All of the emotions from six years condensed into one moment. Thanks for making me cry like a baby in the airport, waiting for my flight. While in uniform by the way.
i loved the relationship between sayid and hurley just because hurley saw in sayid what sayid couldn't see in himself this is by far one of my faviorite "remember us" sequences
@ballaesmeralda Me too. I have to admit it. It's the one i rewatch the most. It just is done so beautifully this scene, the music, the clips they use and how it is edited. I had been waiting to see it all season and was worried it wasn't going to happen - so when I did it felt like it was a promise which had really been kept even though it had been made literally many seasons ago and we almost assumed might never be kept.
@lekena2 This is after he married Nadia. In limbo (where he and Shannon are right now), Nadia is married to his In real life, however, he married Nadia during the two or three year time period, during the Oceanic Six arc.
Personally, I'm confused as to how he could form a relationship with Shannon on the island after being hung up on Nadia, then moving on from Shannon to Nadia, and back to Shannon in the afterlife.
I just settled with the idea that he wanted Nadia to be safe and to be happy, but felt with Shannon no sense of guilt (rather than someone he tortured, it was actually someone he helped).
Either way, I would have preferred Nadia (at least she shows up in his sideways elsewhere). But this will have to do.
I think a big issue for the character Sayid is that he's stuck in the past. With Shannon he moved on and was happy. Then when she died he turned back to what was familiar. Nadia, though I believe he did love her, was a part of his past. He needed to let her go. Just look at his patterning. Whenever he's hurting he reverts back to the soldier persona. That of course is just my opinion.
@qasy99 Call me a sap but I cried quite alot during the finale haha. It was like saying goodbye to family after 6 years for me. Cheesy but true. I bought the complete series on Blu-ray at the start of January and watched it through until the end of March, so I'm not re-watching the show again right now, but I really want to. I bought a 42" TV just so I could enjoy LOST in all its HD glory lol - I'm obsessed. Are you re-watching it at the moment? I'm glad to have found another huge fan too :]
@HurtMeSoul108 I recently purchased the complete collection on blu-ray. It's wonderful. I live and breathe this show. No good thing ever dies; 815 flies forever!
@qasy99 Exactly! As much as I loved the mysteries of the island, the show was based on the characters, which was why we learned all about them over those 6 years. They were the most important thing, that's why it annoys me when people are pissed about not learning every single thing about the island etc. We got closure on the characters even after their deaths and I couldn't have been happier with that. I thought it was a really touching end, everyone back together. Nobody "died alone" haha.
@qasy99 I agree! I love the irony and constrasting of it all. I can't stand the people who say that "the end of LOST was they were all dead in the end" when that's JUST the flash-sideways storyline.
@qasy99 Hey no worries :] glad I could help. You're right they constructed their flash-sideways scenarios themselves, like Kate was on the run in the FS for killing a plumber not her dad, since that was the reason (in life) that her and her mom's relationship broke down. Jack dealt with his daddy issues in his FS by inventnig a son that he conveniently had with Juliet - somebody else who never got to have kids. Hurley being lucky instead of unlucky. It's brilliant right? I loved the f-sideways.
@qasy99 I think even though Boone died horribly, he was peaceful, because he had let go of his own issues - his messed up relationship with Shannon - since Locke helped him in life. I think since he was already at peace, in their limbo/flash-sideways he was already aware of it, so he never "needed" to alter his flash-sideways in contrast to his problems in life :]
Each of the characters "made" their flash-sideways life mirror their issues in life, in order to make peace with them..
@qasy99 Desmond said to Hurley that Ana-Lucia wasn't "ready yet", right? And because she died with alot of unresolved emotional issues, even though her story regarding accepting her loss and that she didn't want to "be a killer" or fight anymore had been resolved, I suppose she had to build or rebuild her relationship with her mother in her own flash-sideways story, and then she would move on at a different time to the rest of the LOSTies, if that makes any sense?
