  • Wow! Great playing!

But as a bassist, I must comment on the superb quality of your bassist... He kept that groove rock solid that entire time!

  • @boyangzhu14 Thanks - That's David Beeboss on bass (also an awesome piano player) - check out his channel here on Youtube for some great stuff!

  • 7 beats, now I know what is going on, I was trying to figure why this was throwing me off. 7 beats just isn't natural to my inner rhythm yet.

  • insane talent, dude.

  • @voncoolio Thanks!

  • Hmm awesome

  • @arpinz I appreciate your comment.

  • Why is this called 7/4 instead of 7/8? I definitely hear it phrased in a fast 7/8.

Regardless, I absolutely LOVE this version!! It's simply amazing!! You offer such great improvisational techniques, it almost drives me crazy to know that someone can actually play this stuff!!! '

  • @barcanard Thanks. I think it is because if you follow the lead sheet there are 4 beats for the first chord 4 beats for the second chord and then 2 chords in measure 3 and so on. I am playing this with 7 beats in the first measure and 7 beats in the second measure etc so it is 7/4.

  • Fantastic playing . Thanks

  • great solo. why do i hear a 7/8 instead of 7/4?

  • you know

I really do enjoy your drive when playing, because lay the chords down strong and confident. Very nice

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • Dude, you shred, but I don't see how you consider this 7/4 when the feel of this measure is more compact, like 7/8.

  • AHHH!! my head hurts thinking in 7 lol.

anyways you play this great i love the latin flair you put in your solos keep playing!! =)

  • I appreciate your comment.

  • Playing itself is superb. There's still something very audible and tangible about an acoustic.

7/4 is rare and hard to meter and count - all players here are of exeplary professional standard.

  • Thanks Paul. Yes you are right, acoustic piano is best. ;-)

  • FAN

    tastic

  • 7/4 rocks great job i think im gona try it monday nite with our guys conga violin and 2 guitars

  • wow thanx so much 4 posting this

  • One of the best versions I have heard and going into my favorites

  • Thanks, I appreciate your comment.

  • Frickin' awesome.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bravo!!

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Just awesome. I'm also fascinated by and grateful for the "liner notes" provided to the right, well worth the length used for that.

  • Excellent playing! A joy to listen to.

  • I appreciate your comment.

  • Excellent work! Totally impressed!

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • that's so awesome dude..... one of my biggest regrets as a musician now is giving up piano at a young age

  • thats a difficult time to grasp there... it sound like the beat is pushed a quarter every four bars as well... nice playing tho... would have been nice to take it into a straight four after 32 bars or so...

  • I really enjoyed this! I love how jazz can be played with so many different styles. I'm a classical pianist, but I have always enjoyed playing jazz and listening to it as well. Good job!

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • A very comfortable 7/4. Love it!

My ears were begging for triplets by the end. =)

    Love the bit from 6:35 - 6:42...

    p.s. Nice vibraslap at :40 Hey-Oh!

  • Thanks much.

    - L2L

  • very nice

  • Smooth 7/4, sounds fresh.

  • Wow ur really a master of the keys, how did u learn these way? i am looking how to learn the real jazz like u play, wow i am still in shock, u play wonderfull

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • by the way how long have you been playing piano for?

  • this is purely wonderful

i'm amazed at how you don't become confused at the awkward timing. great job

  • 'get confused,' i mean.

and the guy who did the drum/bass track did a fantastic job.

  • awesome. impressive.

i think im most impressed by your ability to comp outside of the pulse and not confused. bravo.

  • i enjoy all your videos..i alays find new ideas inyour playing that keep me practicing:) did you do by your self the backing track? many thanks:)BRAVO!

  • Thanks. The backing track was created by YouTube user DaveBeeBoss (see the link in my comment section next to the video to go to his channel and see his great videos).

  • pretty cool!

  • aebersold background?

  • Great!

  • I like to hear more odd time signatures. Seven definately has a good feel to it.

  • Wow. Pretty nifty there and very creative

  • after listening a few times i'm pretty certain its 2+2+3.... am i right?

  • I'm hearing 4-3, actually... just my 2 cents as one who loves 7-beat rhythms, both playing and listening to them...

  • i cant work out if its grouped into 3+4, 4+3 or 2+2+3...

  • that is one difficult time signature to improvise over... you do a great job though; i still cant pick up the seven beats even though you say its in seven... you're a braver man than me to attempt it

  • Again, thanks. awesome!

You half inspired me to try harder to play piano (i used to play guitar long ago) and half scared me off !!! :-)

  • I'm without words!...Awesome.

  • Nice man. Has a good feel in 7.

  • Wow. I've heard so many versions of this song, and I play it myself on trumpet and guitar.

Thank you so much for your videos.

You've seriously inspired me to try piano again.

  • nice interpretation of that dude.

  • After 30 years I've started playing the piano again. The main reason are you, L2L. How incredibly inspiring to watch you do whatever it is you do. Please keep posting, it's lovely and sooooooo inspiring (but I'll never be able to do what you do ...)

  • Thanks for the wonderful comment ZzemutaHh!

    L2L

  • Awesome! As always. My achilles heal (foot?) is non-standard time signatures. You are a much braver man than I. I'm even scared to play "Money" by Pink Floyd. I hear a lot of McCoy in your playing, with your own style, of course, balancing in. Looking forward to even more! Thanks!

  • Oh God....Im still trying to play that in 4. How do you do that? Is amazing! Thanks a lot for posting your work, it's an ear opener!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • wow

  • Five stars.

  • Geez this seems extremely tough! I'm still having trouble with 5/4 myself. Deserves far more than 5 stars for sure!!

  • Great L2L as always ;)... the background music is an Aebersold? Five stars *****

  • In your next post could you put a face to the hands.

Very good, enjoying your playing, thank you.

    OPJ.

  • Where did the crazy L2L foot tapping go!?!?

  • I haven't done the software update yet to get it to work in 7.

  • great improvisation.... nicely done..

  • This is great stuff, Roger. Your drummer background is showing! This is terrifically difficult stuff to do. Remarkable.

  • nice! this is what i am learning at my jazz piano school. I am basicaly figuring out how to comp and solo over it and through all the key changes and finding what scale works for me best.

  • Great resounding work on this piece, infinite solo on 7/4, killer music :-) * * * * *

  • Nice one, I am glad you are making such good use of the backing track. Very interesting playing.

  • Thanks David - I can't wait to hear your version. ;-)

  • This is great stuff. :-)

  • Thanks Vibeman.

  • You're one of my favorite YouTube jazz players... amazing stuff!

  • Thanks for the comment RL82.
