Again I shall repeat my previous comments, another wonderful collage of a one of the wives of Henry VIII. The music needs no comment, the tittle is perfect for this wife!
Although i must comment that quite a few photos of little Kitty make her look...fat!!!
Some say Catherine Howard died at 22, some say she died at 19, and others(this surprised me greatly) say she died at 16. Its shocking. And anyways Thomas Howard Catherines uncle, knew she wouldnt have a son because Henry was too old, so he made Jane Boleyn tell her it was okay to take of with Thomas Culpeper.
This song is haunting and beautiful-I love it! It's perfect with this tribute to yet another of Henry VIII's victims they tragic Queen Katherine Howard.
She had lots of lovers both before and after she married Henry VIII and she was very young.
But somehow, the very few illustrations of her don't really show her looking beautiful and really young. Even Anne of Cleves seems to look better in the pictures we see of her.
I think this Katherine was the most tragic of all the wives.
Same here!! I had no idea it was Ritchie Blackmore behind "Blackmores Night". I thought this song was written perhaps in Elizabethan times after most of the Tudors had died! They've got some great songs. :)
Poor girl didnt deserve that. She wasnt innocent but she was so young & pretty & gone way before her time. Almost makes ya wish you can go back in time as the terminator & save her
I have to say though, I do admire the way Katherine of Aragon passes on her determination and spirit to Mary Tudor and teaching her that she is the true princess of England. It impresses me :)
by 17 catherine of aragon had been married, discarded and was struggling to hold her own in england where she was not strictly wanted. 17 was not too young for a girl to manage and know not to play around. it WAS too young for kitty H to marry 50 year old henry tho. but she wasn't 'unconscious'
Henry Mannox was made her music teacher and the musician of her household at Lambeth Palace. There she and him had a love affair when she was ages 11-15 years of age. When she became queen he was appointed the musician of her household and then later gave evidence against her at her beheading. She never denied their relationship.
She did briefly have a relationship with him after becoming Queen but as i say, it was only brief. Never the less it was an affair which later for "put aside" for her affair with Dereham, bit more after that and to cut it short Mannox did admit to the affair while she was Queen, Henry knew of their affair before the marriage, then found out the latter due to (sorry can't find her name) but the same lady who helped with discarding Anne Boleyn, and other sources.
Sorry I do apologise the affair with Dereham lasted until she was lady in waiting for Anne of Cleves *apologies*, it must have been Mannox, Dereham, Mannox, then Culpepper. The lady i refered o earlier was infact Jane Boleyn (Viscountess Rochford), tried to help against Anne Boleyn's execution, then helped annul Henrys marriage with Anne of Cleves and finally the execution of Queen Howard when she let the affair between Catherine and Culpepper 'slip'.
There is no harm in stating what I or you know. I thought it was clear from my previous post (which had past about Viscountess Rochford in it), hence why I corrected you that I did. Never the less it's a useful reminder for others researching it :) I now that when I researched her as the "Boleyn girl" it was quite hard until I found a very detailed website.
* When I very first researched her I assumed this "Boleyn girl" was a sister of Mary and Anne, in the end it turned out to be Georges's wife! I admittedly only researched her originally because I wanted to know who the woman was who incriminated Anne for adultry with her brother, turned out to be his wife. Not sure how I feel about that, but anyway, that was why I originally researched the topic :)
ok, the point was i'd only read the post where'd u'd forgot her name, and not the further one. have u read 'the other boleyn girl'? it's a bit fanciful in places and inaccurate in others (a very few others admittedly) but charactariese Jane Boleyn as deliciously nasty
No, I read the reviews on the book (which first got me interested because it didn't add up for Mary or Anne) then when I went to buy it found it was not very historically accurate and searched for her on the web instead :) Do you recommend it?
i'd recommend it if u want a nice read in the tudor setting. its certainly a good story, but yes, historically inaccurate which sometimes grates a little (eg Mary Boleyn was not married to W. Carey before she slept with Henry, but the book says she was). Its sympathetic to her and pretty damning to anne. its also slightly over sentimental to catherine of a, but that might be my own prejudice
true - but she still knew that the last queen accused of adultery had been executed. nearly no one wanted to marry henry because it was felt he was too dangerous a husband. once she had married him it was ncredibly stupid to actually cheat on him for real
I think she was a good Mistress but no queen just too young & too immature but times were different then & like Iloveyoutoo once said she wasnt too young to not know adultery=beheaded theres also the arguement that She was just trying to get pregnant & give the king a son but i dont give her that much credit
I love this song and I feel bad for poor Catherine. Having her family marry her off to someone old enough to be her father, who was fat and ugly . No wonder she cheated on him.