I love how Hurley perfectly analyzes Sayid's character! Because even though Sayid thought he was bad, deep down he was actually good and proved it numerous times throughout the series
I just want to say that when Sayid leave the island, he married with Nadia... And when she dies, he still married ! And when he dies, he goes with Shannon... Poor Nadia...
This was such and will always be a beautiful scene Sayid and Shannon always and forever I cant help but cry again and to see Boone again just wonderful..
Sayid and Nadia belong together, not Sayid and Shannon. Sayid and Shannon were dating for like 2 weeks, and Sayid's relationship with Nadia was much longer and deeper. In Season 4 or 5, he says the he spent the best time of his life with Nadia, which meant it was better than the time he spent with Shannon.
@wrathcard True, but her death turned him into a straight killer and before that every time he looked at her he remembered being a torturer of her. With Shannon he got to be just someone who loves a woman. That's the reasoning anyway. i'm kind of neutral. Sayid always choose the more violent option that he hated, so Sayid got on my nerves more then once.
Sayid was obsessed with Nadia. She was dream, his idealized love. In all that time, he didnt start to love her on the right way. Their relationship was longer and deeper? Tell me, how? Sayid spent with Shannon 48 days on that island. They met each other without their pasts. Sayid and Nadia were childhood friends and then he saw her on 3 days after 20 years and begun to search after her. He didnt know her, she was his salvation of bad past. And when he caught her, she died.
With Shannon he found peace and finally he get love which he desperately need. He finally found himself. When she had died, he wanted reason for life and then he remembered:Oh, Nadia is still alive. This story with Nadia is from soaps, nothing real and powerful.Actually, it was a great relief. Get you lost on 80 and more days and tell me that is nice and lovely. He was happy with Nadia but he never forgot Shannon. She was his soulmate,"the only thing he ever wanted" and which he found in AfterLife.
I watched Lost all the way through but never understood the ending. Were they dead all the time? Can someone explain it to me. i really loved the show and just didn't get the ending.
It had nothing to do with the rest of the show - you could watch the whole series without the flash-sideways parts and it would be the same story.
The idea is that they all died at different times in real life - Boone died in season one, Jack died in season six for example - but they all came together at the same time in purgatory (on the plane to LAX) so that they could find each other and move on.
OMG! When I saw that flicker of blonde hair. I literally jumped up and down. Shannon Rutherford was such an underrated character. She had so much potential, sucks that the writers didn't know how to handle her.
@HP1818 Same for me I was soooo pleased when I realised it was Shannon. It just went back right to the good old days of Lost and reunited a couple who had only just begun to realise their potential. Shannon had such a sad story that I wanted so badly to see her again but on a happier note - so glad the writers acknowledged that Sayid's promise that he would never leave her was a true one and that it would prove to help them both move on eventually.
I personally think Boone & Shannon were really interesting (and more importantly, extremely attractive) characters. Killing them off so early was a mistake if they weren't going to give them a bigger come back than this. However, the Lost ending was more than satisfactory. It left just enough space between the answered questions and the ones you have to work out for yourself! Also, it has the most epic soundtrack! :)
@MissSweetSurrender Shannon and Sayid were more interesting, because he's all older and mature and brooding, and she's the typical white girl blonde. So he definitively tamed her, and it was beautiful.
I still honestly think that this is one of the best reunions just given the amount of time that these two characters have been apart - she died at the start of season 2 and this is the very end of season 6 - thats like almost 5 seasons!!! Every time I've watched this with people they've been like - who's that?? then they realise it's shannon! Its so good cos you don't expect her to come back since she's been gone for so long and when she does its like wowww how long have i waited to see that?!
@samstar1016 I agree - would have been ideal for her to be with Boone the premier for Season 6 on Oceanic 815 but due to her busy schedule it couldn't happen :( I guess it's good thing that at least Boone mentioned how she was in a bad relationship. In a sense it mirrored her original life - in this case Boone was able to let go of her and not have to come to her rescue as she didn't want out. I guess in the end Boone was able to let go and move on by helping Shannon and letting Sayid save her.
