  • It took only 2 years penn, not 60

  • The only pride that makes sense is pride in something which you have control over, meaning your own doings/accomplishments. Anything else, such as pride in a country, and for some people even in their dick's size (you can't make this shit up) is absurd.

Patriotism makes people easy to manipulate. Just look at Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia... and even the US nowadays.

  • Patriotism is taking pride in your country. I think it is healthy in the right amounts.

  • Sorry, but it was way worse during the bush administration. They made it a point to make you feel like a traitor if you disagreed with them. You may be getting that from obama supporters, just like republicans insist he in a nazi, just as the anti-bush side cheered during the bush administration.

Bottom line: Support of your president does not equal patriotism! Remember the Constitution of the United States of America! Screw your flaming parties.

  • Sorry, but it was way worse during the bush administration. They made it a point to make you feel like a traitor if you disagreed with them. You may be getting that from obama supporters, just like rapublicans insist he in a nazi as the anti-bush side cheered during the bush administration.

  • people generally dont give a fuck about anyone else. they want their guy to have power so they can have instated what they view as right. its about being right i suppose

  • I think that Obama does have good ideas (by that I mean I agree with what he "says"), but I just wish he would follow through with them.

  • I bet Penn doesn't feel the same way now!

  • @onepcwhiz Yeah, a lot of these Penn Says' are interesting in retrospect.

  • Patriotism doesn't mean liking whoevers in office, it means liking what your country stands for, the Constitution and its principles, not which jackass is president.

  • i dont get patriotism at all. Why should it even be good? I think being for president is different though. I dont think its patriotism.

  • God I hate these recently added ads...

  • Penn,

Good point. And since you've posted this, Obama has done NOTHING to decrease the powers grabbed by his predecessor.

However, to answer your question "Is this what it feels like...?" the truth is that this is what it feels like when you take a much needed dump, or maybe a much needed puke. It's RELIEF! The problem is that the bad feeling may just creep in again.

Also, how do the libertarians plan on controlling corporations which have more power than citizens, specifically re health?

  • Detroit is not fixed its royally fucked.

  • This is not an accurate description of how us liberals feel about Obama. Havent you noticed Obama's poll numbers going down lately? Well that's because we are pissed at him for being too conservative.

Now maybe you Libertarians should follow our lead and give up your childish infatuation with Thomas Jefferson.

  • Penn, you must not have been hanging out with Republicans during the Bush years.

  • ACORN? what the fuck? yeah the great evil acorn. obama's problems has nothing to do with wall st.

  • Reading list for Penn:

"Molon Labe" by Boston T. Party AKA Kenneth Royce

    and

    "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross

"The Creature From Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve" by G. Edward Griffin

Wake up, Penn. The battle for freedom is on. Yes, this is what it feels like, except that we're even further down the path of being sold chattel of the Federal Reserve...

  • Patriotism is the blood of a soldier, Patriotism is the questioning of government.

  • I won't lie I wanted Obama for president but I fucking hate the fact people blindly follow him. For example all the black kids in my neighborhood always talk about Obama yet know nothing about his views. They just like him because he's black(technically he isn't even fully that). I've been a witness to people talking about Obama yet say the dumbest shit I've ever heard. I'm not trying to sound racists, its just what I've witnessed over the passed months.

  • Gman420x, I know what you mean, but a word of caution. Sure, people aren't the brightest, and many look to the leaders they have chosen to support and paste their own ideas onto them. I heard the same thing coming from the mouths of blue collar folks over Ronnie Reagan. Even though Reagan totally screwed them time and again, they KNEW he was on their side! (?) As for kids, well hell, they're kids, and kids have heroes. At least Obama is a better choice than gangsta rappers or ball players.

  • Patriotism is ignorance. It is okay to love your country, and I don't mean the patriotism to love your troops and hoist your flag is ignorance, but the ignorance that Penn talks about. People like that are stupid.

  • Is it stupid to want freedom?

To be able to say, "Yes, you can trade freely with this person or nation." Knowing full well that your government isn't holding society's ability to achieve prosperity and wealth, down?

This is stupid? Since when is wanting freedom stupid? Since when is understanding what our founding fathers created our country for, stupid?

