@jimidee33 Oh, please!! Listen to Sonny Til's lead on the original recording. Elvis was good, but couldn't touch Sonny's voice with a ten foot quaalude! These Orioles are OK, but are a mere shadow of the original group. Of course, there's no accounting for taste ...
@GumatzPotrzebie Okay I will check it out again. I always associate the song with Elvis as it is the first version I remember. It has some connection to my past and that can be a powerful thing. I am open minded however.
Early Country & Western favorite, Darrell Glenn, first recorded this classic, which was written by Artie Glenn. Later June Valli recorded it, as did The Orioles. Beautiful song, but it should be known that this was a Country & Western tune originally.
Come on people, give these singers a break! Of course no one is going to sound EXACTLY LIKE the original lead vocalist, of any song. Damn, can't you negative folks just have fun and enjoy the music??? Keep going Orioles!! Thanks for posting the song.
Diz Russell has been an Oriole on and off since 1954 and holds the trademark to the name and keeps the sound of the Orioles alive. So this is not phony a group of imposters and yes he and his wife Millie are 2 of the nicest people anyone could ever meet. Im very good friends with them and have stayed over their house in Maryland many times.
Your point??? 55 years later is kinda hard to find original members of most '50s groups. All that matters is the music lives on. The only imposter is someone who doesn't recognize good music and gets sidetracked by non-issues
Loved it.

They are great on this song, but nobody puts the emotion into this tune like Elvis. He "owns" this song.

I just heard the original version by the Orioles for the first time, and I love it much more than Elvis' version.
