  • What the hell was that Jay?

who gives a fuck if there's no tom cruise to sell the movie at the box office, Craig is more believable in these gritty roles

the whining about not knowing who to root for is a pretty childish argument.

I do disagree with Mike about the character development too; with such a massive story to draw from there has to be extensive character development to have any emotional weight when the story picks up. but at least his complaint was reasonable, it was quite long

  • You need to start a 3KB book club and read the original novel. That's where the magic is at.

  • I like that this movie is different. i LIKE that it was a very detailed movie with a lot of character development. I LIKE that it didn't have a Tom Cruise in it to "sell the movie". It seems like in this day and age all popular big hit movies are 10 second adrenaline films with no heart. I like that this movie was different.

  • I always agree with Mike, Jay makes no sense.

  • I'm pretty sure Daniel Craig and Robin Wright are both huge stars, with Rooney Mara stealing the thunder from BOTH of them. I actually liked this version more than the Swedish one (though it's not a remake), simply because I felt like Rooney gave Lisbeth more depth than Noomi did. I'm actually hoping she wins the oscar for it, though she'll probably lose to Streep or Williams due to political influence. I'm just glad that unlike this review implied, the Oscars kind of did "fly at this thing."

  • "The problem of the film is that there is no big star, there isn't the 'Tom Cruise' of the situation". IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. NOW STFU.

  • "It's not like Oscars are gonna fly at this thing". 5 nominations later...

  • Lol. I thought Benjamin Button was Fincher's weakest movie (besides Alien 3).

  • @BrokenStylo Amen.

  • She said, "Lisbeth Mara"...

  • mikes face is beautiful

    :3

  • In the book series the entire first book is a platform for the actions of the second book, and the reactions of the third. Without the character development up front you have no basis for the characters acting the way they do in the extraordinary situations that come about in the other two novels. To sum up... the first book is entirely character development subtly interjected within solving a mystery... if you reduced the character development you would have nothing left in the movie.

  • Layer Cake

  • Daniel Craig was in Defiance, and that was a great movie, as well as this, very superb. Loved every minute of it. Can't wait for the sequel.

  • Glasses guy is clueless

  • you should really read the book

  • I strongly disagree with your "carachter development" point

in the book, lisbeth and mikael meet in the middle, and its around 750 pages the book

so carachter development is what makes this story so unique

  • layer cake, one of the greatest gangland films of all time, stars daniel craig as the main character.

  • @busyak I agree

  • did the movie show boobies

  • @mrchandler490 It showed a LOT more than that...

  • I'm From Finland but I have to say.Swedish was better than American

  • @3killabytes Y U NO DO REVIEW OF I AM NUMBER FOUR...

No guys please do a review of I Am Number Four, its an awesome movie... Pls Pls Pls Pls

  • Lady Gaga has joined Google+. She’s been one of the most popular people on other social networks like Twitter and Facebook, and it’s a little surprising that she hasn’t made her way to Google+ before now.

Danny Sullivan suggests Google’s “Search Plus Your World” features may have played a role, given that when you search Google now for “music,” there is a good chance you’ll see Britney Spears and Snoop Dogg because of their Google+ profiles. Other musicians will likely follow suit.

  • erm it's a rated R Film and it's a drama. the amount of money its made is actually quite impressive. shut the fuck up Jay.

  • this film was awesome

  • They actully filmed some scenes outside my hometown in sweden. That was crazzzyyyy!!!!

  • bbc all the way

  • hahahaha, j got the haircut for it :-)

  • He was James bond to me that's almost as impressive of playing god

  • @shmuu3d It's a remake all 3 books have already been made into movie Google it

  • i agree it was peticularly longer then i would expect, but it was a good movie nontheless

  • 6:53 to 6:59 you pick up your coffee and then put it back down without drinking, wtf lol.

  • @yomam500 Who did? I did? I'm crazy

    J

  • i want that litle big planet thing

  • Do a Jurassic Park Blu Ray Review!

  • Jay, you are so full of shit. Mike, we like you.

  • @ResponsibleSnowflake Thank you for supporting our show.

    J

  • daniel craig has been in loads of movies altho most were done my british film industries so america proberley hasn't seen them also cowboys and aliens was really his only bad role because he didn't suit the character and i think for this movie he fit the role quiet well better then any other hollywood actor could i mean can you imagine tom cruise doing this he would wreck it with his fake serious looks and stuff just my opinion anyway

  • what were the awkward scenes i didnt see the movie

  • it's not a remake of the movie... it's David Fincher's film adaptation of the novel. And Fincher's movie is more more loyal to the book.

