I would like to take this time to point out that the piccolo would be much more effective in destroying one's ears than the tuba. I've played tuba for several years without any noticeable loss of my own hearing or that of others. My sister on the other hand, plays piccolo and wears ear plugs while doing so, so that she may further preserve her hearing.