  • Patriotism isn't really wanting freedom. The way I have been seeing it is going over the top in trusting everything your government does. It is never stupid to want or peruse freedom. Although I do question if this country really is free that much anymore. Because of patriot act, and you can't film certain things anymore, you can't wear something in protest at a president or some big political rally.

  • Oh, sorry. I mis-read your post.

  • Oh.... never mind.

  • Penn, you and I don't agree on alot of things, but we do agree on this subject. The level of power that Obama appears to have and the fact that most aren't concerned or question it is reminiscent of Adolf Hitler. Hitler was immensely popular and quite the speaker. No one questioned his continual grab for power until it was too late. Not everyone voted for this guy and even some who did aren't pleased by the frenzy he's causing.

  • Wonderful speakers don't use 'uh' every five words.

  • Amen brother. We the people should make sure we keep the power, dont let it slip up to the top. But I feel the same as you, nutty patriotism is just it.

  • Penn,

I've been starting to follow you from the Bible post. I like you and respect the fact that you don't "tote" the line, but truly speak with an open mind. I am, or course, a Christian and one of those praying for you, but I want you to know that I really respect you and your opinions....at least the ones I have seen on here. I don't agree with them, but I respect your approach.

  • I come from a very serious Christian family and I can tell you with my perspective on prayer(even though I don't pray) that this person is speaking with all sincerity and not trying to push anything.

I don't believe in god but I know what the other side of the isle thinks. The reason why most Atheists aren't liked is because of comments like yours.

  • At least I don't go around saying to christians "I'll cite darwin for you"

  • Ya that would be kinda weird. People feel helpless, but want to do something so they like if they pray it'll make some positive difference.

  • So, instead of trying to affect the real world, they place themselves in the center of it and hope that that almighty imaginary friend of theirs will change the world for them.

That's not going for a positive change, that's being so incredibly self centered that it hurts.

If I'm sad, a hug or listening to me is something that helps, telling me that you'll pray for me is not. Praying isn't spending time on me, praying is spending time on you!

  • How is a prayer a selfish act when the person is praying for someone else's benefit? Even if it's a deluded cause, that person's prayer(unless as it may be) is not selfish.

Although, when a preacher gets in front of a mass of people and prays, that's a different story.

  • Dead Kennedys kick ass

  • Still we have to wait. Its not what you say its what you do. I hope Obama can handle power as he sounds like. If he doesn't there's definitely something wrong in the whole organization because no one has been able to handle power. I hate to judge people in those positions because I think its really tough making the right decision for millions.

Still politics is a concept like any other which you have to understand why it exists, if not you can't be politician...

  • I agree with this. Ive always felt 1 person having all that power seems kinda, eeemmm archaic. I don't know how it could work different and I don't have a solution but its just not right.

But I feel the Obama thing and I don't even live in the USA. I think Obama's buzz is not just patriotism is more than that. Its like FINALLY this guy sounds like a normal person, like one of us. An example for all the politicians in the world.

  • I just lost a lot of respect for Teller with his last few comments. No one with a brain or a conscience can think the marxist mutt's 'heart is completely in the right place" unless they're a commie like the mutt or a NWO hack who thinks the CFR wants what's best for Amerika.

The marxist mutt should be arrested, tried for treason and executed based alone on his voting record before entering the now 'red house.'

Go to gunownersdotorg to help you understand. Then follow my links.

  • It's always been the red (blood) house for many hundred years. And if you want to know what it feels like to be taxed to your balls, move to 'my' country, Sweden.

  • That's how it felt in Nazi Germany when the nazis were in power. Only we're not quite at the point where one can be shot for saying 'unpopular' things. That will come.

I've known a couple people who lived through that and they said the same is happening again here. That was before the marxist mutt lied its way into the now 'red house.'

The Amerikan Communist Insurgency only wants power.

Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first. Then share and prepare.

  • What you're describing isn't patriotism. Patriotism is love of country. What you're describing is love of a man. It's like dating a super model. You think she's awesome but all your friends think she's a controlling manipulative bitch. You'll keep making excuses for her until you get that baby batter off your brain.

