This was a really scary quake for me, all the ones up until this time were kind of fun, but this one meant business, it is hard to believe it has been 21 years already.
I was in a 8th floor of a 13 floor high rise in Santa Clara working as a recruiter and I had a bad feeling all day and was waiting to quit my job pacing the floor around my desk cause the owner put off my meeting to tell her to shove it. Next thing I knew it felt like the building was toppling over and litteraly shifted backand forth 15 feet or so. I looked outside the window and saw 2 foot waves rolling along the ground and saw a large elm tree flapping back and forth 45 degrees. Awesome
My cousin was killed in this. He was one of the last ones pulled out, he was found on the Saturday after it hit. He was innitially identified by the license plate on his van, is what my sister told me. He left behind three young sons.
i read tim had the steering wheel on his stomach and lower down and said it was like being kicked in the guts for hours til he was freed. other survivors wer buck helm and the youg boy, who lost a leg, and his sister-forgot thier names.. was there on the parkway on 10/04/09 and was at the memorial "15 seconds".
I was freaken 10 years old, standing behind my brother's car; which was parked on the driveway. All of a sudden I felt the car move, thinking to myself that my brother went crazy and was trying to run me over. Moved in time, to witness a parked vehicle roll down to street and roll back up to the drive way (like an amusement park ride). Our electronic garage door was being slammed up and down viciously. And down the block, I could see a freeway overpass totally collapsed. Scary sh*7t!!!! :D
I remember this. I live in Seattle, but my Grandma lives in Gilroy so my mom was freaking out trying to get ahold of her. So sad and scary. I can't imagine what it was like. I know we have earthquakes here too, but nothing compared to how bad it is in Cali.
I was 13 & living in San Bruno when the LP earthquake hit, just a couple of blocks from the San Andreas fault line. I'll never forget the sheer terror & sadness of that day. We too could not get a hold of my Dad who worked downtown. He was finally able to get home a little before 10 & thankfully was perfectly fine. The hours of not knowing were horrible though!
I remember this like it was yesterday.. Oct 17, 1989 @ 5:05pm. My Father worked in Emeryville and was stuck @ work and we couldn't reach him all night very traumatic. You could'nt reach anyone the phones would all say "ALL CIRCUITS BUSY" I was 17.. am 37 now.
I was searching for the band...LOL!
