This is a great song, and it is just an example of how the great bands and singers of the 1970s could put 10 great songs on an album year after year. Now if you get one or two OK songs it is a major accomplishment from the current crop of music idols. A lot of awful crap.
i am also covering this song, it makes amazing fun to sing an play the song, just a great tune, EJ best voice of seventees beside freddy mercury of course...
Una delle canzoni di Sir Elton che si elevano a standard. Mi piace segnalare il lavoro al drumming preciso e possente oltre al coro straordinario. Sembra una filastrocca senza grosse pretese e invece è memorabile.Bellissima.
I have effectively erradicated the dilike moron. Let it be known, all who dilike elton from know own will meet the same fate. BTW I think once we finally colonize another plantet, elton john's music should be the first ever played on that planet. Only elton john and beatles fans allowed.
people are talking about the drums.. they are exceptional; not only the compressive effect they made on them, but in various times they are extremely tricky and well composed and I bet difficult to play.. the dialog between bass drum and hihat around the instrumental bit is amazing
@anthroscott I borrowed an original LP of this from a friend's uncle when I was in high school, then went out and bought a new one of my own and got a big lesson in the concept of "original packaging" because all you got with it inside in the late 80's was a clear plastic sleeve.
I've been listening to Elton Jonh since I was three, since he's my mom's favorite. I'm an eighteen year old girl who usually listens to pop/rock and top 40, and I LOVE this! hahah, my mom and I sing this at the top of our lungs on road trips.
@wegotorangeomg I thought I was the only 18 year old who listens to Elton! I just went to see him perform in Hollywood his new album along with a set of his own. Good to know I'm not the only teen who listens to him
@wegotorangeomg I thought I was the only 18 year old who listens to Elton! I just went to see him perform in Hollywood his new album along with a set of his own. Good to know I'm not the only teen who listens to him.
I remember wondering how they got those incredible drum sounds when I first heard this album (I still have my original vinyl from 1975.) It turned out that it was gated reverb, about 10 years before it really became popular with songs like Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight." Nigel Olsson and Gus Dudgeon weren't the first to use it, but they were by far the best at that time -- maybe ever. And they were doing it with a complex analog process, before digital processors made it easy.
What can be said about the 70's, but it was a time to be ALIVE, with music like Elton John, Paul McCartney & Wings, Queen, REO, the list goes on & on & on.........
I wish they made a movie "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy". It would be a super hero movie (kind of) CAPTAIN FANTASTIC with partner duo the BROWN DIRT COWBOY try to save the world from CAPTAIN FANTASTIC'S ex-girlfriend.
jonathon, top call.....this song reminds me of coming home from school, and building model aircraft....if I smell paint and glue, it takes me back to this song:)
And my favourite aircaft to build? go to be the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka
I first heard this in my parent's vinyl collection also. Great album. I too looked at the cover trying to figure all the critters out! I recently found the album poster for them as an anniversary gift.
Nobody compares to Elton and Bernie!
