i just discovered it, so im not an expert, but ska is like fast paced reggae-rock

@snones7 ska was the predecessor to reggae, along with rocksteady. ska became popular in england during their punk movements formation... which was the 2nd wave of ska (aka 2-tone, revival). the 90's stuff is 3rd wave ska. it's not really about the speed, but it got faster as time went on. origional ska is pretty slow. the common thing are the muted downstroke, short upstroke on the even counts for guitar. walking baselines. and some brass. try prince buster and the specials for wave 1 and 2.
