You got to be kidding, obviously you haven't seen much of Sid McGinnis. I respect Mark Knopfler, I just had to speak out for Sid. Sid is a phenomenal guitarist. Obviously he had to take a back seat to Knopfler, he's the guest. Sid has toured and/or recorded with numerous artists including Barry Manilow, Peter Gabriel, Carly Simon, Dire Straits, Robert Fripp, The Sisters Of Mercy, Cool It Reba, Laurie Anderson, David Lee Roth, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel and others.
Agree with you completely. Will Lee on bass and Steve Jordan playing drums. I really liked Steve Jordan's drumming on Keith Richards X-Pensive Winos albums and live. Always thought Sid McGinnis was an excellent guitarist, can't compare him to Mark Knopfler but he does trade licks with Mark pretty well on this video. Thanks for the comment!
Hey Leksingen, you have some great guitar playing on YouTube. Couldn't have a better influence on guitar than Mark Knopfler. Didn't know that about "So Far Away", really like that song, one of my favorites on Brothers in Arms.
Yes, I think he uses it on The Man's too Strong :) And a lots of the songs on the new album as well :) Like Punish THe Monkey and Let It All Go, True Love Will Never Fade, and the lovely song Our Shangri-la :)
On the 83--85 tours, knopfler sometimes used a pick on the INTRO ONLY to Tunnel Of Love, then he'd through it to the front row of the crowd. On the Alchemy version however, he is using a pick AFTER the intro to TOL for the first half minute or so...check it out!
pick playing on" so far away "--all wrong-- its a classic finger magic technic song

Here's the Alchemy - watch?v=lWCXHjia2Sk
At 1:34 he don't have pick.
At 1:42 it looks like he play the rhythm stuff with a pick, but in 2:12 he finger picking. So I don't think he use any. :)
