Hindus are not Christians so obviously they aren't gonna follow the Bible. In Christianity, we are told not to worship or keep idols because we believe that God has revealed to us that his image is greater than anything made with human hands and we are to understand that WE are God's image on earth. Hindu's believe that the idols are only reresentation of God and show their devotion by using visual beauty to connect to the unseen God that is in all of us. Same concept, different practice.
(Ganapataye invokes Lord Ganesha saying we are in Salutations) Gam 'sounds like GUM' is the power word for Lord Ganesha and repeating will have a positive effect in the here and NOW. Many Blessings
There are no miracles only spiritual enlightment and after that you will reach the conclusion that god is nothing but Supreme Consiousness ! Use the filter of your brain ! Rituals are having least importance in Hinduism ! (Ref. Bhagadvadgita) It is the shear love towards the almighty is required otherwise performing puja is just like one stone sitting in front of other and chanting !
I am sad to see some of the negative feedback on this video. I would hope though that most would agree that the Deities are most merciful and understand when someone is not adept at rituals and pujas. Lord Krishna said "Arjuna, whoever offers me with love, either a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or even some water... such devout offerings coming from a pure heart, I will surely accept." It is nice to become adept at ritual, but love is what counts.

As a person who has taken a graduate level Religion in India course, studied street level Hinduism, written a ten page paper on Ganesh(mostly about his origins and his elephant head), I'd seriously like to know when it was created that you put the god in a mixing bowl?? Hinduism typically has a ritual where the god is literally put inside the statue, and the statue is worshiped and venerated as if the god is literally in it- because, well, it is. So... Ganesh, in a mixing bowl, lulwut? O_o
@Boombopdapitty Taking a graduate level Religion in India course does not give you the right to take such a snotty tone. Did you ever take a listening class? Harini said she was not a Hindu! Excuse her for using a mixing bowl, which by the way someone with common sense could see is being used to hold the various fluids being offered. In authentic puja, a metal tray is used to collect the liquid. It is the depth of feeling that counts not the utensils used.
i hope that the glsses that are being used for this puja are not your drinking glasses,as they have to be un used and only for ganesh. lastly, worship of ganesh is material not spiritual because ganesh only gives material boons. lastly, you dont say 'happy birthday 'when chanting mantras to ganesh. this is known in learned circles as 'hodge podge' hinduism. the intent is nice ,but hardly spiritual.
my mom makes a big table with fruits and goodies for him and flowers.. she's not hindu.. we don't say happy birthday during the pooja but after words. I never thought it was disrespectful i should tell my mommy
Bless your heart KingChirris, may Ganesha continue to bless your home and life with the offering you gift him. Like you Ganesha has a birthday once a year and we where celebrating, so that is why on this day we sang "Happy Birthday".
Hope this helps you understand our simple offerings in a 'pooja'.saying Thank you to Ganesha for all his Smiles and Blessings
Intent is most important. Space is the room is far more important than the furniture. Reaching out is far more important than the rules. This has been brought out time and again by many stories in Hinduism. Spirit is fullness arising out of emptiness (pure intent).
The separation of the spiritual from the material is a very destructive concept that descendends from calvinist christianity as well as the worst aspects of brahmanist exclusivity. Not all Hindus would agree that the spiritual is not immanent in the material world.
It appears you are still missing the point. It is the whole heartedness and athma that counts. God definetly knows the respect factor from the athma prarthanaa than the utensils.
Sooooooo sweet! Ganesha was my "first love" amoung the Gods and Goddesses and holds a very special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing this with us! I love you Harini!

So why don't you consider yourself Hindu? Do you take the teachings you like and preform puja, but don't want the stigma attached?

Appears your are more focussed on the utensils / appliances and pooja offerings Than the whole heartedness of the prayers and the puja.

of cause we must have good and clean utensils for prayer or this shows that we have no respect for the god
