The announcer said "the speed at which oxygen burns". But he was DUMB, because oxygen combining with stuff is what burning is. To burn oxygen would mean combining oxygen with other oxygen and that just doesn't happen (except when a lightning bolt strikes). But that is a slow reaction to make ozone (which doesn't even like to be ozone so it quickly breaks down to regular oxygen). What actually happened here was the rubber balloon burned so fast (because of the oxygen) that the balloon exploded.
"...due to the speed at which Oxygen combusts...."? Ack. Like others have said, there has to be a FUEL. I suppose the balloon's rubber itself, or the tin foil might serve as the fuel. but I'm still skeptical. Brainiac has been called on on fakery before. Google "sky's limit for big bangs" for more of their shennanigans.
punxonly123 u are a leg end these fuckin morons obviously dont no there arse from there elbow fuckin retards really wot happens when u blow on a fire der it burns better.
Um, no it isn't. It's an oxidizer, which combines with a fuel to burn. Which is why I'm pretty skeptical of Brainiac's explanation of what is going on here.
Highly-concentrated sources of oxygen promote rapid combustion. Fire and explosion hazards exist when concentrated oxidants and fuels are brought into close proximity; however, an ignition event, such as heat or a spark, is needed to trigger combustion.[89] Oxygen itself is not the fuel, but the oxidant.

is there a way to get oxygen, pure oxygen in a balloon by itself? it doesnt work unless i hook up the other hose to the propane. any help please.

It has to be some sort of fuel - oxygen cannot burn by it self.
But it doesn't have to be a very explosive fuel to explode in the pure oxygen

i have tried that its so cool!!! but i was alittle to close to it. i am sure that it will be the last time i do that.-_-'

the aluminum made the spark

fucking idiots it burns better because you are oxidising the fuel...fuel cant burn without oxygen...oxygen cant burn without a fuel source

You guys are retarded. Why do you think a fire burns. If you get a concentration pure oxygen and ignight it......BOOM

oxygen isn't flamable! it's an oxydiser! it reacts with a flamable material like a hydrocarbon and creates combustion.
neutron301 4 years ago
oxygen is VERY flammable!?

Are you sure there was only oxygen in it and nor rather a mixture with oxygen and a flamable gas?

Oxygen *is* a flamable gas.
