  • Great memories.. mam & dad blasted planxty for years!

  • "Teacht saggart" i think may be the line instead of tassaggart to clonmor. Teacht saggart is the original name for Saggart co Dublin.

  • why is it called county carlow when the original PRONUNCIATION is Cahher Loch which means Four Lakes or Quadruple Lake?

    carlow means nothing.

    CAHHER LOCH HAS A MEANING.

USE IT. REVIVE IRISH THIS WAY.

GO DEE SHINN, GO NYREE ON BOEHHER LIV GOLLAIRE OGGUS POGUE MO HOWEN MORE. ISH MISHE CATLICK. CONNUS TAW TWO, MO CORRA? ON WILL TO GO MAW?

TAW MAY EGG DULL GO DEE ON LECKTRACASS.

  • Great song, thanks for posting and putting the lyrics up. By the way, at 1:51 it sounds to me more like "White is sick, Grey is fled, now for black Fitzwilliam's head" (rather than "Lane is fled"). Arthur Grey, 14th Baron Grey de Wilton, led the English force, which did flee. Plus, lyrically you get that nice White, Grey, Black thing going on ...

  • @mrmattquinn You're right..I don't know how I couldn't have heard that. Sorry guys!

  • @mrmattquinn You're spot on. It's "Grey is fled", and flee he did. Despite being wickedly outnumbered, Fiach managed to lead the English troops through a pass in Wicklow where his archers were high in the woods looking down. I'm from that part of the country.

  • you cant beat some elvis

  • "Follow Me Up to Carlow" one of my favorite irish folk songs.

  • I'm not a violent man, but whenever i hear this song i just want to grab a pitchfork or other sharp farming tool and march on the Pale! Great song! I like how it can emote the desire to pitchfork English people even in the most pacifist of individuals....

  • @fleminnj its called race memory. some where deep down your ancestors are controlling your actions.

  • @daveeol I'm only half Irish, and I love the old Rebel songs. The other half is English, so maybe I had 2 sets of ancestors fighting on different sides at Carlow.

Doesn't detract from a good tune though.

  • who ever the one person who disliked this video just why ???????

  • An Anam Na Héireann !

    That what this song is!!

  • a bhanrion

  • A halbert is a long heavy axe. It could be used to pull a man from a horse, but I think it was used even more often by foot against foot. During extrememely grusome "push-pike" warfare, once the lines collided, men and pikes could be squished almost to the point of imobility. To break these stalemates, strategically placed halbardiers would lop the ends off of enemy pikes (or enemy limbs and heads when possible). Typically, there would be far fewer halbardiers than pikemen.

  • I LOVE this song...anyone know what a "halbard" is?:?:

  • @Sidcup12 its another name for a kind of pike used mainly for dragging men off horses

  • @Sidcup12 Mate a halber (Silent T)Its a weapon about 14 feet long with a long blade and with a hooked blade.Hope that helps mo chara

  • @billyhunchback True, but it's "halberd"

  • Feels like Daggerfall (The Elder Scrolls II)

  • Its about my ancestors fight with Queen Lizzie the first! And at Kinsale!
