hi chrissy! im going to petco in an Hour to buy A guinea pig. Im not sure what In need to know and how to take care of it. This is the first time having a small rodent pet. Could you please tell me what I need to know to be A good Piggy owner. Also do you think it will get along with my puppie?
first question: You might want to bathe the guinea pig atleast once every other week or every week give it lots of vegetables especially carrots play with them alot to and get it lots of toys and maybe a partner so you need to invest in a second guinea pig
Second Question: it will get along with your puppie if your puppie gets along with because from my personal experience guinea pigs are extra friendly....... And yes i know im a bit too late!!!!

lols- it is just that pigs' skin dry out easily, and unless your pig has some skin infection and you saw a vet, then once a month is better. i have three; two girls and one boy pig. so i bathe them a day apart- i can't wash so many pigs at once! lols.
She is doing really well thank you. She did start having blood in her urine but a urinary test showed it is a UTI which is good. Baytril is clearing it up nicely. She used to have blood in her urine from the tumor but hasn't had any since she started her meds for the tumor. So I was relieved to find out it was just a UTI and not the tumor. She certainly is surprising me. I'm so blessed that she is still with me. Even the vet is surprised! She's a fighter. Thanks so much for asking about her. 8-)

I would recommend a C&C cage (cubes and coroplast). It's way cheaper and offers way more space. One level is really easy to make. You can get the cubes at Target in the closet aisle and call places that make signs for the coroplast. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Smories is doing really well right now. There's no way to tell if the tumor is growing so that's pretty scary. She is on a medication that helps slow the growth. I think it is working because she feels great and hasn't had any symptoms since starting it. Thanks!

Aw, thanks for asking. The vet found a cancerous tumor running from her bladder to the reproductive organs. :( He was unable to remove it because it would interfer w/ her bladder. Very devasting news. Smores healed up nicely and is good now. She is on a medication to slow the grow of the tumor. If it grows in certain direction and size, it will interfer w/ her eating and potty functions. :( We are hoping it will not grow. She would need to be put to sleep if this happens.
Well, she started having blood in her urine. We did test for a UTI and they took xrays for a kidney stone. Nothing showed up so we were able to narrow it down to a reproductive problem. She also started having fur loss on her right side- another sign.
We didn't know if it was an ovarian cyst or just reprod. problems. You don't know until they open them up to spay them. When they opened her up, they found the tumor which runs from her cervix to the outside of her bladder.
They could not spay her since it was connected to the bladder. The tumor didn't show up on the two xrays she had either. The vet said it looked like cancer. Very, very hard news to receive. I knew what time the surgery started so when they called I knew something bad was going on. There was no way they were done at that time w/ her surgery.
Smories is on Piroxicam, a med that slows the tumor's growth and alleviates any pain she could have. Smories is doing wonderful right now thank goodness.
Good question! Most people don't notice that. Smories doesn't get along with Peepers or Sweet Pea. They are okay with her but she fights with them. She's kinda a loner...it's weird. Most guineas love having a friend but she fights with other guineas and wants to live alone. She was our second piggy and was suppose to be Peepers friend but it didn't work out. Then we got Sweet Pea for Peeps. Thanks!
have you ever noticed that guinea pigs know the words yummies or yum yums like a dog knows treats, sometimes i think that guinea pigs are smarter than dogs