  • First of all, I think Daniel Craig is a star. But even if he wasn't, he was the best actor for this role. He did fantastic

  • Good review. Just one comment...

This is not a remake of the Swedish film. This is actually an adaption of the book itself. Much like when two different painters create their own interpretation of the same flower, the two directors gave their own interpretations of the book.

It is inescapable to compare the two movies, but it should not be critiqued based on the Swedish version. If it were a remake of the movie I can understand the problem people have, but it was an adaption of the book.

  • Fincher, Mara, Reznor & Ross made this movie better than Swedish version.

  • It's not the first time that the US actually re-do a Swedish movie.

No matter how the original is better >;3

  • Damm you subbox

  • The argument about Craig not being a big enough star really falls flat with me. I usually don't go and see movies becouse they are full of stars. In fact it's offten a bad sign, as if the movie can't stand up without the "Star Power".

    Anyway, have a good one.

  • @Disthron Agreed. Look at "New Year's Eve" if you want to see a star-studded piece of crap.

  • @Disthron

    spot on!

Why is Daniel Craig in everything these days? - from Cowboys & Aliens to Tin-Tin to this - all while being James Bond still, a role he was given a severe hard time for taking when he was offered it.

The answer is because he's a terrific actor - indeed, the only actor in history who got his balls tortured just for taking a role, as well as in the movie itself!

  • Movie is amazing!!

  • When talking to the people about this move, and the Swedish version, I have noticed that women liked it a lot more than men.

I also thought that the Swedish version was better.

  • This was a great movie great action epic music good actors its a 8.5 easily

  • So glad I subbed to this channel is so amazing. Good job. ^^;

  • Imma watch swedish original but I might be biased cause Rooney Mara seems to be the sexier dragon tattoo girl then noomi rapace

  • When is the next shit show?

  • the reasons why this film is "bombing":

    1. the content is VERY adult and therefore would not be able to reach a very wide audience.

    2. the average movie goer isn't patient enough to sit through a movie past 2 hrs, let alone a movie that's 2 hrs and 40 minutes and only has one 'explosion' scene.

still a fantastic movie and i really wish it did better. hollywood shouldn't be polluted with only cash cow blockbusters.

  • Daniel Craig is the poor man's Liam Neeson. The trilogy of books is one of my favourites of all time, I was so disappointed with the Swedish film, am yet to see this one, Kat's comments make me consider it though. The trilogy is a lot like LOTR in a translating to film sense, there is so much they just can't possibly do the story justice, am glad they at least spend some time developing the characters here though, as this will prove very important when making the next 2 films in the series.

  • havent seen but swedish version pwns cuz ima swede

  • I actually agree with J, this seemed like the kind of movie that needed a big name for the lead and Daniel Craig just isn't a name that makes everyone want to go see a movie, in my opinion, but I'm not saying I don't like him or think he's no good, he's great

  • Didn't Kat wear underwear while you were filming this?

  • I think the Swedish film is better than Fincher's because it was more raw and visceral. The rape scene in this film was not nearly as effective for me and neither was the scene between Mikael and Martin near the end. The other problem I have with Fincher's film is the score. I hated it! It was like Reznor and Ross were trying to emulate Tangerine Dream and Stockhausen but failing miserably at creating a mood or real tension. I also feel Stellan Skarsgaard was miscast; made it too obvious.

  • Group counseling gogo!

  • First thing i was thinking: I hate the Apple in the back.

  • @3killabytes wow...nice way to listen to your community.

  • I love this film ,however too much r-a-p-e Rooney was good and so was Craig , I loove it ,however I think this was a little better than be njamen button

  • The character development was necessary especially since they are making the second one. Mike, I understand how you didn't like how they were focusing on basically two story lines, but thats exactly how the book is. The chapters are dates and it basically goes back and forth with Lisbeth and Mikael on that day. Jay, wow, Daniel Craig is a star, he doesn't have any blockbuster films, but ask anybody, they'll know who he is. This is not a remake of the swedish freaking movie!! It is on the book

  • @SpidermanJewishman I understand that the book has two story lines at the beginning and I really like that. What I didn't like was the time they spent showing each. They could of shown both in less amount of time. It was just lazy editing in my opinion, almost like Fincher or the editor were married to the footage that was shot. And Daniel Craig does have the bond films witch are blockbusters.

    - Mike

    - Mike

  • @SpidermanJewishman Agreed... For me, the film was too compressed, not much they can do though it was already long. The events before the the two characters meet are a substantial chunk of the story and important to the pacing.

  • The part where George Lucas buttfucks Lisbeth made me cover my eyes.

  • This was a great movie, but why does Daniel Craig keep mumbling in the exposition of the movie!?

