RMS Queen Mary as SS Poseidon

Does anyone know if she was still able to sail on her own by 1972?

Or she had already been deprived from its power plant?

My question, as in Titanic is, why, is after the ship is submerged, the lights are still all on? In Titanic, even though DC dont "blow up" as bad as AC if shorted, still, it should of did total disaster on the ships electrical system. Things should of blew up, shorted out, went dark, but yet, the lights burned bright, even lights, under water... I am curious, about taking 10 9 volt batteries, powering a 40 watt light, under water, at the same salinity of sea water, and seeing what happens...

It's not a model it's the actual ship... It was REmodeled but is the actual ship that was used in world war ii. The ship was a liner but was used as a troop transport and was also the fastest ship at the time. (outrunning German ships and U-boats. I've been on the queen Mary and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

The huge model of Queen Mary used in the Poseidon Adventure is at the LA Maritime Museum in San Pedro, CA. The model was based on the Queen Mary after her rebuilding in Long Beach and features the alterations made to the ship in 1968-1971.

You know, how The Poseidon Adventure came to be was that the author Paul Gallico was on RMS Queen Mary, who would later be SS Poseidon, When she was hit by a tidal wave broadside & almost capsize. The Poseidon Adventure was first being written When Queen Mary retire in 1967.

When I think of Poseidon, I think of the Queen Mary. Queen Mary is the greatest Ocean Liner of all time & The Poseidon Adventure made even more famous.

Everytime I watched The Poseidon Adventure, I would say "Hello Queen Mary. How my favorite Star Queen?" I like the new poseidon, but the movie would have been better if they had Queen Mary 2.

This is a really well put together sideshow.  The only thing I dislike about it the music from the newer Poseidon doesn't fit well with the 1972 version.

i liked this alot - the classic old "POSIEDON" with the

music of the 2005 remake.......

i dont know what it is about the original POSIEDON ADVENTURE,

but all these years later i still get a jolt when i find little gems

like this......

I remember seeing this movie as a kid when it came out in '72. The opening credits roll over shots of the Poseidon weathering heavy seas - they are some of the best model & water effects ever done. And it's all set to a great score by John Williams.

The original version is much better than the 2006 one. In the new one you can guess who will live and who will die, whereas in the 72 one it felt completely when some of the people die
