I mean shakespeare was not a 'knave' in the least and yet could bring to life such characters as the assassins of the princes in richard III...so the same goes for the other way round: a moral tale does not necessarily come from a moral person. In addition this movie is an exact amoral (or antimoral) tale in that it is a sad reflection on the power of evil to actually overcome
not all artists are sincere, that is put their lives in their art...the truer the work of art to the artist's life the more we appreciate its value as moral teaching, but that is not essential for the esthetic value of the work...
Although the movie ends as such,I find it hard to believe that Judah would never get caught. Three people knew about the murder- Judah, his brother and the actual murderer. That's a fair amount of avenues for discovery.
You don't need to be miserable to feel sympathy for an unfortunate person. Also, I doubt all the money, success, and women in the world cannot make a human immune to misery. Everyone is foolish and thinks he has it worse than anyone else. Little kids in third world countries look at the miserable people in the United States and think the same you think about Woody Allen. It's all relative, and that's part of the movie' message.
I think it's just more true to an aspect of life that most people refuse to acknowledge, especially theists. What about those times God didn't answer your prayers? What about those times when things just didn't make any sense? And it ends with a bit of hope, although questionable as everything is, considering it's coming from the dead professor. It's just an exploration of some of the more unpleasant truths of life.

Many ultra rich, privileged people are depressed and cynical. What does his life have to do with whether he can create a meaningful film?