  • They want you to think it's love of country. Here in America it's supposed to be love of Liberty. But most have forgotten what that is and don't want to know, even though the word is on our coins.

Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first. Then share and prepare.

  • I totally agree with this. What buggs me is there are so many blindly following Obama without even understanding the issues. Obama will save us, dont bother me with the facts. The only things I really disagree with Obama on are the size of gov in general and the 2nd. I want smaller gov and the 2nd should not be limited in any way. Obama wants the best for this country as we all do but I do find it a bit unsettling that he has this huge group that worships him. I dont want any pres to have that.

  • He's surprised that people who didn't like the idea of having an incompetent sociopath in power wouldn't be as opposed to having a person in power appearing thoughtful and smart? Really? That's what baffles him about his friends and acquaintances?

I think he truly has no idea just how far off mainstream he is with his radical libertarianism...

  • so is it radical anarchism or radical libertarianism? and perhaps your should research some definitions before you start calling names.

is there a problem with being "off-mainstream" ? or does it just make you uncomfortable to hear someone with a dissident view?

Although, i really shouldn't be suprised. this is exactly what he is talking about in the video, its almost impossible to criticize Obama because hes got this nutty fanbase that gets personally offended. (your one of them).

  • Well, I called him anarchist here because he apparently clearly wants no ruler. That's what "anarchy" means -- "no rule."

Whether that's good or bad is another matter; I was just commenting on his surprise about this not being the attitude of other people around him.

As for dissidents making me uncomfortable, well, libertarians do, because they seem to want a bully for a government, which consists out of nothing but police, the military, and courts -- and they don't find that dangerous...

  • I'm not sure where you are getting all of this stuff man. at no point in this video, or an other for that matter, does Penn state that he wants anarchy.

and you have got to tell me about these dangerous Libertarians, I've been one for years and have been under the impression that we were working towards a government that is LESS of a bully.

where exactly are you getting your definitions and deriving your conclusions?

  • I'm sure you think libertarians work for a government that is less of a bully -- the same way that the communists of the 19th century thought they were working towards a government that is less of a dictatorship.

But there is something called the law of unintended consequences, and if all you give the government is a hammer then every problem will look like a nail to it. It will become a bully.

Libertarian-inspired blind spots have, in fact, contributed to the America's bullyish nature...

  • hm... so by your logic, based around this Murphy-type law, whatever we work towards, we can expect the exact opposite to happen. so are you working towards this "bully" type authority in the hopes that the oppisite will happen? your beginning to not make sense here, i gotta say.

so break it down for me, if i want an extremely limited government that stays out of my business and the business of the rest of the world, where do i start?

  • and could you please give me some examples of these "libertarian blind spots" that have made us bullies?

  • Well, you tend to vote for the candidate who goes, "government is evil and scary and doesn't work, so vote me into government!" That's how you got Reagan and the Bushes, who promised smaller government and then made it bigger and gave you prohibitionist crap like the War on Herbs and the War on Angst...

Whenever someone promises to extend the social infrastructure and education, etc. your red flags go up. But if someone promises to "increase national security" with more force it doesn't...

  • You can never have a government as extremely limited as what you envision, because then some private interests will become the de-facto feudal government and run things -- only they don't have to worry about being voted out of office if they screw up because they were never elected. A plutocracy which makes the laws keeping the money and power concentrated in their own hands is like a monarchic aristocracy.

Look at some of the South American banana republics and this is what you would become.

  • So as for a more positive criticism, what you need is a government that doesn't just have a truncheon but also also does some basic good, such as ensuring basic food safety, basic universal health care, and basic education. You can argue about the details, but you shouldn't about the existence of these social networks per se. Agricultural subsidies will always have to exist in some form, government provided healthcare and pensions will, and so will tax-financed education...

  • "You can never have a government as extremely limited as what you envision."

I agree with this. That's why I AM a radical anarchist.

  • See you on the barricades...!

  • Maybe you're confusing, intentionally or not, real anarchists who want no govt. at all, with fake anarchists who are really communists and use 'anarchy' as a way to bring about their revolution, after which we'll all be slaves, or at leas the survirors will be slaves. I won't be alive because I'll busy myself killing as many "Liberal" freaks as I can...

Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first. Then share and prepare.

  • I don't think it's considered goofy to revere a statesman like FDR even to this day. A historical perspective may make it a little easier to be objective and see the flaws, but how are you really going to piss on his record of helping to win World War II and introducing the New Deal, leading to over a half century of unprecedented prosperity and stability?

Geez, would I feel like an idiot if I still thought Roosevelt was a pretty good president, actually...!

  • HAHA!

    Penn, your brilliant!

  • Is "brilliant" what the kids call radical anarchism these days? Huh...!

  • Within a year most of the country will be sick of Obama.

  • Yeah, the part I hate the most is the unquestioning loyalty people give him. I'm tired of listening to folks who don't watch the news talking about how great Obama is and all the things he does. All power corrupts, and to have someone with that much power and so many loyal "fans" scares the bejesus out of me, things could go south real fast . . .

  • THere is no such thing as a benevolent dictator

  • "makes me happy im not in america"

    by:BalooDumptruck (2 weeks ago)

FUCK YOU IN THE NECK. If obama fucks up he gets booted in 4 years hell we can even inpeach a persentdent in less time than that and we done it for even stupid things like clinton getting a blow job. This is not patriotism by me telling that shit head fuck him in the neck. He is a fucking idiot.Go learn about our way of doing things. ALso we can bringe power down thats why we can buy guns and we can make anew government ifweCHOSe

  • Put on your tinfoil hat and worry about Major League Baseball.

And president is the word that you are stumbling for.

  • I'm rather scared myself. T-shirts, water, shoes, watches, portraits, frankincense oil, radio stations, church services, kisses on the cheek...all - dedicated - to him - and his family. It's really weird and creepy and reminds me of all the Kim-jung-il worship shrines you see in North Korea. You know, people should just stop to think about all the human stuff he does, so they can calm down. He takes dumps, catches colds, scratches his crotch...he's just a human being like anyone else.

  • ah, the old Glass 'n' salt sea,not a very good vacation locale for sure but the gift shop rocks.

  • Obsession and infatuation (based upon deceit) is much different than patriotism. Patriotism has nothing to do with one man, or his ideals. Patriotism is exactly what you said about gun control. Give me liberty, or give me death. Live free or die. Being willing to do anything to save the constitution (liberty) - that is true patriotism.

  • I feel that Obama is too popular. It's definitely there to the point where people often get frowned upon if they say they don't agree with Obama.

I liked Obama at first but soon it started to feel like his popularity comes from his charisma and being the Bush replacer. He is a great speaker and a performer. All the expressions and careful selecting of words to make the message as popular as possible. It's charming but it feels like his priority isn't what he says but how he says it.

  • Jello is amazingly long-winded and totally incapable as a performer (lacking a band)

  • ALL Patriotism is nutty anyway. It's one of the many things most people have great enthusiasm for that I do not understand and cannot relate to. Intrinsic in patriotism is the assumption that your country is better than others, and by extension that we Americans are somehow more virtuous or of better quality than other people. I don't get it. Patriotism has always seemed an entirely instinctive, irrational, stupid emotional phenomenon to me whereas others regard it as a virtue. I dont get it.

  • I think Nutty Patriotism was goin' on after 9/11. THAT Nutty Patriotism.

This stuff with Obama might be the same type of thing, but nowhere near as dangerously, mindlessly, goose-steppingly insane as the Nutty Patriotism right after those people flew the planes into the buildings.

  • Care to explain why support of one's country after a disastrous attack that caused thousands of peoples' death is nutty?

  • I never said it was.

Sure, after all those people died, there was a lot of support & compassion, and that's all well and good. BUT at the same time there was way more of an unhealthy mob-mentality. "Kill the sandniggers!!!" "If you aren't with us you're against us! Stand behind the president and agree with him or you're a traitor! Kill the peaceniks!!!" "America, love it or leave it! Kill Kill Kill!!!!!" THAT's what I have a problem with. It's stupid. Really, really stupid.

