiego500000 What?

  • My ps3 works but then all of a sudden it freezes and shuts off and the red light blinks wat should i do????

  • @23TRAGEDY Have the GPU reballed. It needs to be properly reattached to the motherboard.

  • Its there an easier way to prevent the ylod without taking my console apart

  • @Freddie2916 No. We believe that dried-out thermal paste is the reason your heat sink can't fully perform it's processor-cooling job.

  • What size hex head is that? For the screw under warranty sticker

  • @Modiesel1286 Torx size 10. It has a security nub in the middle, but we only see 10% that need a Security Torx driver to remove it. Bring the PS3 with you to the hardware store to be sure that you get the right driver.

  • prevent YLOD... let it breath, have a fan near it as well. Dont put it on an enclosed shelf.

  • can you make a ps3 slim repaste thelmal stuff

  • @bayandsl Make a video for it? You can find many Slim PS3 Disassembly videos on youtube. Clean/repaste the same way.

  • @VECTIZ Ok. I've never heard of anyone breaking that clip. It's the motherboard clip that's fragile and hard to close.

  • What if u already have the ylod. How can we fix that ourselves

  • @Capnbeaner You can search for repair videos and carefully do a temporary fix with a heat gun. Hint: ONLY heat the RSX chip.

  • @VECTIZ Next time try paying attention to the part where I EXPLICITLY TELL YOU NOT TO REMOVE THE RIBBON FROM THE MOTHERBOARD so you don't damage the clip. You're welcome.

  • is it realluy this hard to do?

  • @Buzitch It's easy. Follow the steps.

  • I read online that performing this task if your system is not ps2 backward compatible is touch because of the heat sinks not being were they should. Is this true?

  • @Indoside No, it's not true.

  • @MrPS3crazy You don't.

  • @MrPS3crazy Yes, we started seeing YLOD Slim PS3s in January 2011. We recommend cleaning/repasting the Slim heat sink after 1.5 years.

  • this is like an optospsy for a ps3

  • @bulldozerHW :)

  • Thanks for the up load it helped out so much. i got the 160 gb ps3, inside was kind of different it scared me for a bit but i did it. in 4 months will be 3 years so i had to open it. never had a problem with it but it was a good thing i did cause the paste was sooo dry, i replace it and cleaned it too. but after replacing the paste how long do you let it dry before you can turn on the ps3? i'm planning to do this every 2-3 years now.

  • How come my PS3 is still not working as, did step by step you have shown .?

  • @FixItYourself07 Still not working? This is a PREVENTION video, not repair.

  • Will removing my upgraded 400 GB Hard drive for the thermal compound replacement and then putting it back in the system force me to format it and delete it's components?

  • @FullBloodedM No. The system should restart normally after you reassemble it. Be sure to plug the battery back in, if you disconnected it. But you should always MAKE A BACKUP of important data BEFORE system disassembly.... to be safe.

  • @fixmyplaystation how do you know if you are going to get the YLOD? My Ps3 Is making a lot of noise and it does crash sometimes. its in small place and cobwebs and dust do get onto my PS3! Please can you help me.

  • @kitsterino Crashing sometimes is probably just a software issue. You know you're going to get the YLOD if you own a PS3.

  • @fixmyplaystation so basically the YLOD is common? i have had my PS3 for 2 years, and i have never had any problems with it so its quite sad if it breaks now.

  • @kitsterino Extremely common. Slim PS3s should be cleaned after 1.5 years. Old models after 3 years.

  • @fixmyplaystation thank you very much for your help. its good to know people are here to help.

  • @fixmyplaystation is it possible that when u reassemble it. it doesnt turn on or that u lose all youre data or u get data corruption?????

  • @xXG4MERXx1 Anything's possible if you don't reassemble properly.

  • @fixmyplaystation ok thnx mate

  • @xXG4MERXx1 Anything's possible if you don't reassemble properly. But if nothing is broken, nothing should be lost.

  • RESPECT!! ^_^

  • yes it works thank you very much!

  • bloody hell how many screws and components do you undo??

  • @timdog595studios All of them.

  • I noticed you respond to reviews so, I'd like to ask... I'm doing the yellow light fix... Which requires a heat gun. Does this work? And also, can I use a hair dryer instead?

    Thanks!

  • Hi these tutorials also serve who have ps3 slim or the hardware is assembled differently in the two versions? thx

  • @canacrew The slim is different, but the heat sink principle is the same.

  • fixmyplaystation...... My PS3 just got the yellow light of death!! Will this help me if I want to save my hard drive (game saves and all) and do a permanent fix? PLEASE SAY YES!!!! (only if it's true....haha) Thanks!!

  • @AJ72281 Your motherboard must be repaired now. This video shows how to PREVENT the problem.

But repairing the motherboard will save your hard drive data.