Henry was a total hypocrite! While he was married, he fooled around with other women, he had other mistresses on the side. Then again, he was a king, AND he was a man he could get away with that. Now because Catherine Howard did the exact same thing AND because she's a female, she gets beheaded while Henry got off scot-free? Talk about a typical, hypocritical double standard!
Catherine fooled around before marriage tho. She was silly not to change her ways - it was perfectly alolowed for men to fool around but she would have known she couldn't. However its highly likely that she was desperate to get pregnant for Henry and he wasn't up to it. Historians think this was one of the reasons she did it, and it would save her from seeming like a complete idiot
Sad? I suppose. I doubt she wanted to marry him, but was instead doing as her family told her. but he was very much in love and lust with her and whilst she had his favour she had amazing gifts. she was foolish to risk that
Yes, before she came to Henry's attention she had an affair with her musician teacher i believe, when the mistress of the house was due to return they were going to marry. I do also believe that he came back to her when she was Queen and they continued the affair, love?
no, she did have an affgair with the music teacher but she broke it off in favour of Thomas Culpepper, sho was a gentleman. Before she met Henry their pet names for each other were 'wife' and 'husband' and they certainly enjoyed the physical aspect of married life, without being married. she carried on with him after marrying henry, not the music teacher
I think any 15 year-old girl would have cheated on a man of Henry's age and looks, she just wasn't careful enough. They've found written evidence of her affair(s).She was the type of girl, who wanted to have fun.And we can agree it's not surprising for a girl so young. But Henry did think that a girl of this age could truly love him.Not a wise thought...
I dont know what to say about her She was a plaything Why wasnt Henry content 2 just play Why make her queen? did he really think this child could withstand her enemies at court Did he really see a queen in this silly girl?
she was henry's second to last wife and supposedy beautiful...but she was a totaly slut. but she has a better sid then henry, i would have had the affair with thomas culpepper if i married an impotent, hippocritical bastard who had KILLED MY COUSIN AND HIS WIFE!!!!!!!
this song is good.. and blackmore's night rox... richie blackmnore is a very talented guitarist to play music like smoke on the water and music like this.... all of u who don like him writing songs like dis can go burn in hell lol... he n his wife rock..... lurv their music
well to be fair, if your 15 would you really marry a 49-year old man? but she had no choice.. sad, she wasn't clever like her cousin, Anne Boleyn, who by far her and Catherine of Aragon were the cleverest of Henry's wives. Jane Seymour was thick and dull, Anne of Cleves foreign, Katherine Howard silly but Catherine Parr educated.
None of Henry's wives had a choice-in those days from Royalty, to Nobility you were pretty much a pawn-a piece of someone's political chess game. Anne of Cleves being foreign doesn't mean she was uneducated-she was shrewd enough to accept her annulment from Henry (I would have-in a heartbeat!) she likely considered it a dream to be free of the smelly old bloodthirsty lecher-and with a nice castle, and alot of money, jewels, etc. To me she had the best deal of all Henry's wives.
well actually she was humiliated for being divorced and wasnt allowed to go back to her family which broke her heart. i bet she wouldve given up all that stuff to just go back to germany.
Poor Catherine Howard. she did not knew how to be enought good, strong, queen she just wanted riches and wealth and elegant stuff and besides men...this was her failure.
pore thing compleat pawne to here unculs but compleatly stupid i meen given henrys past wives track record shourly evion the dumbist blomd would know do not two time this guy its not worth it
so was anne, but shewas the most powerful, maybe not the luckiest or the smartest, but she got there through catalina. she had been hrough so much before henry divorced her
I still can't believe it's Ritchie Blackmore behind this song!! Who knew my interest in the Tudors would lead me to this lovely, haunting song-and now and interest in Blackmore's group-or should I say troupe "Blackmore Night". :)
Bueno me falto explicar que lo considero exelente por que desarrolla el tema medieval en la musica ya que transmite mas que armonia sino que te traslada a una epoca de antaño.
The picture at 0:50 ? Is that before she is going to die? Because Anne Boleyn has one just like it; all in white, hair kept in a white hat.
