@xstaticxgpx Because the live audience became too difficult to work with. They'd hoot & holler for a minute when some popular character showed up and it made getting on with scenes difficult. Whenever Kramer first arrived the show would need to stop entirely for half a minute just so the audience would settle down. That got to be a pain in the ass. It's all on the DVD commentaries.