  • Also, when a comparable event happens in another country, we don't care as much. Why? 'Cuz they arent Americans. I don't see how it's any different if thousands die in some 3rd world country because of a nat'l disaster or genocide vs. thousands of Americans in a terrorist attack. Shouldn't we be equally concerned? We're not, because people have an instinctive "hierarchy of loyalty based on proximity", which has an adaptive value, but it's still nothing more than animal instinct, not a virtue.

  • Well put Nephronial.

  • Thanks!

I was just thinking patriotism is the last sacred cow.

Even religion isnt as sacred as patriotism. Guys like Dawkins, Maher, Hitchens, & Penn can be 100% unapologetically critical of religion and, though controversial, theres still a fair amount of people on the same page with them. What would happen if someone talked about patriotism as scathingly as Dawkins does about religion? Not many people would back that person up.

Patriotism is more sacred than religion, but just as dumb.

  • Bush was extremely popular 2001-2003

  • But bush sucked.

  • makes me happy im not in america

  • i think patriotism means or at least should mean you love your country and everything it stands for and not agreeing with every single thing the president says or does. you should support your president and want him to do the country well but that doesnt mean you should back him up and thank him for every single thing he does. More freedom and less government, give me liberty or give me death!

  • I thought I was in the same type of circle.....I was wrong.

One of my friends fell in love with Obama, but fell out of love with him after doing some serious studying about "the power" so called. America, if viewed as a single institution, wields far too much power and constantly ignores the Constitutional framework that was so ingeniously designed.

As Obama said "do not ask how big government is, ask if it works"

    Scary words right there.

  • @littleredbirdy So basically you side with the right? LOL big government little government. The problem is a currupt government, but I guess they "you'll have that".

  • It's sad that so many people have forgotten that the Constitution was intended to limit the power of government in our lives. Obama's every word is filtered through David Axelrod and he can't speak when he's not reading a teleprompter. Penn--You're a MUCH better extemporaneous speaker than our President could ever hope to be.

  • Patriotism is one of those words that is used way to much. Its a scary scary word, people give it to much meaning and power. If you dont 'love' this country your not patriotic and can be killed and attacked in the right circumstances. If you bitch about the problems in the country, rather than fixing them people focus on that word 'hes not patriotic' or some bullshit like that. Its used against us...Im not going to victim to that.

  • awsome

  • Penn: (1) THANKS for all you do - we need more "Bullshiat" from you guys!

    (2) This is the most terrifying time in "our" century. Never before has there been this sort of messianic insanity.

PLEASE -- as I and many I know have done -- read the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution, then consider what they're doing.

They swore only to uphold and defend the Constitution.

They commit treason with their every action. They're killing our Republic.

    We are the sane "remnant."

  • Patriotism is deeply troubling. Is there anything more arbitrary to be a source of pride? A person can (somewhat justifiably) claim to be "proud" of Obama if she supports him, but voting is little more than a symbolic gesture of approval. Moreover, being a citizen of such-and-such a nation is involuntary, practically speaking. Pride re: actions for which one is directly responsible is reasonable, but of country, politicians, etc. -- it is not "justified" nor "unjustified", but mere nonsense.

  • Penn, many people fail to understand what patriotism really means - even proclaimed patriots. Its not love for one political guy or the other, its certainly not supporting the government. It's loving the beautiful land of our families and relatives

I've always said: a man could be the biggest totalitarian socialist alive, but when their house is burned down, their property stolen, and their family taken away, its only then that they know what it really means to be a libertarian - and a patriot!

  • Cult of Personality, whether it is Kennedy, Hitler, Reagan, or Obama, is really fucking dangerous. I'll stick with glorifying Rock stars - WAY SAFER!

  • And someday people will look back and see how the left has distorted the conversation in this country and vow never to repeat it. We live in not so different times then our forefathers.

"People who forget history are doomed to repeat it."

  • Patriotism is a mental disorder.

  • To answer your question: yup. This is exactly how it feels.

  • "Fuck patriotism" - Bill Hicks

    OK?

  • Has Penn forgotten the nationalistic fervor after 9/11?

Suddenly flags were EVERYWHERE and everyone was pro-war and you couldn't criticize the President without being called a traitor, even as he and Congress were passing fascist laws like the Patriot Act...