@samstar1016 I think the actress who played Shannon couldn't actually make it for the earlier episodes of Season 6, as she was supposed to be on the plane as well, but she couldn't make it so they rewrote the script a bit.
I LOVE this reunion because I always felt they killed Shannon off to quickly. I just wish they had given a moment for Shannon and Boone to have a reunion. There was so much left unfinished between them and we never learned what he wanted Jack to tell her when he died. It would have been really touching.
This scene honestly saved a bit of the finale for me. I wanted Kate and Sawyer to end up together. And, of course, they didn't end up together so I'm glad my second favorite couple got together in the end. I didn't think their relationship was that weird at all. It doesn't take long for people to fall in love. And, let's face it, what happened on the Island was everyone's destiny. So, I can totally see Shannon and Sayid as soul mates. Opposites attract, and they needed each other to grow.
@homegurrl Completely agree - it was by no standards the stereotypical predictable couple. It was a case in which the theme of redemption became a huge reason for them to remember one another and their life together.
@Moollii Especially sense Shannon first told airport security some "Arab guy" had left his bag unattended when they meet for the 1st time. Not lovebird beginnings!
@betterthanbooks I have recently rewatched it. And Sayid/Shannon relationship pales in comparison to the other couples, especially Sun & Jin's. Even Claire's and that rocker dude had more going for them. Sayid and Shannon makes Nicholas Sparks' stories look deep. They just had sex on the island after 44 days from the crash , worked a wee bit on translating the french map, and that makes them "soulmates"? um... sure. But I guess they had no one else to end up with. Came off lame tho.
@eyestrained07 Did you not see the scene before she died where he declares his love for her and that he'd never leave her? The fact that he held onto her when she most needed him redeemed him - she saw past all that and they were happier together than he ever was for the rest of the series. After she died he just gradually got darker and darker so it doesn't matter how short it was. What matters is that they were together and happy in that fleeting moment.
@Moollii I saw all those scenes you mentioned. The problem is, the story just doesn't fly. A fleeting moment makes her his soulmate? It's a hard sell no matter how many times the story TELLS me that's what I'm suppose to think.
@eyestrained07 I know what you mean - it doesn't initially feel right but at the same time I wanted to see Sayid happy and I knew Shannon would be the only person who could give that to him. Literally he destroyed all the women he cared about, Elsa, Nadia but Shannon was different even if it was fleeting. I know and I agree that its a hard sell but when u come at it from the angle of Sayid's past and how bad he perceives himself, it makes more sense. Its complex but that's why Lost is great.
As was the point of Sayid's episode in season 6. Sayid thought he didn't deserve Nadia. She's was mostly something he wanted for a long time, then got. He thought she should be with his brother. Shannon was more on Sayid's level.
Nadia wasn't really flawed. Sayid and Shannon were.
I kinda like to think Nadia in Sayid's flashsideways is what he wishes her life would have been.
While I admit that the Lost writers didn't fully remind the audience just how important Shannon had been for him in the later seasons (he never even mentioned her but nor did Claire mention Charlie after his death) Sayid did feel huge grief when he lost her. Rewatch her funeral or more poignant - 'One of Them" in Season 2 when he interrogates Ben and breaks down over Shannon's death. So people can dislike this pairing all they want but deep down - it reflects two deeply misunderstood lost souls.
Yes, Nadia was Sayid's long-lost love, but even he knew she would've been better off had he never found her, because she ended up dead. I LOVED Nadia, but Shannon was the person who helped Sayid find redemption, and he in turn helped her to mature and finally accept her self-worth. They were brilliant together in my opinion and I'm so glad they "moved on" together. This scene is beautiful. The acting, the music, everything. Boone's smile at the end too is just so touching.
