Spotlight was just not a very enjoyable experience for any of the kids. It's really unfortunate because Amanda LOVES competing and this was just such a bad experience.
@taytaydancer1 *Unfortunately, Spotlight is not a very fair Competition anymore. When Amanda was at Touch of Class it was a very diff comp. They very much favored dancers from other studios over THE Element and it was VERY VERY OBVIOUS. I was not even at the Comp and heard this from almost everyone from the studio. It's really too bad because Amanda always use to love doing that comp. Regarding the DANCE DOWN, Amanda doesn't really like doing extra stuff at the comps. She enjoys the down time.

There's no denying that she's an amazing dancer, technique wise. The one thing I hae to say, and it isn't her fault since she doesn't choreograph, is that it's kind of choppy and has way too many turns and extensions and stuff. It's one thing to highlight specific abilities, but in this case it takes up too much of the dance. She's going to absolutely amazing one day.
Obviously she is very talented and disciplined. What I STILL do not understand is why such talent and discipline cannot stand on it's own without the need for provocative choreography and costume? She was 10 yrs old in this video, not 20, yet she looked like she could be at least 20. Parents, we should be demanding more appropriate choreography and attire for our young dancers and let their talent stand alone!

@ChristiannaCoplan123 haha welcome to the world of competitive dance. There are very few competitive studios that are careful about what their girls wear. It's one of the reasons why I decided to not do competitive dance, because I looked but I could not find a studio close to where I live that actually had some morals when it came to costumes.

@Miasmummy2497 seriously? Dance is a discipline, even the most artistic and expressive pioneers in dance come from intense training and instruction. When you don't have instruction all you have are people floundering around calling what they're doing "art" and "expression." Even artists and musicians go through serious instruction to hone their craft.
I actually think her arch is incredible! Especially on half toe...just watch her fuetes and needles. But also, she pointed her tows through the whole routine! She isn't just great at tricks but at personality through her movements and facial expressions. (Any 10 year old that can perform six revolutions in a turn I'd say is pretty darn good)
Good Job Amanda! She is REALY good. The only thing she needs to work on is going slower in places ( I have the same problem) but other then that she is amazing.
I have some pretty bad arches, but if you watch her turns it's not that her feet aren't flexible, it's that she doesn't use her feet.
I am not saying she does or doesn't have great feet, I am saying she doesn't portray her technique in the dance.
Wanna see a good all around dancer? come see the girl at my studio who placed in the top 12 last year for YAGP and is leaving for Gelsey Kirkland year round next year.
@idanceandsingalot she may use her feet...its hard to tell from a video and her technique is really good. and i agree with blaqkXcelebration she's only 10 years old and by the time she's 18 she's gonna be even more amazing. and top 12 is great but im sure this girl got like 1st overall and a SEVEN year old at my studio got first over all at nationals for all solos 7-12 and im not critizing amanda
she can turn, as in, she can get around. But her elevation on demi pointe is pretty bad.
Basically, I think jazz dancers like this, if trained form the age of like 4, can do turns and be really flexible, but that's about it. Doesn't impress me ;/
@idanceandsingalot not all dancers have a high elevation on demi pointe or as i call it releve, it is something u have to work and and/or born with. u use what u have and u probably don't really know what hers is like so please unless its nice dont say it. she's amazing and probably one of the better all around dancers out there...check out her tap and lyrical solos because they are amazing as well
I have no doubt that this girl will go very far and that she is extremly talented. However i have a few critisisms .. Theres is a lack of turn out in the routine and exspecially in spins .. also the parts between the moves are a bit sloppy and finally in leaps if you bend the back and push the back leg up there would be an improvement. Im just nit picking , surely a dancer as strong as this would still love to improve :)

And what I am saying is that dance is a beautiful expression that should not be molested or exploited byt the perverted interests of other. What undermines dancers, especially young dancers is putting them in choregraphy and costume that is intended to make them appear older and more sexual.

