Nixon actually made alot of progress (especially in the realm of foreign relations) that he gets no credit for because of the watergate scandal... I am not saying that what he did was right, it was not, but come on. Nixon was one of the more moderate and sensible Republicans we have had in office in comparison to the idiots (Reagan, both Bushes) who came after him.

it's funny...as a kid I was always under the impression that nixon was a thieving monster...but the more I research the watergate scandal, the more I watch the david frost interviews and listen to the tapes, the more I realize that while nixon was decidedly corrupt in many ways, a bit dishonest and possibly homophobic...he was also kind of an everyman...tortured, broken down and vulnerable...im sure there have been worse crimes committed in the oval office

I feel for him. a president has more pressure than most like to think. no matter what decision he makes it will always seem wrong in anothers eyes. I am not saying he was innocent but i know people make mistakes and he is no exception whether he is the president or not. His apology was heartfelt and sincere, at least he owned up to his mistake while others never do. Bush for example never will. Nixon even excluded himself basically from life becuz of it. Some never admit yet are more accepted.