At the end of the day every character had two things to accomplish in this afterlife. Let go and overcome their ongoing inner conflict and secondly to reflect on the times in their life where others helped them heal and mend that inner conflict. Look at this way - Sayid loved Nadia - but the flashes aren't all about just loving someone. His love for Nadia and his ability to commit atrocities was one of the reasons he felt he didn't deserve her.
@Moollii While he loved her, her death was something which twisted him and made him believe he didn't deserve her at all and that there was nothing but bad in him. So, with Shannon - his love for her and the time they spent together was the ultimate healing gem for him as both faced troubles together on the island - both had a fresh start - a time where Sayid could realise he was capable of good and able to protect someone without feeling unworthy as both were equally flawed.
@Moollii Absolutely agree - one thing to add though if I may, I think that he wasn't with Nadia in the afterlife because since this post-Oceanic 815 non-crash which they created together, in Sayid's "ideal" version, him and Nadia not being together means that she never would've died in that hit and run, right? I get it. I'm also really really happy Sayid and Shannon were together in the end, I loved them as a pairing.
@Oceanic890 They'll probably have a lot of deleted scenes on the DVD. Like I know that they have a scene for the DVD in which Hurley and Ben visit Walt, and Hurley ends up giving his leadership of the island to Walt.
Ugh. It should have been Nadia. Shannon was always your typical shallow blonde and I had a hard time believing Sayid could ever find her interesting at all.
@EvilUser Whether you like Shannon or not, I think that he wasn't with Nadia in the afterlife because since this post-Oceanic 815 non-crash which they created together, in Sayid's "ideal" version, him and Nadia not being together means that she never would've died in that hit and run, right? Which is why she was with his brother in Sayid's flash-sideways.
Yeah. Sayid thought she should be with someone who wasn't a killer. Who had a normal life. Remember his brother in the childhood flashback with the chicken?
That's how she was on the island and in Austrilia, after her family Abandoned her. In her flashback she seemed like an alright person.
The reason you can't believe Sayid could find her interesting at all is because you cannot see past the shallow island "front' and see the lonely, insecure girl inside who just wanted someone to believe in her. Sayid could see it.
@lightsevor3069 Hurley had his awakening several episodes earlier, with Libby (he'd been helping Desmond ever since). As for Boone, well, its hinted that he knew from when we saw him in "LAX", since he seemed so Zen there. Which would make sense, since he was the first of them to die.
Here is why i think Sayid is with Shannon and not Nadia: Shannon could see Sayid for why he truly was. She could see past all the faults he made and see the true person he really is. And vice versa. Nadia on the other hand i don't think could have.
Been rewatching Lost and am almost done with S2. When Sayid told Shannon that he wouldnt leave her even if he got off the island I bought it. Sayid/Nadia would have been the cop out. Sayid/Shannon is earned and enriches the series on rewatch.
man, they should've had a scene where boone remembered everything! he was my favorite character throughout the series and I was so happy when we got to see him! shouldn've had a lot more screentime!
A scene that has been a long time coming! So glad they brought boone and shannon back. Old school Lost was truly some of the best Lost ever had to offer!
@Moollii that have a love theme song? I don't remember that? What's it called? I expected their reunion to be longer though. Still nice to see them together.
ok maybe i missed something, but how did Boone become in "enlightened" about his past life on the island? because it seems like in this scene he knows whats going on and i don't remember a scene when he had his flashes to his life on the island. did it happen off camera or did i miss it? please someone explain?!!??!

Its so good cos you don't expect her to come back since she's been gone for so long and when she does its like wowww how long have i waited to see that?!

Shannon should've gotten more screen time in the flash-sideways this season. :(
samstar1016 1 year ago 19
@samstar1016 I agree - would have been ideal for her to be with Boone the premier for Season 6 on Oceanic 815 but due to her busy schedule it couldn't happen :( I guess it's good thing that at least Boone mentioned how she was in a bad relationship. In a sense it mirrored her original life - in this case Boone was able to let go of her and not have to come to her rescue as she didn't want out. I guess in the end Boone was able to let go and move on by helping Shannon and letting Sayid save her.