I think it is a BEAUTIFUL expression of ones self & the emotions in the music. However, I am in COMPLETE agreement. LITTLE girls ARE waaaay to exposed AND explioted in this industry. The sad thing is how many people (mostly children dancers it seems) will defend it by simply saying "well, everyone else does it."

@ThePerformingArtist7 This choreography IS sexual and for a 10 year old it is innapropriate. And actually what "ruins" the performance and the video is that it is choreographed with sexual overtones meant for an adult, not a child - no matter how skilled she is. And that is the point - she has great skill! So why is it the choreographer is so lacking in talent and imagination that they can't design a dance wihtout the sexual overtones? And WHY did the parents not protests to this exploitation!?

The music, choreography, and costume are put togther to promote a certain ideal - in this case it is one of a seductive adult woman ideal. She doesn't even look 10, she looks 20's. Her parents likely didn't protest because winning a competition was probably more important to them than their daughters safety and respect and that of little girls everywhere

As much as you would like for me to go away, THIS PROBLEM of exploiting young performers will not go away and someone needs to speak up about it. It will be me until someone else takes over because I am sick and tired of children being hurt over this complete lack of reverence on the part of adults. Are you the choreographer by the way or the parent? If so, you need to wake up before it's too late.

i love this girls talent... at age 10 too!
my only comment is on her outfit... i thinkits a ittle inapropriatte for a 10 year od girl to be wearing this outfit. im 17 and have been dancing for almost 15 years and have never worn anything that shows my body that much... and its not because i dont have that body or anything... cause i am in shape. i just dont approve of showing that much skins... dancing is about showing off your talent and how hard you have worked to come this far...

@ChristiannaCoplan123 haha welcome to the world of competitive dance. There are very few competitive studios that are careful about what their girls wear. It's one of the reasons why I decided to not do competitive dance, because I looked but I could not find a studio close to where I live that actually had some morals when it came to costumes.

When you don't have instruction all you have are people floundering around calling what they're doing "art" and "expression." Even artists and musicians go through serious instruction to hone their craft.

I actually think her arch is incredible! Especially on half toe...just watch her fuetes and needles. But also, she pointed her tows through the whole routine! She isn't just great at tricks but at personality through her movements and facial expressions. (Any 10 year old that can perform six revolutions in a turn I'd say is pretty darn good)

Good Job Amanda! She is REALY good. The only thing she needs to work on is going slower in places ( I have the same problem) but other then that she is amazing.

@xhollistergirl24 no, I mean her foot is barely off the ground.
I have some pretty bad arches, but if you watch her turns it's not that her feet aren't flexible, it's that she doesn't use her feet.
I am not saying she does or doesn't have great feet, I am saying she doesn't portray her technique in the dance.
Wanna see a good all around dancer? come see the girl at my studio who placed in the top 12 last year for YAGP and is leaving for Gelsey Kirkland year round next year.

@idanceandsingalot she may use her feet...its hard to tell from a video and her technique is really good. and i agree with blaqkXcelebration she's only 10 years old and by the time she's 18 she's gonna be even more amazing. and top 12 is great but im sure this girl got like 1st overall and a SEVEN year old at my studio got first over all at nationals for all solos 7-12 and im not critizing amanda

she can turn, as in, she can get around. But her elevation on demi pointe is pretty bad.
Basically, I think jazz dancers like this, if trained form the age of like 4, can do turns and be really flexible, but that's about it. Doesn't impress me ;/

@idanceandsingalot not all dancers have a high elevation on demi pointe or as i call it releve, it is something u have to work and and/or born with. u use what u have and u probably don't really know what hers is like so please unless its nice dont say it. she's amazing and probably one of the better all around dancers out there...check out her tap and lyrical solos because they are amazing as well

I have no doubt that this girl will go very far and that she is extremly talented. However i have a few critisisms .. Theres is a lack of turn out in the routine and exspecially in spins .. also the parts between the moves are a bit sloppy and finally in leaps if you bend the back and push the back leg up there would be an improvement. Im just nit picking , surely a dancer as strong as this would still love to improve :)
