I'm tired of this Abe Lincoln jive. I'm looking for a $7,500 collapsible, shippable cube (dat's right—minimalist baby!) made of polycarbonate glass and steel or amalgam. Put down a 20 x 20 slab o' concrete, unfold the sucker, plug in a water line, and add some solar collectors. Bingo. Anyone know of such a kit?
It's a cabin not a home. Some of us think of a cabin as a way to ruff it, be in the wild. Bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms take away the effect of a cabin. If it where a permanent living structure then I understand the need for those things. I'm happy in my Kelty trail dome. This to me would be awesome!
For anyone who can't read, this is called a kit. If you buy and assemble one, you are allowed to insulate, paint, carpet or whatever you choose. You are also allowed (it is yours, remember) to put up walls or partitions if you please. You could also plumb and wire it as you wish. Also, it does not have to include such amenities as bathroom and kitchen, this is a cabin, you see.
@1999chaztheman Yeah, first thing I saw too. The interior walls shown between the studs are actually the inside of the exterior lumber. You would roast in summer and freeze in the winter in this thing. Looks cute in virtual, but totally fails in reality. No Bathroom, no kitchen. Waste of time unless you like to be lightly entertained.
@BeachBabeSanDiego I already had designed and hand built my 3,000 s.f. structure before, now I designed 12' x 36' pre-drilled house ( full bath, full kitchen, two 12;'x12' bedrooms, living-dining room with cathedral ceiling, 10" and 6" insulation all around.) for the poor down in Haiti and New Orleans, and let them tighten the bolts together themselves. They have plenty of time down there ! And you do not need to be a carpenter to build the house for yourself ! George Wu, AIA 2012-1-13
FYI the music is by Craig Chaquico and Ozzie Ahers

I've seen better designed garden sheds, no kitchen, no bedroom, no toilet and worst of all NO INSULATION!!!

How is it heated? Looks like there is no insulating mechanisms either. Hard to stay warm in the mountains I'd say.

Good working concept. However, I think the pitch is too low to be functional and simply looks 'cheap' like a trailer or other manufactured product.

Maine cabin or a little guest house? Looks nice. Wondor if it could be added onto a mobile home?

need a grill and an outhouse for this cabin.
xXxWritersWingsxXx 1 year ago
@xXxWritersWingsxXx don't think it could really be called a cabin, more like a shed if you ask me

i would make a house like this but add like bathrooms and a upstairs
narutogum22 1 year ago
Really nice size, but again DAMN, how about using "logs" in a log cabin. I hate this prefab crap!!
cresidue 2 years ago
It's too small, there is no where to cook and I think the upper area could be better done to provide a sleeping area.

cool little cabin
lescar88 2 years ago
how could we heat it? I think a ceiling rafter would need to be removed for a wood buring stove pipe or chimney pipe.

great, lets put these things right on the wildlife corridor - like those other buidlings on Grassi Peaks.
