The younger fighter has greater and therefore “rising” “potential” while the older fighter is most likely “declining” in “potential”. That is why all the older fighters are the champions in the division in most cases. They have paid their dues and finally have reached the top of the championship, rankings and money earning potential “mountain”. Now that is obviously not true in all cases but it is true in most cases.
You know why they won’t fight him? Cause of the maturation of a fighter’s career (rise and decline). When you’re a young fighter, chances are you will be fighting other younger fighters as you get older and especially if you’re the champion, you will fight, most of the time at least, older fighters. The reason why is because, the younger fighters is still rising in the ranks while the older fighter is at the very top of the ranks.

You give Mayweather 1 loss in his record and he doesn't seem that great anymore. Most of the guys he has fought he has so many advantages against them. Mayweather is always about getting the upper hand weather it's height, weight, speed or age, or all of the above. He still has a lot to prove. His skills is still to be tested. If you self-proclaim yourself as being the greatest boxer of all time, then you should be willing to fight anyone, especially guys in their prime and not make excuses.

The younger fighter has greater and therefore “rising” “potential” while the older fighter is most likely “declining” in “potential”. That is why all the older fighters are the champions in the division in most cases. They have paid their dues and finally have reached the top of the championship, rankings and money earning potential “mountain”. Now that is obviously not true in all cases but it is true in most cases.

You know why they won’t fight him? Cause of the maturation of a fighter’s career (rise and decline). When you’re a young fighter, chances are you will be fighting other younger fighters as you get older and especially if you’re the champion, you will fight, most of the time at least, older fighters. The reason why is because, the younger fighters is still rising in the ranks while the older fighter is at the very top of the ranks.

Remember when boxing was on national TV for free, and only the pure cream match ups were on PPV? Hagler and Hearns fought eachother for only $5 mil a piece. When boxing moved to pay tv only, it was the worst thing to ever happen to the sport, because fighters could get paid millions for just selling their name, and not getting the ring with a real opponent. It's finally gone too far, and now boxing can't make the fights happen.