Moollii 1 year ago
@samstar1016 I think the actress who played Shannon couldn't actually make it for the earlier episodes of Season 6, as she was supposed to be on the plane as well, but she couldn't make it so they rewrote the script a bit.

she just appear in this cene on the hole 6 season? and after that what happende to her? CAN SOMEONE ANSEWER ME?
heliocbairros 1 year ago
@heliocbairros She only appeared in The End. This scene and the very last scene where they all reunited.
Moollii 1 year ago
I LOVE this reunion because I always felt they killed Shannon off to quickly. I just wish they had given a moment for Shannon and Boone to have a reunion. There was so much left unfinished between them and we never learned what he wanted Jack to tell her when he died. It would have been really touching.
cmcrump 1 year ago 4
@cmcrump I imagine he wanted Jack to tell her that he forgave her.

@homegurrl Well said, homegurrl!
carissadm31 1 year ago
@homegurrl Completely agree - it was by no standards the stereotypical predictable couple. It was a case in which the theme of redemption became a huge reason for them to remember one another and their life together.

@Moollii Especially sense Shannon first told airport security some "Arab guy" had left his bag unattended when they meet for the 1st time. Not lovebird beginnings!

this wasn't as moving or as authentic as Sun & Jin's reunion. This felt forced.
eyestrained07 1 year ago
@eyestrained07
Not if you've recently watched season's 1 and 2.
It only feels forced to so many because they've nearly forgotten this relationship.
betterthanbooks 1 year ago
@betterthanbooks I have recently rewatched it. And Sayid/Shannon relationship pales in comparison to the other couples, especially Sun & Jin's. Even Claire's and that rocker dude had more going for them. Sayid and Shannon makes Nicholas Sparks' stories look deep. They just had sex on the island after 44 days from the crash , worked a wee bit on translating the french map, and that makes them "soulmates"? um... sure. But I guess they had no one else to end up with. Came off lame tho.
eyestrained07 1 year ago
@eyestrained07 Did you not see the scene before she died where he declares his love for her and that he'd never leave her? The fact that he held onto her when she most needed him redeemed him - she saw past all that and they were happier together than he ever was for the rest of the series. After she died he just gradually got darker and darker so it doesn't matter how short it was. What matters is that they were together and happy in that fleeting moment.
Moollii 1 year ago
@Moollii The shot at 1:37 just says it all - he really cared about her and 1:38 again shows how he was there to help her when nobody else was.
Moollii 1 year ago
@Moollii I saw all those scenes you mentioned. The problem is, the story just doesn't fly. A fleeting moment makes her his soulmate? It's a hard sell no matter how many times the story TELLS me that's what I'm suppose to think.
eyestrained07 1 year ago
@eyestrained07 I know what you mean - it doesn't initially feel right but at the same time I wanted to see Sayid happy and I knew Shannon would be the only person who could give that to him. Literally he destroyed all the women he cared about, Elsa, Nadia but Shannon was different even if it was fleeting. I know and I agree that its a hard sell but when u come at it from the angle of Sayid's past and how bad he perceives himself, it makes more sense. Its complex but that's why Lost is great.

The worst of the remembering scenes. Nadia was Sayids love. Shannon was a island fling.
Celly222 1 year ago
@Celly222
I kinda like to think Nadia in Sayid's flashsideways is what he wishes her life would have been.
betterthanbooks 1 year ago
You're a good man, Sayid Jarrah.
jimbopumbapigsticks 1 year ago 6
While I admit that the Lost writers didn't fully remind the audience just how important Shannon had been for him in the later seasons (he never even mentioned her but nor did Claire mention Charlie after his death) Sayid did feel huge grief when he lost her. Rewatch her funeral or more poignant - 'One of Them" in Season 2 when he interrogates Ben and breaks down over Shannon's death. So people can dislike this pairing all they want but deep down - it reflects two deeply misunderstood lost souls.
