most people know this song because of The Lovely Bones. I know it because it was in the trailer for the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Amazing song.
it pisses me off that 'know alls' hav a lot to say about a classic that i was listening to about the time they were born and criticise the way MOVIE versions introduce them to a new age. If it wasn't for these 'cameo's' very few people would ever hear fantastic songs like this....
@Poet2916 I cried during that scene in the field too. The last time I cried while watching a movie was when I was a kid in the 80's. It was the movie La Bamba when he screams at the end.........RITCHIE !!!
Cheers for the lyrics~ On the floating, shapeless oceans I did all my best to smile til your singing eyes and fingers drew me loving into your eyes. +++ Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you here when I was full sail? Now my foolish boat is leaning, broken love lost on your rocks. +++ I'm as puzzled as a newborn child. I'm as riddled as the tide. Should I stand amid the breakers? Or shall I lie with death my bride?
This song is not as good as David Lynch made it in Lost Highway. It's amazing how a great movie, a great film director can squeeze the essence out of of a tune. There's a haunting ephemeral quality that Lynch effectively exploited. Just like he exploits every other element of his films so ruthlessly, so despicably, so artfully. He is a good movie maker.
@KingKook Odd use of works. Not sure about the "squeezing, exploiting, ruthlessness and despicably" stuff!! I think it's a much more natural process for Lynch than that. I don't think he is so contrived, clinical, manipulative or uptight about his wok. He's a naturally visionary man as far as I can see, it's a natural process for him. I agree though that the version of this song on Lost Highway is probably even better than this one, which is still amazing.
@ThEmIdNiGhTiNtRuDeR Are you an artist or in a "creative" field. I am. I can pretty confidently say that those are some of the more common attitudes that drift through my psyche as I'm making art type stuff. It's very much like child birth, the "thing" will often resist, and great cunning and will are required to deliver a creation. The inception, the inspiration cannot be forced or planned - it just materializes - but it's fruition is often a battle. A ruthless, conniving, immoral war of need.
it pisses me off slightly that more people will come to know this song through the much mediocre appearance in Lovely Bones. the scene in Lost Highway is the definitive one.
this takes me away to an idyilic place where only the few can reach me ! !would love to watch a sunrise /sunset somewhere nice just holding the woman I love and watch the world go from darkness to light dusk till dawn
right now i cannot speak to my sister because she is in a domestic violence shelter, i miss and love her so much. when i was in high school i had this cd and me and her fell in love with it! that was 1990 or so and so long ago. now i am 37 and still cherish and adore the same music, i own this cd again and being able to hear and comment on it right for me is beyond words. i am trying not to cry but my heart breaks for her right now hearing this. i hope her and her three babies are safe and sound
@37yvette i hope the same for your sister and yourself as well. i understand every word you wrote and know that you made a difference in someone tonight. thank you.

God knows this song captured my heart many years ago....It is so spiritual to me...and magical...when I need peace this song coms to mind..thanks for posting it...and please if you dont' have a positive bone in your body to comment through then let it be..
David Lynch tried to get this song on his movie 'Blue Velvet' ...but couldn't circa 86...it was replaced by 'Mysteries of Love'...he did manage to get it in his latter film 'Lost Highway' though....and it was used to great effect in the stunning 'desert sex' scene.
superb! but please everyone stop relating this to some tv or movie clip youve seen...the album this is on is simply genius....the artists are legendary
music can take us anywhere we want to go,it has a powerful effect on all the events in our lives, when the music begins the memorys are right there.god i love this music.
This song is powerful in many aspects of life or death. An untouchable element a few of us only reach while we roam this Earth. It is the sense of a closed chapter or a feeling of going to the next chapter when all is said and done. Nothing can change the reality or destiny some of us face at times. Yet a true realization of understanding we are only human and should continue to see the pure spirit within each and all of us aside from what we face on a daily basis throughout this world~
@kika6874 The lyrics in these vocals melt into chants from the heart, reverberating and pulsing at the rhythms and frequencies of the soul itself and bouncing off the sounding board of what we call the wall of the mind. Pure speech fashioned dagger to the soul and to unravel the mind.
