This is very beautiful music <3. I love it from 1:37 man, what a beautiful sound and very excellent expression <3. Hearing guys like this play makes me really want to get it. It ain't going to happen over night that's for sure ;-)
Coming off of playing this piece in my own recital, this is a very interesting performance to hear. Quite enjoyable, and I like that the soloist has a unique and individualized approach to the piece. Sorry it isn't quite the same as everyone else's performance of it.
i think he plays a bach stradivarius, but it still isn't the best intrument! ideal for beginners but a little thin when used professional... if you like bach you should try 42a with hagmann free flow valve! that really is a great instrumnet! otherwise try schagerl!
I don't think so. If you play a g sharp in first it should sound flat. I think he just uses 3 it is hard to tell as the music does not line up with the video exactly.
lindberg is a musical freak show - he doen't even sound like a trombone when he plays. yes his technique is almost otherworldly but who cares when you sound like sh*t
He is a very good player love his intensity and interpretation, his vibrato is very controlled. kinda reminds me of Nitzan Harroz (principal trombone of the Philly Orch) but still pic Nitzan
1:23 When he's got the low winds underneath him on the Db. Oh man. I melted a little on the inside. It was the best thing I've ever heard on trombone. The end of that phrase, right at 1:20 is fantastic. The way the strings come in, and his sound right there are so complimentary. Excellent composition and excellent interpretation/execution.
yes, you would know this recording immediately. I have used this recording to improve my playing. I have a video up of me playing along with this video.
I liked how Lindberg always memorized his versions. Sure this guy is great, but if you put this recording into a hat with everyone elses, could you pick it out and say, that's Rijen? You'd know lindberg's immediately. That's the big difference. You'd probably know Alessi's too (which one has no vibrato and sound almost fake it's so clean).
Some times Lindberg sounds like hes nervous when uses his vibrato, it gets in the way of the basic T-bone sound, imho, this guys sound is clean but, Alessi almost uses no vibrato, so maybe its like comparing green apples to red apples, I like every kind of apple if you know what I mean!
vibrato varies depending on where you're from and what style you play. Lindberg is Swedish, and European vibrato is much faster and the trombone sound is much brighter. American trombone vibrato usually comes later in the tone (this is a jazz influence i believe) and a darker sound is preferred. They are both wonderful though, right?! :D
Who cares who's better? They're both better than you'll ever be.
And considering that Alessi is over 20 years older than Van Rijen, I'm willing to bet money that since Jörgen is fairly young and still improving, he will be the better player in the near future.
@Seibukan76 who stuck bees down your pants? you took this way too literally and you need to chill out. You're first comment is completely irrelevant because no one (NOT EVEN YOU since you're so keen on insulting me) will be as good as Joe or Jorgen. My first comment never implied that Joe was better. I was just saying that I preferred Joe's Grondahl to Jorgen's. Whenever I practice the Grondahl, I use Joe's recording as reference. Does that mean I don't like Jorgen, OF COURSE NOT! hes great
Thank you for the correction! That was my mistake, I threw that out there without knowing for sure. Hopefully you weren't too offended by what I said, and if you were, I'm sorry.
And who are you to challenge me in front of everyone here? You have absolutely no idea who I am and you couldn't care less if I actually DID post a video of me playing so don't try and pull that with me. Look, I offered my opinion, you disagreed, now you're entitled to your opinion as I am mine, so leave me alone.
Wow, thank you, you don't comment at all about what you don't like about what I said, you just attack me directly. I was offering my opinion, clearly, it wasn't well received, but at least have the decency to not leave the comment "you're an idiot" without at least telling me why you think so. Jerk.
Okay. You're an idiot because you suggested an instrument change to one of the best musicians in the world, who is also the principal trombonist in one the best orchestras on the planet.
Then you delete your comment. Obviously you agree with the replies, or you're just too embarrassed to stick to your conventions.
This is one of the reasons so few professionals give away a FREE performance or post a recording. Because people like you will make pointless and uninformed negative comments.

Beautiful tone and incredible technique. The interpretation was a bit different than what you would usually hear, especially pertaining to articulation, but the performance was still impressive.

It's hard to play for violin lol (but maybe it wouldn't be so hard if I would practise sometimes ^^)
So many people in my orchestra don't like the concert. Probably because it's a complete other style than what you play normally.
I think it's totally underrated.
