  • wait. Monostatos wasn't black???? this one is whiter than snow (Pamina's description LOL)

  • love it - Monostatos is a perv!

  • Wow, gorgeous. They put the sets in the costumes! Thanks for posting...what a pleasure.

  • Dorothea Röschmann has a voice like velvet, so soft and beautiful.

  • the 'sgt pepper' of opera...

  • Die schlimmsten Kostüme dich ich je bei der Zauberflöte gesehen hab. Mann, ist doch keine Horroroper!

  • LOVE when Papageno and Monostatos meet each other....

  • My father bears a most exacting and amazing resemblence to Keenlyside! I love his serious, aim to please Papageno!

  • Quel papageno sinistre !

Le directeur (metteur en scène) venait-il de se fâcher avec sa femme ?

  • XDXD Pour moi Simon Keenlyside est le meilleur Papageno!! ^^

  • This is creepy....lol

  • I'm very confused with what is happening in this opera. The music is fantastic, but what does this scene, a crazy mother, two birds, some boys and a priest all have to do with. Long live the music though!!

  • Pamina is the daughter of the Queen of the Night, who has an agenda against Osiris who has taken Pamina away from her mother to protect her from her evil influence. However, unbenowst to them, Osiris servant Monostatos is lusting after Pamina and its up to Papageno and Tamino to rescue her from him and the Queen of the Night.

  • Sarastro is the Priest's name, not Osiris...

And personally, this is one of the funniest operas ever. It's like the 18th century version of a drug trip movie!

  • That makes sense?

  • con la acción*

  • Adoro esta opera, la música va en perfecta armonía con acción y las letras :)

  • 2:29 que está hacendo Papageno? / What is Papageno doing?

  • Comprueba si es realmente ella. "Ojos: negros. Sí, negros. Labios: rojos. Sí, negros. Pelo. Pelo, sí, todo encaja".

    xD

  • I listen to Magic Flute every morning and every night. And I'm never, never bored or tired of it.

  • AHA! a litle one! how clever! this opera amazes me more and more each time i watch it!

  • Monostatos is the best

  • There should be a kick ass movie off this musical.

  • well sorry. I take back that comment.

  • Well this opera is sort of like a musical - in a way. It is a type of opera called a singspiel, which involves both singing and spoken dialogue. It is one of the predecessors to early musicals.

  • There's already 2 movies on it---ne by Ingmar Bergman, the other by Kenneth Bergman:)

  • And I like them both!!

More Bergman's I'd say... but nothing beats the original great german version!!! this cast is quite stunning and I love Simon Keelnyside as Papageno ^^

  • Great singing by both, imposing performance by Monostatos. Tks to the poster!

  • which act and scene is this?

  • First act, just after Tamino gets the magic flute.

  • It's Act I Scene 2 (in my libretto at least).

  • omgosh, adrian thompson is my singing teacher at college...woop so good! Marvellous

  • I thaught that Monostatos was a black man?!

  • they changed the lyrics a little bit in this production too to accommodate this change.

  • Who is Pamina? Dorothea Roeschmann?

    Christian

  • It is her.

  • great performance! Lovely!

  • Awesome! Monastatos looks like the bride of Frankenstein with that hair! LOL!

  • Adrian Thompson plays Monostatos to win-- and he certainly does in this production of Die Zauberflote.

  • I agree with you. It's not the best part but he makes a great baddie and sings his part to perfection.

  • woah awesome