  • I just wish that I saw this a year ago, then I could have prevented this whole mess from ever happening. On my 2nd refurb from Sony now after trying the re-flow sucessfully 2 times and then just getting tired of it.

  • dammit. I shoulda studied electronics.

  • @yam83 It's never too late. Wanna buy a PS repair company? :)

  • Those of you with NOISY PS3 models, and want to fix it, use Arctic Silver 5 and your system should run much quieter afterwards. It is better than the cheap stuff some of the processing plants must have put on there.

My PS3 is whisper silent again after applying a coat of arctic silver 5.

Also, if you are concerned about losing track of the screws, consider putting them in separate labeled evelopes with descriptions on where to put them back in to avoid confusion later on.

  • how long does this work??

  • @MrSunshineEmo If you clean the heat sink early enough, you should totally prevent the YLOD.

  • @fixmyplaystation

    thanks :)

  • omg my life sux im forced to move away from friends dnt get my own room took forever to get a tv dnt get to listen to the gameplay and change schools and everyone constant nagging at me my dam ps3 the ps3 ive had for almost 4 years gets the dam ylod!!!!!

  • @fixmyplaystation

Can you please do a tutorial on how to do this on a 40 gb ps3?

By the way I already have the YLOD so is there any way that this will fix it or what can I do?

  • @Ducati5965 More tutorials are coming soon, but the 40GB is actually less complicated to clean.

YLOD is only fixed by repairing or replacing the ~1300 solder balls that hold the RSX processor to the motherboard. We will launch a YLOD Repair Guide soon.

  • @fixmyplaystation

hey can u use any screwdriver to do this

  • How many times a year we should do this ?

  • @Aleschhorn1 Every 2 years should be enough.

  • im not gonna get a ylod, but do u think its necsacary to pen the shit up?

  • @superkm101 Every YLOD PS3 that we receive was manufactured between 2006-2008. After PS3s are 3 years old, they can overheat at any time. That's why we recommend cleaning the heat sink BEFORE overheating causes a $150 problem for you.

  • looks like a 40 gb. theres no card reader.

  • @coolmusicforyou1 Yes there is a card reader at 03:50. This is a CECHA10 or CECHE01. I think it was an E.

  • is this the 80GB ps3?

  • @AgentCell It's either a CECHA01 or CECHE01

  • @fixmyplaystation Oh great I have the CECHE01. So does this mean the ps3 you disassemble in this video is the same one I got?

  • @AgentCell Should be the same. Take your time and note where the screws come out.

  • @fixmyplaystation All right thanks. By the way, I noticed that you didn't use those things that you wear on your wrist to prevent static on electronic equipments. Don't I need one when touching the PS3 motherboard?

  • @AgentCell Not a bad idea.

  • @fixmyplaystation Alrighty I got everything I need and soon I'm going to try to fix my PS3. Thanks for the video uploads. I know it's a video to prevent the PS3 YLOD but my PS3 already have the YLOD. I'm going to attempt to reflow with a heat gun. Do I reflow only the two processors and not the entire circuit board?

  • @AgentCell ONLY reflow the "RSX" processor. The other chips are not involved.

  • @fixmyplaystation Ok and those are the two at the center correct? I'm going to reflow soon.

  • @AgentCell Only the RSX processor should be reflowed... and very carefully.

  • what size will i need to have for the torx screwdriver, t6-t8-t10??? because i need to purchase one, can you help me please?

  • @nbz1992 Should be a T10

  • @fixmyplaystation Thank you !! :-)

  • This guy looks like steve jobs.XD

  • is this how u fix it or just prevent it from happening

  • @BROCKLANDERS93 "Prevent the PS3 YLOD Yellow Light of Death"

  • this has been a great video but i have one major problem I broke the clampdown to the blue ray is there any way to fix it

  • @justplyn2010 In the video we mention that you should only detach the ribbon cable at the drive... not at the motherboard, because it's difficult to reattach without breaking the interface clip.

We're not able to replace broken interfaces.

  • @justplyn2010 i broke mine aswell but i took a peice of gray ducktape and taped it, it now works fine

  • Fans (external or attached intercoolers) are a good idea. But remember that the thermal paste is the key to preventing YLOD. You can have 5 fans under the hood of your car, but it's $10 worth of Prestone that means the difference between driving and walking.

  • I put a few axial fans in the area of my gaming center to help it cool. Two for Intake Two for Exhaust. It also helps coolling if you lay your PS3 flat / horizontally.

  • :) Thanks. When you repair consoles for a living, the drill/screwdriver is a lifesaver. When we have more than 10 units waiting, one of us will open/prep them while the other gets started on cleaning/repairing.

Sorry I didn't understand the original drill question.

  • is a drill really nesicary :) i cant spell

  • What drill?

  • @PS3xxMichael its quicker
