@streamgaze Abyssinian breeders tried for years to eliminate longhairs from showing up in litters, until one UK breeder had a cat returned to her who had turned out to have a long coat. She thought he was stunning, and with others interested in these longhair Abys decided to propose a "Long-Haired Abyssinian" breed. Other Aby breeders insisted that the longhairs absolutely could not be called 'Abyssinian', so she came up with 'Somali' since Somalia borders Ethiopia (formerly Abyssinia).

People who are saying that Somali cats are not from Somalia are just Idiotic SERIOUSLY. Why would anyone name a cat after a country it is not from? Somali cats are indigenous to Somalia and when the European colonists like the Italians, British and the French came to Somali they loved these cute cats so much they deported some to their countries to breed them. That is why there are a lot of European breeders of Somali cats today. Anyways to the poster of this video LOVE the cat it is so CUTE.

@SAHRA125 where are u getting this so-called history?? i've read their history and they were named somali cats because somalia is near ethiopia, which used to be called abyssinia, the country after which abyssinian cats were named. since somali cats are descendents of abyssinian cats they named them with a country close to ethiopia! do your research.

So i might have been wrong in my first post. I have seen these kind of cats before back i Somalia. That is why i said what i said before. Anyways i have done my research and now i know that they are a mix. Who cares where they are from anyways, they are beautiful cats.
