@oplatre I actually think that they did a great job for a high school. I understand that this was certainly an ambitious choice, but they maintained their key and the incredibly difficult polyrhythmic section was well-executed. to say that they didn't do well on this is a huge criticism. it's obvious that it wasn't perfect. but within the high school realm of choral music, this is A-level work.
this choir has no character to it. its all sound! the song sounds good except a little pitchy at points. but very good. only thing is that there is no feeling in it. some of the girls look like they are at boot camp.
Anyone who uses the term "pitchy" can't possibly be a reputable critic..perhaps you should be a judge on American Idol where this term is used so ineptly. . North Central is one of the finest HS choral programs in the country. I suppose winning the Indiana state championship year in and year out only happens to choirs that have "no character to it".. I suggest you engage your brain before making such ridiculous comments.
i did say very good did i not? i dont doubt the sound quality of the program what so ever. facial expressions and maybe alil bit of movement would make the choirs image abit more appealing. and i think someone who's choir is competing in langollen this year would be entitled to any form of commenting a fellow choir. find something better to do than BS on youtube please =]
If only you knew how complicated this song was.......12 parts............it takes a lot of focus and control...........you can't always smile during a piece
i know how hard this piece is, my choir is singing it this year, and i dont recall twelve parts seeing as how the voicing is SSAATTBB. i know its a hard song and ive only heard one amazing recording of it done by the BYU Chambers.
that was really good! i just graduated from Goshen High School, and i was in the advanced choir for 3 years and i remember this. you guys were excellent. i really thought we had you this year... but congrats :)

wow. bravo for a great interpretation of this difficult work :)
i've seen much worse from higher level choirs, even.

Pitchy is a word to describe things that are all over the place pitch wise.
I don't see how people condemn the word when it is just a new word, like any other word that people make up.
Get over it, seriously.
Anyways, this choir didn't have the tone that I think they should have. It sounded fine but they could have had a bit taller vowels and other things.
But good overall

i also hate the 'term' pitchy, especially in american idol.. gloria is not a musician. haha.

The term pitchy is used by Erik Whitacre himself... just thought that i would let you know that before you say things like that to people.
but everthing else i do agree with