  • daniel craig was in layer cake before james bond and that movie was one of the best movies since the turn of the decade...

  • I thought this was a great movie, and I have not seen the swedish one or read the books

  • sorry jay but this time you're talking sh*t really haha, love you guys tho ;)

  • Also please, stop calling it a remake, it follows the book much much closer than the Swedish film. And Jay, it didn't help it that Daniel Craig is a good actor? Why did you want a "star"? The people that did go to see this movie went to see it for the titular character, at least for me, every scene she was in i was watching her and enjoying her performance. This, if anything is a Star making role for the young actress.

  • Elizabeth Mara?

  • Thumbs up if you're from Sweden and watching this!! :-)

  • I thought it was awesome

  • Game Chasers kicks ass!!! one of the best gaming shows on youtube. also if you haven't already, also check out Happy Console Gamer

  • Daniel Craig has done LOADS of big movies, you dont watch enough movies Jay, you always have crazy opinions in your reviews.

  • OK , good review but i respectfully disagree with your opinion that Daniel Craig hasn't done anything other than James Bond . Cmon he did the excellent crime thriller Layer Cake (very underrated movie) and he was in Steven Spielberg's Munich albeit he was a side character but yeah he has done some big roles.

  • you should review the swedish version, its way better.

  • The intro for this movie made me gasm... just sayin..

  • What was the song at the beginning?

  • lol mike's delayed reaction at the end.

  • I agree with Jay, Daniel Craig is a good actor but his name does not sell tickets or bring people to the box office.

  • Daniel Craig was in Layer Cake. That film is awesome

  • I would like to see more game reviews. But y'all movie reviews are so awesome, I don't mind it much.

  • Wow I have never heard a film critic bash a film for Having too much character development. It is a good film. I liked that it was long. It was rally good. Benjamin Button was better? Jeez, no don't condense it, the character development is needed. Its soooooooo much better than other crappy films that focus on plot and action. Seriously, this movie was a masterpeice. I will take character over plot anyday.

  • Great Review!

  • Yea guys nice video as always! There hasnt been a Shit Show in ages, any plans? :)

  • I agree with Kat on this one, I think Jay especially underrated it. But hey, reviews are opinions. It's a 9.0/10 for me.

  • 4:13 "what has he done other than james bond" ermmm Layer Cake, Defiance, Tintin? lol

  • So what is Jay going to get a Prince Albert because of this movie?

  • Love the Canadian accents.

  • I saw it I thought it was very good 9/10. I also disagree with jay about Daniel Craig not being a star. James Bond is the essence of a star.

  • I feel like theres some underlying quarrel here'

  • @jtghm There always is my good man!

    - Mike

  • daniel craig was in Munich, that was pretty good.

  • Is the soundtrack really good?

  • Daniel Craig is a star.

  • @SwobyJ I agree.

    - Mike

  • Going to go see the movie right now (literally), thanks to you guys! Thanks <3 Yah!

  • 6:59 Mike's sex noise.

  • @Buttcakes15 You have not heard nothing yet ;)

    - Mike

  • yaay for sweden!!! lazy americans!! :P

  • ابن زنا

  • did not watch video to avoid spoilers as i have not finished the book yet. i assume it was a good review so i "liked" it anyway :P

  • @TheRabidWeasels I don't think we have any spoilers in this review? Can someone confirm that please?

Thank you for liking the video though.

    - Mike

  • @3killabytes No spoilers, totally clear to watch.

  • @3killabytes

    there are spoilers.

  • The only problem I have with sub titles is I'm so busy trying to fucking read, I miss a lot of the cool stuff that's going on. With that said will I see this movie? Probably not.

  • "So the story follows Kat around and she has sex with everyone" LMFAO

  • 6:58

  • It's actually not a remake, it's a new adaptation of the book, and it's actually closer to the book than the Swedish version. Just sayin : )

  • perhaps sinse the movie was made in sweden about a swedish book perhaps they should have used more swedish actors rather then just Stellan Skarskård. but perhaps it would be strange to have characters with swedish accents :P

  • @Brachiale Its actually filled with swedish actors. Joel Kinnaman and David Dencik to name a few.

  • @NikstSWE are they main characters aswell or are they just some small minimal parts just asking :)

  • @Brachiale Small AND minimal =) But almost all small and minimal parts in this movie are acted by Swedish actors. And then you got, as you said, Stellan Skarsgård in one of maybe 5-6 bigger roles. What more do you want? =)

  • @NikstSWE well guessing by ur name that u are swedish like me i wish to have a special actor of ours :3 Persbrant i think would be a good and we know that he isnt only good when he is a very angry police officer and i think he would be suitable.

