I totally agree with the third hypothesis, people usually try and suppress or erase what they don't like in them self's, as well as try to project that aspect of their self hate out on those around them, not only to satisfy their own need to feel "normal" in their own eyes and societies but also to continual ensure that nothing arises to their concept of what is acceptable.

I was watching another video on YouTube (watch?v=0gABZn7T5zA) where someone was talking about how homosexuality is much more likely when the mother experiences a high level of stress during her pregnancy. If it is true that homophobes are likely to have same sex attraction, could that mean that pretty much everyone in the past before the 20th century was gay or bisexual? Life certainly was more stressful then, and today in the west people work less than ever before, and were richer than ever.

What the general public doesn't know is that "homophobia" is an official psychological term that means "fear of being perceived as homosexual." It's been around at least since I was in college 30 years ago. The current popular definition of "gay hater" is relatively new and grew out of a misunderstanding of the word's original meaning.
Fascinating theory. I dunno, I think that the polls indicate that our movement has brought about change the way we have been doing things, why change?...well besides changing for the better I mean. I think that gay people leaving out transgendered or not acknowledging bisexuals needs to stop. I hope gay kids two generations after us can look back with pride on the history of the movement, a history with dignity and taking the high rode. The thing is, when I finally accepted my homosexuality and came out, I was suddenly 6'2" and dressed like a metal head. I think the homophobes were afraid of me. So I had little actual hate speech said directly to me.
But I agree that a lot of homophobes are closeted.

If these people are gay, we as homosexuals ourselves should be the most understanding of it, because we've all been there, we've all been in that spot where we were scared to come out. I know these men may be running against us and our causes but if we tried to make a campaign out of this, it makes us look bad, it makes us look like we are trying to call them gay... that is just my opinion.

I agree. I have been pondering on this theory, due to the fact that I am quite the expert at discovering homosexuals and bisexuals. One huge indicator that may result in potential homosexuality are people who HATE gays. People who are truly str8 have no fear, it's natural, to an extent that being labeled gay will be trivial to them because deep down they know it's not true. Then again, tread along with care, I also do believe that SOME people out there are real homophobes indeed. haha.

There was also a study done a while back that showed a statistically significant correlation between degree of hatred towards homosexuals and same-sex attraction. Homophobes are fighting something within themselves.

What about the metrosexual phenomenon? It's becoming more societally acceptable for men to be into their looks and bodies. I think it's hard to discount the fact that men are becoming more sexually desireable not because they're handsome and rough and rugged but because they're "hot" and almost beautiful.

There was this experiment at the University Of Georgia, which showed, that homophobes are much more aroused by viewing gay male porn than non-homophobes. You can find lots of articles about it by doing a Google search with the keywords 'homosexual arousal georgia'.

I'm not sure about the whole 'homophobes are gay' theory mainly because most homophobes are verbally and physically abusive towards homosexuals and I think that if they were homosexual themselves they'd find a better way of covering it up besides drawing attention to their gayness by targeting a homosexual. Just my opinion

What the general public doesn't know is that "homophobia" is an official psychological term that means "fear of being perceived as homosexual." It's been around at least since I was in college 30 years ago. The current popular definition of "gay hater" is relatively new and grew out of a misunderstanding of the word's original meaning.

Fascinating theory. I dunno, I think that the polls indicate that our movement has brought about change the way we have been doing things, why change?...well besides changing for the better I mean. I think that gay people leaving out transgendered or not acknowledging bisexuals needs to stop. I hope gay kids two generations after us can look back with pride on the history of the movement, a history with dignity and taking the high rode. Im no fan of Ted, but I dunno about playing into fear.
