Gun defenses are good, but the knife defenses ... c'mon. Seriously. Who the heck steps forward while thrusting a knife at a victim? And who actually just leaves their arm fully extended like that when they stab? Anyone seen how a criminal stabs a victim in real life? Up close, rapid little short strokes as they repeatedly poke their victim to death ... and it's usually from behind, unannounced, not in some Hollywood style face-off. Real fights are faster and WAY uglier than most people believe.
Well, it could depend on your distance from them. And you are right, you might know the basics, but in a real mugging, you must be fast, you won't get another chance.
@MrLeicamaster Well, our 5th kyu lesson has more knife training, they are in the 'BASICS OF NINJA TRAINING' black belt course (instant downloads.) And there are all kinds of other weapons lessons throughout the whole course, too. (Mostly we put up "review and basics" stuff on this channel. Go to our web site for others) If you want to see the course book with a list of all the stuff in the video download course you can send me a message with your email address and I will email it to you. -JD
@darkwriter77 These are intended to be basic training videos that merely illustrate potential scenarios for students. Obviously, everything is slowed down and exaggerated on purpose so that students can examine the hypothetical situation and potential maneuvers. You are obviously correct that a real situation would not look like this of course.
that was a pretty good video, one thing i would humbly like to point out is that when disarming someone with a knife the key element to being successful is controlling the elbow. the reason for this is that even if you contain the wrist, they could still stab or cut you by simply changing their body angle and repositioning the arm to gain the leverage and power necessary to strike. by controlling the elbow and leaving only the shoulder mobile, you decrease their chances of this. best wishes
Anyone who knows working with sharp knives should never direct the edge towards us. An attack is not slow and orderly. Spoke a lot of stress. addition, the adversary will not leave you free to do this technique. Going to put many obstacles and straining, making it dangerous.
@davichuuuu -The thing with knife defense is it is supposed to protect yourself from getting stabbed, slashed, etc in the vital areas that could really cause damage, it is not to protect yourself completely from every little cut you may sustain on the arm or whatever from doing these techniques. Besides, its either you don't try the technique and get killed or try it and have a better chance of living if the attacker is going full force and speed.
When you use the defense against the pistol. I am under the idea that the working parts will remove your fingers if you hold the top. Am I wrong? Do I see it wrong? Do you put your thumb between the hammer? Please let me know.
"We seriously doubt that the working parts of the gun would actually remove fingers. It may however, cut your hand, and the slide moving at that speed would probably be sharp enough to draw some blood and pinch some skin. In our opinion, this is an acceptable result of controlling the weapon in this scenario. "
Most automatic pistols have a push safety. That means if you move the slide even a little it won't fire. I would never do it but in theory if someone has a pistol with the muzzle pressing into you, pushing into the muzzle will make the gun safe. This is a feature of Glocks, pistols in the 1911 family, Heckler and Kochs and many more. It is not a feature of pistols like the Ruger Hunter and other pistols that don't use a slide mechanism.
@mouxou97 Thank you. I was told this during pistol practise with the british millitary useing 9mm browning handgun. Pistol techniques are not taught in our club as it would be rare to come up against this in the UK. However knife is always a main part. We use rubber knives and sometimes have very fast sparring matches.
@mouxou97 wow didnt know that, helpfull little fact but how do you know if its a safe gun or not?aspecially in a situation that u would need 2 defend urself
@hypnosqurile I would never in a million years test it. I think these techniques are valuable to learn, but if someone is pointing anything more powerful than a pellet gun at me, they can have my wallet. If it was obvious they were planning on killing me, I'd probably run and hope I could get 20 or 30 feet on them before they got over the shock of it. Pistols are not very accurate and there aren't too many people who can shoot worth a damn beyond 15 feet.
I cannot fualt the use of Taijutsu it is perfect. My only question here is when you hold the pistol on the top as it goes off would you not lose your fingers? As the working parts fly back! I have thought about this and practise this technique holding the thumb and then controling the blade of the hand and the grip on the pistol. Am I right to be concerned? Or are you placing your thumb between the hammer?
I like all your techniques and I train daily. One thing I notice though, with the gun technique, you always depend on him to be pushing forward with a gun. Whenever I practice a technique like that, people always want to pull away as soon as they see movement, and it's the same way of the street. Most police situations deal with suspects at c lose distance, but not always that close. Just my humble opinion.
great taijutsu. 5 stars thanks for sharing. i use air soft too. i have a airsoft m16 ak47 and pistol. they are great for this type of training. way better than rubber guns. i also like to take gun away and click button to remove clip and as if falls kick it away or variations. fun real training. great video
I was born with fast reactions like in these situations and know how to reach to a gun or knife (Maybe i was a born ninja) xD

@darkwriter77 Those are great points and some of these scenarios could come in war zones, not always muggings.

so....would the moveing parts of the gun...when fired...not cut/pinch ...and make the defender let go in pain, thus leaveing him to just get shot?
