The history of karate was for civilians that weren't aloud to learn to fight and weren't aloud weapons of any kind. so they always had to appear empty handed hence the name. Thats why all the weapons in karate are objects you found in everyday life at that time. I'll give him props for being so skilled with that pole, but karate is free hand martial arts, and is never done too aggressively.

As for the screaming, it comes when you release your entire force or power into your attack. Exhaling at the point of impact causes you to scream out from your stomach, making the attack much more effective. It's like when professional tennis players utter a short warcry when hitting the ball. Although in this case, the boy kind of exaggerated the scream XD
