You're not going to see Battlefield 1944 unless you see Call of Duty return to World War II. Like it or not, the well-being and fate of these two games are inextricably linked together now and neither one will be willing to return to their roots, when a) they're looking to still expand and develop the identity of their franchise and b) have had great success with "modern" shooters. Battlefield is more likely to go in the direction of 2143, where they are "unique". But dare to dream. :(

@azahzahism If not, someone ought to start their own game company and blow all WWII shooters out of the water. Work on WWII, Vietnam, and Korea, but I would prefer the first two. Besides, if people are sick with WWII, then they will eventually tire of modern combat. I personally will never get into future war because the experience for me is not worth the time. I love to be seeing a rendition of combat history; being able to fire antique weapons and catch a glimpse of what the conflict was like.

BF2142 wouldnt suit frostbite as much as BF1944, much more scope for destruction.

A futuristic setting, by its very nature wouldnt have massive destructibility, while Europe in '44 is all bricks, stone wood and mortar, prefect shit to blow. the. fuck. up...

I'd actually like to see BF: Vietnam with BF3 engine. But this time focus the fights more around urban areas (like the Battle of Hue during the Tet Offensive). I'm just not a big fan of the whole WW1-2 setting, but that's my personal taste. I'd probably still play it if they release an expansion like that.
