I don't think its spanish, I think its french if I'm not mistaken. "Viva la France" translates to long live France, so "viva la vida" would be "long live life."

Spanish is my first language. Its literally translated as Live the Life but its meaning is more like Long Live Life. Just because it is the literal translation does not mean that it the true meaning behind it. Alright, why don't we jsut settle this argument? Firstly, regardless of what language you choose, "Viva la Vida" should translate to "Live the Life." Frankly, it's in Spanish. The cover art is of French descent, though the titles are of Hispanic origin. Take the lyrics of the song in their metaphorical sense and the song comes out as a man who lost his girlfriend (or perhaps best friend?) And speaking of his past "power" and his current lack thereof. Idk about Napolean. Maybe Chris Martin?
