  • I was at Gravelly Tuesday and Monday. Tuesday night a US Airways had to abort its landing due to the plane that was taking off was to slow. Then a Continental 737 had to abort due to the same reason. Then a nother plane(I forgot the airline) had to do a touch-n-go bc the wind pushed it from behinde and it couldnt land.

  • Hehe, love living in Arlington. Visit Gravelly atleast 3 times a week.

  • I think the plane that landed before you took off was the us airways-piedmont plane that sorta has both.

  • That sound was not actually the engine, it was the flaps being changed. They are the things on the wings that move in and out. It helps the air flow by the wings.

  • We leave to go on our 8th grade trip to dc on jan 16th, so in like 10 days. We are taking off and landing here.....

  • Yeah, we went there for our 8th grade trip too. It was a blast!

  • what sounds like a dog barking?

  • That was the sound of the engine, I was seating just above

  • ERRRR! - Good try though. Pilot just upped the main gear, that's all.

Quick take off, fast rotation! You got off the ground fast there. Too bad you got cheated: take-off was in the opposite direction of the hair-raiser between the pentagon and lincoln memorial!

  • actually the sound gburgwill is talking about is the wheels coming into the bottom of the plane right after take-off

  • hey thats America West Airlines

  • whens the last time you heard the landing gear being retracted and made a squeeky sound. it was most likely the flaps being adjusted, followed secondly by what the author said the engine, and maybe possible the wheels being a distant third.

  • @gburgwill2008

Actually its the Power Transfer Unit. It transfers power between hydraulic systems, because of the landing gear being raised.

  • I'ts gravelly point:)

  • Yes there is a park there - its better for takeoffs though.

  • SEE WHERE THE AIRPLANE LANDED. thers a park where the airplanes go right over your head over ther