  • @Brachiale Yes I am =) Good for what? As Mikael Blomqvist? I think Daniel Craig was really good in that role, allot better then Mikael Nyqvist from the Swedish version. Persbrandt will be in The Hobbit movies so he will have his opportunity to shine on the international big-screen. =)

  • @NikstSWE perhaps.

  • lazy american not wanting to read subtitles? i just want to correct this, its not that we don't wanna read its that if we are reading the whole time we can't enjoy the film cause our eyes are locked on the words the whole time and we never get to see much. :(

  • @Dreamst8r its made in america so we get to do what we want with it why would we make it in sweedish when its us that are making it

  • Read the books but haven't seen the films, and I'm surprised Kat said this was better than the Swedish version becuase everyone i've asked says it's not as good.

  • Can't wait for the next episode :D

  • 2 problems with this is that

    1 the original was better

2 people are going to look at craig as james bond, a built hard fucker. not someone that spends his days worried , scared shitless.....

  • great movie it was 2hrs 40 mins but it didn't feel like it was anywhere near that long. i can't wait for the sequel this is a 9.5/10 easily

  • 8=ლ====D

  • I thought this movie was very well made. Liked the acting and the character development. No wonder that Lisbeth Salander is one of the most original characters in todays modern literature. It's a trilogy, don't ask why it seems that it has multiple endings. If the author meant it to be like that, deal with it.

  • Jay you freaked out at the end! also Kat are you guys planning to review "Contraband"?

  • I agree with Mike that it takes a little too long for Lisbeth and Mikael to meet, but like you guys I never got bored. I felt it was true to the book which itself takes a very long time for character development. I really enjoyed this film, thought Rooney Mara was excellent and better than Craig in this but the film was cast well in my opinion.

And Jay, about Craig, have you seen Layer Cake? That film made him.

  • I agree with J's opinion, Craig is not a huge star. Not on the same tier as Pitt, Cruise, or Lebeouf.

  • Why not just make subtitles to the original version?

  • nice thumbnail :D

  • 3KB is like crack, but alot better for you. Thank you guys!

  • the swedish version's also long. i think the length of this remake is just right. :)

  • lol, stop with the nose!

  • it seems as jay has a pedophile smile.

  • @impact296 That smile makes me have nightmares.

  • Who cares if the Swedish version is better, How would I be able to watch that version anyway? I'm from the UK!

  • @Deltatroska125 The DVD of that is everywhere in the UK!

  • i can't help but keep refreshing at 6:56 hahahaha. Jay's reaction is priceless.

  • @TheRealEvanio

Fear the SEGA Genesis 3 button controller! =P

  • Starstudded? Fuck that haha, I prefer the under-rated actors who you know will deliver a briliant performance as opposed to the botox pumped shite hollywood throws out. I'd take any indie European actor over Cruise/Pitt/Jolie shitfest. Which is why Prometheus will rule.

  • (Josiah) I agree with all 3 of you seriously, the whole too much character development topic made sense to me. Not horrible just could've been more condensed. I agree Craig is a cool actor but not a hot commodity(sp?) like Cruise or Will Smith or Pitt or heck even Galifinakis (half serious half joking). And Kat having seen the Swedish version I really wanted to hear her POV. Saying it's better due to the cinematography? I can dig that, good presentation goes a long way in the remake.

  • Kat pwn' ing with movie knowledge in this episode!! :)

  • what was that disgraceful led zep cover at the start??

  • Thanks for doing this movie review. I was just wondering why this movie did not get any attention. I think Jay is right: Although Daniel Craig is a good actor, he does not possess the charisma to sell this kind of movie. The other thing that can be said is that this movie was not marketed very well. I hardly saw any media advertisements for this movie.

  • Whats up with that creepy smile Jay did at 5:49 ? CHIlLLlssSSss

  • what does tbd mean

  • @snika999

    to be determined ...

  • every review should start with J burping lool

  • how many of the gwtdt movies exist?

  • @gavril08 Being originally a swedish book-series it was made into a swedish movie-series, this is the first american one.

  • @gavril08

There are a total of 3 completed novels. It has been discovered that there is a fourth novel which was never finished as well as brief synopses of a 5th and 6th novel that the author was planning to write. Supposedly the author was planning to have 10 novels in the series.

  • @segagenesis1989 JESUS!

  • Always thought this was a James Bond movie

  • wasnt there a trilogy before this?

  • @gavril08 No, this is the 1st part of the trilogy, there was a swedish trilogy though.

  • @lolpauve when was the first trilogy released? there was a trilogy released here in england but i didnt see and i dont know if its in swedish
