We tens to pick up the slang and humour from the people we work with and are surrounded by. I have forgotten what my accent used to sound like , but its so Australian now that the few South Africans I bump into mistke me for being an Aussie. When I ask them wher do they come from they tell me and I say Ah yes I know that place, or I have been there or lived there ( Durban ). And they reply saying you sound like and Australian- well you would do after living here 30 years !

I lived in Australia since 1992 and still have a very STRONG accent :-)... I will never loose it...

After living in Australia for 30 years now I have lost my South African accent - pity, as Ioved taking the piss out of the Aussies.

@steinwaygrande1 i,m in Ireland and my SA accent is almost gone,so i,m thinking to go to SA for a year or so then come back ha ha ha

@eugene8910 Yes I know the feeling. Its a pity we lose our accent after being away from "home" for so long. I`m hoping to go back next year in May