Moollii 1 year ago 49
@Moollii I'm in complete agreement with you :)
HurtMeSoul108 1 year ago
Yes, Nadia was Sayid's long-lost love, but even he knew she would've been better off had he never found her, because she ended up dead. I LOVED Nadia, but Shannon was the person who helped Sayid find redemption, and he in turn helped her to mature and finally accept her self-worth. They were brilliant together in my opinion and I'm so glad they "moved on" together. This scene is beautiful. The acting, the music, everything. Boone's smile at the end too is just so touching.
HurtMeSoul108 9 months ago
At the end of the day every character had two things to accomplish in this afterlife. Let go and overcome their ongoing inner conflict and secondly to reflect on the times in their life where others helped them heal and mend that inner conflict. Look at this way - Sayid loved Nadia - but the flashes aren't all about just loving someone. His love for Nadia and his ability to commit atrocities was one of the reasons he felt he didn't deserve her.
Moollii 1 year ago
@Moollii While he loved her, her death was something which twisted him and made him believe he didn't deserve her at all and that there was nothing but bad in him. So, with Shannon - his love for her and the time they spent together was the ultimate healing gem for him as both faced troubles together on the island - both had a fresh start - a time where Sayid could realise he was capable of good and able to protect someone without feeling unworthy as both were equally flawed.
Moollii 1 year ago
@Moollii Absolutely agree - one thing to add though if I may, I think that he wasn't with Nadia in the afterlife because since this post-Oceanic 815 non-crash which they created together, in Sayid's "ideal" version, him and Nadia not being together means that she never would've died in that hit and run, right? I get it. I'm also really really happy Sayid and Shannon were together in the end, I loved them as a pairing.

So how did Hurley get Boone to remember considering he was in love with shannon? lmao
Oceanic890 1 year ago 2
@Oceanic890 They'll probably have a lot of deleted scenes on the DVD. Like I know that they have a scene for the DVD in which Hurley and Ben visit Walt, and Hurley ends up giving his leadership of the island to Walt.

Ugh. It should have been Nadia. Shannon was always your typical shallow blonde and I had a hard time believing Sayid could ever find her interesting at all.
EvilUser 1 year ago
@EvilUser Whether you like Shannon or not, I think that he wasn't with Nadia in the afterlife because since this post-Oceanic 815 non-crash which they created together, in Sayid's "ideal" version, him and Nadia not being together means that she never would've died in that hit and run, right? Which is why she was with his brother in Sayid's flash-sideways.
HurtMeSoul108 1 year ago 3
@HurtMeSoul108
Yeah. Sayid thought she should be with someone who wasn't a killer. Who had a normal life. Remember his brother in the childhood flashback with the chicken?
betterthanbooks 1 year ago
@betterthanbooks You're right, I agree. And yes, I do remember the flashback with his brother :)
HurtMeSoul108 1 year ago
@EvilUser
Sayid could see it.
betterthanbooks 1 year ago
@betterthanbooks perfectly said :)
HurtMeSoul108 1 year ago
@lightsevor3069 Hurley had his awakening several episodes earlier, with Libby (he'd been helping Desmond ever since). As for Boone, well, its hinted that he knew from when we saw him in "LAX", since he seemed so Zen there. Which would make sense, since he was the first of them to die.

Here is why i think Sayid is with Shannon and not Nadia: Shannon could see Sayid for why he truly was. She could see past all the faults he made and see the true person he really is. And vice versa. Nadia on the other hand i don't think could have.
csibatmanfan 1 year ago
Been rewatching Lost and am almost done with S2. When Sayid told Shannon that he wouldnt leave her even if he got off the island I bought it. Sayid/Nadia would have been the cop out. Sayid/Shannon is earned and enriches the series on rewatch.