That, to me, was the scariest political moment in my life. This Obama-love is nothing compared to that insanity.

  • Doesn't his position already bring him too much power?

History has proven that a lack of popularity doesn't stop a bad president from making huge mistakes and leading us in the wrong direction.

I see greater benefits from having a really popular president who takes advantage of our countries desire to serve. It is nauseating to watch though a grown woman mouth, "I love you to the president."

I think a lot of it is excitement over the fall of the last administration channeled to our new leader.

  • Follow your instincts Penn because they are right (no pun intended). The way people are lapping up everything Obama regurgitates is cause for concern. Lucid analysis has been suspended for the most part. It's time to start slapping people back into conscious awareness. I think we're witnessing the advent of the "Groupie Generation". I'm all for respecting a person who earns respect, but worship, or blind acceptance is not something I'm willing to give to any human personality.

  • That's a path to disaster. - Texcentric

  • should a leader (or an entire government) have as much power as obama? look at history and tell me.

i would have to agree with Penn; regardless of who you voted for or what your beliefs are, we shouldn't have someone who holds this much power over us.

  • Unfortunately others will never see it this way.

  • Excellent video! Penn says it exactly as it is.

  • 6 stars........preaching to the choir with me bruddah.

  • Penn, you're an analytical person. If you have an open mind, check out the Alex Jones show. Now I'm not telling you to believe what he says. But you should research the information that he gives for yourself and what you learn will blow your mind. I'm a freethinker just like you. I know that jesus and satan are bullshit, but it is a fact that we are heading for a one world government. It is so obvious. But of course you need to judge that for yourself. 911 was an inside job.

  • you freakin' rock Penn!

  • Yes....minimum government....and you hit the nail on the head when you said you are afraid that you are coming off like you are bashing obama. I always believed that the united state of

America was the one place that you did not have to be afraid

to voice your opinion, even if it was bashing someone in power.

  • PEN>>>>> ur kinda on the right page ..we want less power! BUT , obama is NOT my pres. b/c of that he wasn't born in the u.s.a.

    2. HE'S AN 32ND DEGREE FREEMASON

    3. HES AN CFR MEMBER - IN WHICH THE CFR IS ILLUMINATI.

    4. HE WENT TO THE BUILDERBERG MEETING IN 08.

ANYBODY THAT IS IN A SECRET SOCIETY IS A TRAITOR!

Penn.....people in America will not wake up till the last minute..by that time..its to late for em!!

I wish you guys in Hollywood would help us patriots out a little!!

    doc

  • who cares if hes a mason? the free masons is not some government controlling body its just a fraternal brotherhood

  • iamover18all ...ur blinded...or you might be a Freemason..never know..why don't you research the Freemasons..and who controls the Freemasons ...the Jesuits..who controls the Jesuits ...the crypto Jews! learn the real world.and whats happening in our country.

    doc

  • iamover18all...and do you think that a pres. or vice pres. runs this country..or even congress..no they don't ..they are puppets for the new world order top thugs like the rothchilds ..Rockefeller and then all the top secret societies..like freemasons illuminati jesuit order the knights of malta...etc!!

it's time to wake up instead of smoking ur pot!!

    doc

  • thank you for your wisdom

  • What's your proof that Obama is a Mason? I think you are mistaken.

  • brianbozowski>>>>> watch?v=Ftj4nbFP5yw&feature=related...just watch and theres tons of info on the internet..it's ur job too research..not mine..im already awake..if you want the truth bout the whole secret societies..go to our new video..and watch and see all the secret societies listed!!

    doc

  • I researched and found nothing, that's why I asked. So you have no proof. Here's the deal, Obama is not a Mason but I hear he is black - half black at least, and there's proof.

  • brianbozowski....you cant be that dumb dude...come - on dude..theres tons of proof on the internet..quit being fucking lazy and do ur own research..theres tons of videos even on yt..quit making excuses.

wake up and smell the coffee dude!

    doc

  • hahahahaha, look at my favorites and tell me I don't check things out. I'm telling you Obamas not a Mason...and now I'm telling everyone who reads this that you're full of it. This conversation is over.

  • Two words Doc.

