Now I enjoy life as it is and we make it. At least Caribou has jobs within reason verses my town where politics of small buisness and some close minded people dictate what comes in the town. I have been to many places like Germany, England, France, also states like California, Washington, New Jersey and many others. Still I came back to a peaceful and less crime area wher i can walk the streets with out loosing friends to bullets or gangs. Yes, Maine has it's problems but that is life.
You do have some good points about some places in Northern Maine about Mooses, very little jobs, High Taxes and Many young kids that have no future thanks to the politicians of our local governments but Maine does have many good points, good hunting and fair in fishing. We do have many good people that are very friendly and are hard workers ( the ones that do have a job). I am from a more rural place then Caribou, called Madawaska. I to left Maine years ago to seek a new life. But came back.

Lived in Maine from 2006-2008, during the snowiest winter on record (about 192 inches for the season total) -- and it is *hands down* the most miserable, close-minded, resistant to growth, and unfortunate excuse for a town I've ever had to live in. They are the lack of health care insurance that jobs will not provide to employees and their families. We go to canada for something that our own reactionary country usa has refused ( maine is not to blame )
I just couldnt handle country life. It is fine for those that are used to it, but me, growing up in a major city with rush hour, lots of malls, shopping, restaurants,places open 24/7 etc,. I couldnt deal with it. They locals also looked at me quite strangely when I would eat out there and asked for Ranch Dressing for my salad. Thay didnt even know what it was. Then theyed say "They're from away." meaning that we werent locals, and we got snubbed even more. A yucky place to be!

Not a damn thing to do, NO movie theatres NO jiffy Lubes...a "mechanic" in the town of Caribou told me I needed to purchase a brand new radiator for my car, when I in fact KNEW it just needed to be drained, cleaned and flushed, new fluid also...That MFr tried to rip me off big time. I just went to the gas station on base and had it done there.
The ironic thing is, I was looking for videos of Caribou because we are planning to move to nothern Maine in 2012. In our visits we find Maine a wondeful place. We currently live in East Tennessee and it is home. But I can't wait to get to Maine!
