going with my parents to see this at the movies i thought it would suck ass,(i was 12 or 13 yrs old) it turned out to be one of my all-time favortie movies & if i see it now i cant turn it off. So wonderful.
Jane Fonda used all her power and all her money to buy an Academy Award for her father in yet another breathtaking performance that the Academy could not ignore for once. Henry Fonda should have gotten the nod for the Grapes of Wrath, or Twelve Angry Men or Mister Roberts and whatever Jane had to do to bring it about that time more power to her. He was one of the greatest English speaking actors that ever lived.
if you would be so kind, dave's version of hoe down is the most extraordinary rendition i've ever heard. i can't find it anywhere though, and i was wondering if you could post it? it would be greatly appreciated. subbed.
There is something to take away from all this. In 1967, Katharine Hepburn made Guess Who's Coming to Dinner with Spencer Tracy. After the movie was released, Spencer Tracy died. In 1975, Katharine Hepburn made Rooster Cogburn (sequel to True Grit) with John Wayne. One movie later, John Wayne died. In 1981, Katharine Hepburn made On Golden Pond with Henry Fonda. A year later, Henry Fonda died. The lesson is that if you're old, DON'T MAKE A MOVIE WITH KATHARINE HEPBURN!
My favorite is Kathryn Hepburn - the old shaking lady - singing and dancing all by herself in the woods while picking up berries...the human being at its best... what an amazingly expressive lady Kathryn was..
@ramblingredrose13 Look on the right side and you'll see Video Categories. On the right of Video Categories you'll see Halloween with a pumpkin. Above Halloween is Square Eyes Blog and above that is Movies. Some movies are blocked and after 74 min the movie shuts off and says come back in 54 min. On youtube if a part is missing or the audio is deleted somethimes Blinkx has it. Let me know if you find it.
If I recall correctly in reading, Kate did her own stunt of swimming and diving in the boat wreck part in Purgatory Cove, fully clothed. Kate is one tough act to follow and then she must have been in her 70's looking decades younger.
I think of this performance as a very special Movie performance for Jane Fonda and Henry Fonda I think Jane Should have won her third Academy and Joined two of the greatest actor and actress is history Jack Nicholson, and Ingrid Bergman. I Think that family is a Family Of Talent and still One to be rekend with i hope Peter wins a Academy Award Like His Sister and Father and i also hope for his daughter Bridgett Fonda and Jane's Children
Norman was a nasty old man. He ridiculed his young daughter and caused her to have an eating disorder. Ethel is just an enabler. Even at the end when Chelsea says "I could never do a back flip. I was too fat. Remember?" Norman laughs and says he does remember. How cruel. Ethel says, "here we go again. Your father was cruel, your mother ignored you. " They were nasty to her. Norman never apologized for ridiculing Chelsea. Bitter old man.
I watched this whole movie about a year ago with Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn. I loved it and now I wanted to watch it again, but it only has bits and pieces. I love Julie Andrews, but I did not enjoy her version of "On Golden Pond". It was terrible!!!! I would love to see the movie put back on here with Henry Fonda.
My favorite movie, period. Jane Fonda went a little overboard with her character but she's still the right pick and it worked well with her dad. Dabney Coleman is priceless!
I couldn't go to sleep last night so I figured if I turned on Turner Classic Movies that I would. Unfortunately for me, I found this film and watched it beginning to end. The movie really isn't my type of movie, but this was a special exception :D
on golden pond should of been on AFI's top 100 films list it has the fondas father and daughter and katherine hepburn but on top of that it relates to so many of us i have had the same conversation with my family and been just as dissapointed!
If this isn't life at it's truest, I don't know what is. What a classic film, but don't laugh too hard at them, because we will ALL be there someday......

@foofwolf22 Are you kidding. That spoiled little liberal bitch disappointed her father and backstabbed her country.
She did everything possible to destroy the reputation and morality of the United States of america.
She posed with wasplike glee with a north vietnamese anti-aircraft crew who were responsible for the deaths of dozens of american servicemen.
When this communist liberal shitbag dies i will make a special holiday to travel to her gravesite and piss on her headstone.

You'll find that that sort of thing is prevelant in lots of relationships between child and father, especially men of Norman's era.