Tinfoil Hats. Want to buy those? Cause I think I could get loads of money selling them.

  • But this isn't patriotism. No one is saying my country right or wrong. People are not crazy patriotic. They are crazy for obama.

They aren't all American chants. They are nutty for thier political stripe to be in big time power for the changes they want. The changes they want for themselves. Not because the want the US to be like this, but because they want to live in a country as they invisioned.

I think you are conflating Obama enthusiasm with patriotism and even more so with jingoism

  • I don't know if Obama has so much power, himself. But I believe that certain elements believe that he does. Because a public figure is popular, that does not equal power. But of course, with this current situation, lines have been drawn in the sand along ideological terms (as they always have been).

Is this what it feels like to be surrounded by patriotism, I don't believe so. This is nothing like Soviet Rule!

Dissent is still patriotic and always will be.

  • "Patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings." Bob Dylan Thanks for your comments Penn.

  • u r a fuck

  • I like Obama, But I agree. He does have to much suport. Heck it is almost religon level worship

  • F osoma and i am a democrat. it is the same shit that happen with the governator. the governor of california.

People are just jumping on the bandwagon full force.

they are in for some serious dissapointment.

  • It occured to me while watching this that Law is irrelevant under the most charismatic leaders (Cults of personality).

Enough people within and without government are willing to follow, so that laws are either changed or ignored, "as necessary."

As I saw on a WWII doc., when a boy asked what National Socialism was, his father said "National Socialism is the will of the fuehrer."

  • Penn...you are not alone. Glad you articulated the problem as well as you did. I have no idea of your past politics, nor do I care at the moment. What I do care about, is a certain group of people listen to you who are drunk on Obama and I hope you helped them understand the dangerous path they are taking us down...big government is bad...period.

  • I thought I really disliked Penn and Teller years go, but Penn seems to be a really smart decent guy.

However, I'm not sure I understand (1:33) "I wasn't a small government guy," yet (4:05) he wants less government power. Maybe more social care but less military, but I think they tend to go together.

  • Blind support for any politician is VERY dangerous! Blind nationalism is also dangerous. Blind opposition is dangerous, too, but in a different context.

  • I think Ill have a kid, a boy or Girl. I will train him/her to be the next President of the United States of America. Half Mexican and Russian that will be a great combination.

  • on your mexican side: where do your ancestors com from??

cause all latin america is very very mixed, alot of them have indiginous blood(aztec, mayan, incas, native american, and so forth) and some have mixed bacground such as Spanish(main) French(2nd) Portugal(2nd also) italian, roman, russian, german, british, asian, african..etc.etc.,)

so on your mexican side where do your ancestors come from??

  • obviously spanish/indigenous

  • cool!

but;'a mexico doesnot only have WHite spanish and indigenous mix, its others too,k anywa

    have a nice day

  • every country has other races, very good daniel.

  • spanish,French and Native.

  • Yes, it is nutty Patriots. I never thought Id worship or make it look like worship to a complete stranger that ruled over us, and with Obama, well I like him a lot. I must say we are a little crazy, whether we like him or not, the conservative hate him, but only because so many love him.

  • thank you penn, your concerns are justified but obama doesnt have the real power...

  • Well, Penn, I don't believe it is good to rail against the gov't just because it is the gov't. The problem has always been with tyranny, not the power itself. Gov't's are absolutely indispensably necessary. But there should always be a checks and balances. The US was the first country to institute such practices, something which is very commendable. The greatest advocates of dissent were those in power. Don't forget that. It was the Founding Fathers who preached it, and it were they in power.

  • Obama;s spendulus bill will cause what was a recession to become a depression 2.0 for our kids and future generations. Check back with us Penn after four years. By then our tax bill goes off the charts. The honeymoon will soon be over........no surprise here...Love will fade away to real criticism

  • Lesser of two evils imo.

  • I DONT THINK THAT MATTERS DUDE, WHAT HE WAS SAYING IS I NEVER FELT LIKE THIS, THIS IS WHAT LOVING YOUR COUNTRY FEELS LIKE Maybe Obama will suck, but the thought about MY COUNTRY voting for this man and being a part of this patriots is nice.

  • How do we know he is a great president? He's been office less than 2 months. I think we mistake him as a great president with hating the Bush Admin.

  • You'll probably never know how lucky you are! I wish we had ONE THIRD of that kind of patriotism where a President proposes and people -actually- listen to what he has to say instead of bashing him around for having an idea! I'm not saying it's all the time... but it's most of the time! And if that kind of "love" (I call support) for a President seems ridiculous in the future - well... what the heck! You are still lucky!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm happy to see more solidarity of Americans myself, just so long as we ALWAYS make room for dissent. I voted for Obama happily and I think that now is the time to hold his feet to the fire, not just chug the Obama-Koolaid because he's won. Always question those in power over you, be it government or private power. Power has to be justified or fought. And just because "my guy" won the presidency doesn't change that. I wish more Obama supporters would keep that in mind.

  • The United States today is so far away from the ideals that the founding fathers had in mind. Years of perversion of the Constitution has caused us to become what our ancestors fought against in 1776

A government with full control of its people.

  • Penn, you say it well. From the perspective of a "punk" of Gen X (whatever that means, since generations seem to be popping up every five years or so), I went through the same experience. While many of us libertarians/anarcho-capitalists recognized that it was the mechanism that was dangerous, the so-called anti-authoritarians were only against the personality in power at the time. They had no prob if it was their person in power. Dangerous mojo... Be Seeing You!

  • "I've never been alive during a popular President."

    Huh?

As misguided as Bush was, have you seen his ratings after 9/11 were sky high!

It was very confusing, Bush was popular for something he failed to protect us from, and everyone stood behind him!

Then he abused all the worldly goodwill he had acquired because he listened to the little red Cheney on his shoulder!

Extremely Nutty BLIND patriotism before the Iraq war,

    2002-2003.

Why not mention Bush as a BAD example?

    P.S. I voted for Barr!

  • P.S. I threw my vote away

  • Wow, glad I clicked the link man, your cool and I agree on all fronts, Subscribing for you great insights. keep it up ^^

  • I totally agree with you, Penn! The Obama worship really scares me. Even my anti-government brother seems to like him too much (although he's already disagreed with a couple of things.) As to what you said about your circle of friends, I remember that Clinton was really worshiped by a lot of people at first, but I was in an anti-Clinton crowd, so I didn't have to deal with that.

I do think, though, that Obama's popularity will decline soon enough. That's happened with all popular presidents

  • woo Dead Kennedys!

  • haha ''goofy'' was the perfect word. I support our president, and I'm very glad he supports science ... I'm just not so fast to bow down to the obama.. it's wierd.. he's not the answer to everything.

  • I enjoy your perspective on things, and i and im sure others would like to hear your thoughts about the NWO.

  • I <3 you. Totally agree with the power thing, freaks me out that there are some americans who said that they're finally proud to be an american, its scary to see people worship him like a god.

  • I love Jello Biafra's spoken word about the same as the songs, check him out.

  • Yes

  • By the way Penn, I have to agree with you whole heartedly. The social circle I was a part of at my high school was always "against the power" but now they are going crazy for Obama. People are saying that this is the first time they have ever been proud to be an American. I'm going crazy. The amount of power he has, and the way people love it just scares the shit out of me.

  • He's not a conservative, is what I mean by no. Conservatives don't stand for true liberty and small government. At all.

  • Penn is a libertarian, which is a REAL conservative.

  • There are a great deal of people who strongly disagree with the new president. You will be hearing their voice soon as this power issue is out of total control!

  • Obama is a Zionist puppet.

Zionists control the media and the media controls the minds of most Americans. Americans pay the illegal IRS tax and with that money the Zionist do wars.

A never ending chain of problems, the solution? Anarchy.

  • So that means I can stab you right? Cause Anarchy is just chaos. No order. Might is right. If I can take what I can it is mine.

Oh, and I can sell you a tinfoil hat whiles I am stabbing you right?

  • Why would you stab me?

  • "Why would you stab me? "

An excellent question. Saber, do you believe that your fellow man is a bloodthirsty cannibal just below the surface?

And much as I hate violence, I hate a monopoly on violence more.

  • I don't love the president.
